Some very sad news today with young emerging Cronulla Sharks forward Fine Kula being diagnosed with Brain Cancer.

20 year old Kula will immediately retire from the game to focus on his treatment. We wish all the best for Fine and his family

Sounds like this play swap is just about done according to Pascoe. If Momirovski isn’t at the members day tomorrow it’s 100% happening I think.

Should be finalised next week.

Apparently both clubs needed to release the players from their contracts for it to work because there's no loan mechanism in the NRL.

No that's not want the Storm and Wests Tigers want to do..both players would remain contracted to their respective Clubs and come under their respective Caps..

They want the NRL to rule it allowable...hence why they are dragging the chain as it would be the 1st time it's happened in the NRL despite it working quiet well in other codes and competitions around the Glode..

In other codes, as you likely know, the loaned out player often is not allowed to play against the club he is contracted to. I really can't see the NRL allowing that, but it will create some issues.

Grand final...loaned out player for team A drops the ball cold on his goal line, team B (who pay his salary) score and win...

Unlikely, yes. But governing bodies need to prepare for all scenarios. The NBA and NFL do not have loans...the EPL does, and normally prevent players playing their contracted club.

Will be interesting to see how the NRL handle it if it becomes more common.

I heard the same as you but @Geo probably knows better than me. But in saying that i cant see how if the NRL dont allow it or if they are dragging the chain unnecessarily how they couldnt do that, release both and just resign them for the following years. It's not like us as a club to be innovators maybe things are changing.

Only way the NRL will allow this to happen would be to say - you will carry the value of the said player as part of your cap allowance, even tho the player is officially contracted elsewhere (And paid elsewhere).

E.g. Momo is on 300k, therefore Melbourne would carry this amount on their salary cap.

Grants on 150k, which is paid by the storm but counts towards our cap. Melbourne benefit by getting a player worth more than the player they are loaning to us, we get a player in a position we need.

I guess not but it doesnt really matter what its called, it could be an agreement outcome is still the same.
