Yep....and AD is off the WT radar, unless he compromises

As he should be. Read he doesn't want to leave Sydney, that's all well and good, but if you want it bad enough ( to stay) than you would take the pay cut. Souths mistake should not become Wests Tigers mistake.

He wouldn’t be getting a pay cut though would he?
Not for the next 2 years as he has a contract with Souths. The stumbling block in signing for us, as I understand it, is Souths refusing to chip in any money and we won’t consider any deal without them putting in.

This is the problem with back ended deals. Souths now want to move him on but he isn’t worth what they are paying because they short changed him at the start. Now his salary is inflated so they want to move him on. Exactly like when we tried to move Farah.

If I were a player I’d be very hesitant about signing a back ended contract, and if I were a manger, I’d be advising my clients not to sign them.

The NRL could solve the problem by forcing clubs to pay out the average over the contract term. So if it’s a 400k per year deal average for Doueihi, Souths would have to chip in any money above that 400k for the remaining term. It is really money that they owe him from the early years of the contract.

No way that’s a terrible idea , a club SHOULD NOT have to pay a player to play for another club unless by mutual agreement which basically means that the club is desperately trying to move the player on and they are willing to pay for that Privledge . how would you feel I’d WT had to pay for next couple of years, matto to Play for Parra

In this case Matto would need to sign a waver for his release
And don't forget that it was Matto that wanted to leave so he would have to wear the loss or he stays
With Doueihi he is being told he can look elsewhere
If he finds a club (Tigers) that wish to sign him we make our offer $350,000 or less by the look of it
If south's don't want to make up the difference then Doueihi can stay at South's
That will put pressure on their cap
They can't make an offer to Addo-carr

Madge is smart
We had $1,300,000 to sign 3 players
$500,000 for BJ
$300,000 max for Doueihi a guess
That leaves $500,000 for Addo-carr
Now if Doueihi is on $500,000 at South's this season and we pay full freight then south's could out bid us for Addo-car
But if we force souths hand to contribute $200,000 of his contract then we can outbid Souths for Addo-carr

Souths would have Approx $300,000
Tigers would have Approx $500,000
Simple maths
$500,000 would be much more beneficial for Addo-carrs family and would give the Tigers the upper hand

In steps Crow and Packer
Dam we thought we had him

What happens if Eels decide to release Stef from his 2020 contract?
Let’s face it, for the last 10 years we suck at cap management, paying big for under performers and lowballing our good young talent, making them too easily moved on.
I’ve got a good feeling we’re now turning things around. We just need 2 backs with speed and try scoring power, and Stef.

If these whispers about BJ are true
He definitely possesses Try scoring ability decent acceleration for a big lad but top speed not so much

What he does provide is both an x factor and good hit ups to take a bit of heat off the forwards....top speed or not he changes the way other teams see our backs....with him and Nof we can get two good hit ups off kicks ....

How about some finishing ie top fast speed over long distances? That is what we need from our backs, not backs doing work that belongs to the forwards

So you'd rather not have him? As it stands we are a good chance of getting him, and as a player who adds this you would be unhappy with his signing?

JL has to come in a package with JAC.

I have a feeling we will be hearing from AD and his management some time very soon. We are not coming across as desperate as we were for LM and we learnt a big lesson with how the media can portray us. I like how Madge is playing this, we’ve thrown him an offer and if he wants it or if souths pitch in then let’s table it up. AD definitely has talent, but the world won’t come to an end if we miss out on him. He needs us more than we need him atm.

This is the type of realistic assessment of our club that I like. We are the ones in the box seat. We have great opportunities available for quality players who are prepared to accept hard work and a fair wage. If you want to be overpaid or you don't want to work hard than go to another club.

Exactly. Hmmm should I join a premiership contender for more money and less work or should I go to the Tigers. Not really a hard choice is it.

However it definitely does not apply in Doehi's case (if has ambition)..

I don't see how Souths is a contender or the more attractive offer unless your dad played thier or your manager is being courted by them.
Wayne IMO is going to do it tough with the forward pack he has and if they get any injuries hmm

With respect, perhaps our need is not necessarily increased speed out wide as it is “go forward.”
Nothing saps energy like having your line continually bent and your forwards back peddling. Sheens got the 2005 champs going forward by rotating the dummy half roll.

^^^this ^^^ it’s the very reason forwards walk back on side . It’s absolutely brutal tackling 110kg units , who can run 4.5 second 40s . It’s not 92kg Wayne Pearce into “massive” 100 kg Siro anymore . It’s Payne Haas into Lodge into Fifita . And you’re expected not to miss any tackles , and wrestle them to their back , and hold them Down .like I said , tiring stuff

Sure the game has changed and the players are bigger, but the Sheens methodology of thinking outside the square can be even more effective today because of the more rigid structure and set plays making the game more predictable.

By all reports he wants to come here. Souths signed him on a contract some perceive to be too high (not his fault) and we don’t want to pay it. None of this is AD’s fault.

Personally I think he’s worth it. We’re devoid of backline talent with a heap of cash. We’ll also have a lot more players coming off contract that will free up even more cash for 21 and 22. We’re more chance of making the finals with AD at 1 and that will improve our desirability for other players looking to join. He’s worth 5% of the salary cap imo. His best years are ahead of him.

Mmm? So we are looking for players who don’t want to be paid highly and want to work harder than most players.
That should attract a better than average response. Should we get in extra people to man the phones?

Some stats from last season. I’ve given the averages over all games played rather than total amounts because the NRL included stats for finals games (weird) which have inflated the top 8 teams figures.

Included is the required stat for a top 4 ranking in each metric. And I’m surprised how little improvement is needed to achieve this. We’re really not far off. 1 OR 2 CLASSY SIGNINGS WITH FINISHING ABILITY COULD MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!...

The glaringly obvious outlier is the conversion %. Absolute tragedy was the goal kicking last year. Didn’t realise it was this bad until seeing the stats. If we converted just 1 more kick per game on average it would have put us in the top 4 for points scored.

Looking at this it seems the Tigers 9th place finish is pretty accurate if you go off stats alone.

The club has been almost negligent in the way they have undervalued goal kicking for a few years now. Hopefully Momo is able to hold down a spot in the team and keep improving his goal kicking with the help on Chook Halligan. Otherwise I’m not sure the outlook on goal kicking is any better this season.

So 72hrs with the public holiday

Makes a change from the 48hr line

Wait...wasn’t there done deals this week

I'd like to mute the words "Done Deal" somehow

You can kill me if I'm wrong but as of this afternoon, from training, the predicted starting backline is 1.Mbye/ M johns, 2 Nofo/Bradley, 3 Momo, 4 BJ, 5 Jennings, 6 JR, 7 Brooks.
Talau training at 4 but will start in CC. JL for certain expected next week. Talau advised not NRL until at least round 6 as some concerns. Reece Hoffman more forward than Talau. Not sure what concerns re Talau. Douhei not even a consideration but JL expected next week. If not JL, Jennings at centre. Walters first choice hooker, Mbye and JR have trained there but as insurance as Walters is preferred starter.
This is the opinion of a trainer, as inside as you can get but only his observations.
Confidence in JL signing.

I’m very confused. Who is M Johns? Refuse to believe JR will get the 6 over Benji.

I'm just relaying my discussion with a trainer this afternoon. Apparently, at this moment, that's the preferred line up. Don't know M Johns but apparently a unit. Benji feeling the heat. No one believes AD will be there but apparently BJ is a done deal.

I think he saw you coming... Wound you up ???
