Ye ole Game manager blaaaaaaaaaaah cliche..

How about we just recruit blokes who run harder and tackle harder than the opposition for 80mins week in week out..

I don't care who they are..

All the best teams win because they have good game managers though. We struggle to gain momentum after we have lost it and we struggle to put teams away. Both goes down to - guess what - game management.

Rubbish

Tell that to Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, Mitchell Moses, Josh Hodgson, Nathan Cleary etc etc. all these good teams have guys that kick deep into corners, turn the opposition around, find repeat sets, make the right passes and the right kicks at critical times. That’s game management and that’s something we lack

Of course it’s backed up by those guys who run Hard and tackle hard but you need both, you need your halves taking control of a game.

You only have to look at the recent Storm/Rorters game..it was a mistake-a-thon for most of the game..no one from either team managed that game..what it did have is 2 teams with strike power, speed and desire to turn up for your mate..

Had it been game managed by either team it would never gone to Golden point..

The top teams control a game by the whole TEAM managing the game..not 1 or 2 individuals..

Now look at Manly where I'm told by Coops and the crew that DCE is one of the best 'game managers' in the business who haven't fired a shot since Turbo and Walker went down and just had 30 put on them by the Dragons..

It's cool tho.. Game Management terminology is cute for the younger generation

It’s cute for the younger generation and also all
The elite coaches and players that win premierships but what do I know ??‍♂️ Just gotta run hard like it’d 1970 ?

Your point is right, the whole team needs to hold the ball and do their job and that will take you a long way to winning games. At the same time, guys like smith, Cronk can turn momentum of games by putting in perfect kicks and executing plays right, or they work off the back of their forward doing their job and force repeat sets etc. that’s game management and whether you like
It or not, it’s incredibly important.

There’s been storm games where Cameron Smith pretty much lead their team around all on his own and did all the big plays on his own as well, one example doesn’t mean anything.

Yep, swap Pearce for Cronk and the chooks win 2 titles .

Can Tedesco come with a touch of Cronk..

Phenomenal right!
I don’t know if it is worth biting really.
And to think Sezer would do a better job as a ‘game manager’ is laughable.

What our team desperately needs is support for our half. Be it Brooks, be it Walters. We need a firecracker 5/8 that has the ability to get on the edge of his inside defenders push the line every time, neat little grubber in etc.
Basically Benji 10years ago.
To think Brooks is capable of that on his own alongside a game manager is laughable.
Anyway forwards win games. And ours drop the ball whenever we have good field possession.

Sezer was a good enough game manager to help his team to a grand final last year, he was very good. Brooks in my eyes would be a great 5/8

Disagree. He basically plays as a 5/8 at the moment and is being hammered hard for it.
In my opinion, coaches preferring Left Side, Right Side has killed Brooks.
He has no skill of a 5/8. He has all the skill of a traditional halfback.
The only think letting him down is his involvement.
Get a strike 5/8 and get Brooks (or Madden) in the middle of the field playing a traditional HB role.

He doesn’t really play as a 5/8 because he’s got all the pressure of leading the team around and he can’t handle it. Put a game managing half next to him and just let him do what he does best, run the footy, short passing and short kicking. All a matter of opinion though ??

Ok, as I said I disagree. The tigers play Left Side, Right Side and have ever since he an Mitchell Moses were the halves.
If you want to see him shine as a halfback. Go back to the games where we have a forward playing in the 5/8 position, in those games he is forced to do the traditional halfback role.
‘Eg when Marshall played hooker and Matterson played 5/8 last year.’ Even in our final game last year he was the best on the ground.

Oh and this quote from Cartwright and Sezer upon resigning with the Titans...

Titans coach John Cartwright is still yet to publicly declare where Sezer will play this year.

He has the talent and personality to shift to halfback but says he is a natural five-eighth.

"I've been a five-eighth all my life. These days it's pretty much the same job," he said. "Halfbacks have more control over the team but five-eighth opens you up a bit more to run and that's something I'm a bit more comfortable with."

Been saying this for a while...brooks reminds me a lot of Cronk...his passing is very limited for me short ball or play out the back....he lacks all the skills of a 5/8 play him how the roosters used Cronk and get a good 6 with the skills of a keary or Maloney and you get the best out of him imo...this left/side right garbage has also ruined Milford for me he was a terrific second receiver now he’s horrible...first receiver and second receiver will always be my choice in halves game plan instead of that garbage know as left and right

He was very average when he was here and doesn't appear to have improved. Would be a big step back on what we already have.

Plus he has had more HIA's than our entire team combined

Sue
Really
I don't want to go back to the good old days of a crap team
What other old crap players from our club can we bring back
Semanungafoohorn next
Hell even woods is useless we could get him

Don't aim so low with your suggested signings as it is depressing to read
I would hate to bring back a player that was bog average with us
If we can't sign better players to improve our roster then don't sign them
Otherwise we are a continual bottom 8 side

Starting 13 finals experienced players at a minimum would be a start
Or
1st class and top rated juniors which apparently we are doing
No more bottom shelf players

I actually wouldn’t mind Woods back at all.... lol

Maybe it’s just me but I’d take Sue over Clarke or Seyfarth any day of the week.

X2 - however they shouldn’t be the benchmark on how we scale future signings

Just read 5 pages trying to catch up on any news, not one rumour or signings, 5 pages basically debating what half we need. Sure we need a half, but a goal kicker and a few backs who can run would also help

Can't imagine Maguire copping Sue's lack of work around the ruck for more than one game.

TBH Woods played at his best when he was with the WT, he was one of the first picked for NSW SOO.

His best football by far was with us,certainly he did the wrong thing by the club but at a reasonable price he would slot into our forward roster and provide experience

He’s been woeful for the sharks the last few weeks. Shadow of his former self

$100K only as penance for what he did.

Elliot and CHN would be starters in our side,Sue as a backup like someone said is better value then Clark, and Meaney is a speedy fullback being played on the wing

Sue is a walking concussion. He has had as many head knocks as ET, if not more.

The thread is called suggestions and rumours, so don't be surprised if people are merely making suggestions about who they'd like to see signed.

Is Brad Abbey still on the books?

I noticed he was still in rehab in a photo the club posted. He’s not a development player or top 30 so at the moment couldn’t play first grade for us anyway
