Tigers in talks for Cooper .. paper this morning! Do not see the sense in this other than keeping the club in the papers!

Horrible news to wake up too. When i saw the headline i was really hoping it wasn't us. But alas......no such luck

Wouldn’t take the report too seriously. Quade Cooper wouldn’t even fit into our starting team, and he wouldn’t go that good at league.

Only reason I could think of is to just have him at training and around the boys to help them mentally but there’s a very slim chance we sign him in my opinion. We are always the first linked to player signings lately because we have the salary cap.

What is the biggest weakness that the team has ? A kicker so with that Cooper is a good kicker ..not that out of left field to punt Nuffie and bring Cooper in for his goal kicking capabilities ! Or possible at fullback , need a kicker to do anything in the comp.Brings heaps of positive media coverage for the club on a short term loan .

All depends what we sign him for. If it's on a minimum wage and he there for depth, where's the issue? Given the uncertainly in the season, we're not going to go large on that last top 30 spot.

I realise it probably doesn’t hold any interest to most but Latrell Mitchell? Apparently Souths have an option to increase his pay from $600k to $800k for 2021. Will he be signed on for another season? If so, will he get a pay increase or decrease? We will know by the 30th April deadline.

Sounds like he wants to play not earn minimum wage and do nothing. Wouldn’t be a bad option for depth and to have at training but don’t see that happening.

**Wests Tigers move to sign Quade Cooper, launch SBW inquiry**

*Quade Cooper’s potential NRL move is gaining momentum after a premiership-winning coach reached out to the former Wallabies star’s manager about his availability.*

Quade Cooper could be a shock signing for Wests Tigers as NRL teams begin to plot the rest of their COVID-19 interrupted season.

Tigers coach Michael Maguire called Cooper’s manager Khoder Nasser on Thursday to ask about his availability and was buoyed by the response.

Cooper is currently signed with Japanese rugby team Kintetsu but revealed earlier this week it would be the chance to fulfil a dream if he could secure a short term contract in the NRL.

It is believed Kintetsu is not against the idea and, with Cooper stranded in Brisbane because of the lockdown, it would allow him to maintain match fitness while the Japanese competition is suspended.

Maguire also got the latest on Sonny Bill Williams’ availability for the Kiwis after his recent knee operation.

Maguire is also New Zealand’s national coach.

It is not going to cost us anything so theres not alot to lose, but in terms of it working, its just going to be hard because:

- There is no reserve grade for him to play, so his first rugby league game would have to be in the NRL
- he is only staying for 6 months cause then hes moving, so its not like there is alot of time to develop him.
- There are some big differences in the sport.

As a natural athlete, hes better than our entire backline, so theres something to work with, but we don't have a heap of time to do it as its a short contract. I feel ESL players or younger rugby players (like koriobete etc, who we may be able to convince to sign) would be better options.

You’re right. He’s a good kicker. Could be worth at least 6 points a game but how many linebrakes does he let go by?

Gee, I hope the Q. Cooper rumours dont come about. Cant see him adding value, but I still trust Maguire if he sees value. Maybe Reynolds is thinking of moving on or Benji is thinking about not playing again.

The signing is for this year only to fill spot #30. Its not that expense of any of our current players or future signings. I think thats the logic behind it.

Honestly I think it’s just Madge looking into it. He might not even be super keen on signing either of them but having a chat to their managers doesn’t hurt anyone.

Personally would rather fill that top 30 spot with a young guy who could actually have a future at the club. Cooper has never played NRL before and with no reserve grade would struggle. SBW looked average playing for Toronto.

No to cooper.
A hard hitting defensive backrower would be my pick. Dont know what is out there though

Ben Teo anyone??

I had to actually build myself up to even type the name...
