Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

True. Tamou and Fox is probably the best possible result we could hope for until we release Reynolds Mbye and Packer. Not the best result, but the best result under restraints we have.

Once we release those guys, then get a damaging fast forward we badly need. Martin Tapau was killing it last night. Its those kinda players we miss!

It appears we have the funds.
None of our supposed over paid players are moving on.
In effect we are signing ‘if’ Tamou to replace Eiso or Taylor, whom of which most people would expect not to be retained.
We have a confirmed extra roster spot now that Benji is no longer being retained.
For mine it all makes sense.
People are saying go out and buy another good young prop. It’s like we have forgotten that we signed Stefano? We all witnessed his efforts for Parra this year. And I believe Stefano will be great but to expect Him and Aloiai to start is like going down the Broncos path with Haas or alternative Options of Packer, Musgrove or Mikalee paired with Aloiai gives the opposition similar shapes to defend against.
Signing Tamou would be our transition to a more ready Stefano.
In addition, Packer, with some additional leadership may do well off the bench as a impact prop.

JAC would be awesome. I can very much see Madge giving him every chance of Fullback and moving Mbye to left edge 5/8 to start the year and having Brooks move over to the right side which despite having to learn defending on the right, Brooks in the last few games has been spending a lot more time there.
Signing these two. Gives us depth and options.
Good move if we can balance it within the cap.

Pascoe said just over a million, 3-5 players to sign for next year.

Tamou, the fox have offers - I'd guess at they would take up a mill (or just over) between them next year.

So a close to min wage players are probably filling in the last 1-3 spots.

When Reynolds, Mbye and Packer go we have significantly more $$$ to sign a couple of guns

See the way I see it.
Packer if he stays, gives Mikalee an extra year to become that real impact prop. Either that or he becomes depth for us if Mikalee is preferred.
A team needs options and ideally you need adequate back ups with quality depth.
It would be great to sign both JAC and Stains but I can’t see that happening unless either of the three move on.
Backrow is still a weekness for us and if we are down to a min wage option I’d take a look at Takairangi for cover.

Are people forgetting that we lack funds and cannot go out and by another game changing forward until we lose Reynolds & Packer... I think its smart if we were to pick up Tamou on say a 2 year deal as he would full in 1 of our front row places and not cost an arm or leg..
Its called a salary cap and I would rather spend a few hundred thousand on Tamou then go without until our salary cap is fixed. We have a heap of Young players that need leadership and he fits that bill.
Remember he is not going to be a superstar and make 200+ m a game so take that out of your minds. (he will do better than Packer)

Tamou is 31, he will be 32 next year. There is a reason he is being let go. Youth and speed, youth and speed.

He's been let go because of the talent Penrith have coming through the younger forwards are all progressing well so its time to move on its called salary cap management and when you have the talent available that Penriff have its vital important to a clubs continued success and a good front rower at 32 years if age is like a fine wine it gets better with age we have some good young forwards BUT we do not have a LEADERSHIP

Then let’s steal some of their Juniors. We don’t need plodder leadership, we have plenty of that. I’ve been hearing the same old rhetoric for nearly a decade and where had it got us? Consistently 9th. How about we change tack and do something different like I don’t know, go for youth and speed instead.

Tamou, JAC and Staines would really add something next year. Not a bad outcome if possible, given the salary cap predicament.

When you look at the top 5 sides they all have a mixture of youth ,30 gamers and 50 gamers as well as 100 game players and older hard heads a team built on youth will always find it difficult prime example BRONCOS at the beginning of the year on paper looked world beaters to many young and big egos no leadership image that side with a Petro or Wally in it.

I agree, but we need enforcers nor workhorses/metereaters!

I agree, Tamou is not an impact prop, he lopes Into the the defence. To his credit he does stand and look to offload but I’d prefer someone who can charge into the opposition and get us on a roll.
Ivan built Dad’s Army here, let’s not hang around while he puts out the garbage at the Panthers.
Tamou is looking to top up his pension in his twilight years, Look at Manly’s front towers last night, they were charging into us and forcing us backwards with multi metre gains. It was only when they went to the bench together that were were able to get some go forward.
Don’t listen to Mark Geyer’s recommendations - he’s an idiot.

Tapau and AFB were awesome but the cold reality is we are not going to get anyone like that for next year. No way around that fact.
Taamou is the next best realistic option we have. For 2 years he would be a bloody good pick-up.
He has a good track record with injury recently, mobility is his biggest asset and he is a quality leader (stand up guy who just rolls his sleeves up, not a useless goose like Anasta etc).
Would be pretty stoked to get him on board for 1-2 years, then our own young leaders will be primed to take the reins.

No doubt we need experience - look at what Asotasi did for the myxos to provide leadership, experience and consistency.
Just need to pick the right one.............. which we don't have a great track record of doing.

Agree with this mikey, any suggestions on who that player might be? I personally think JWH would be the ideal one, but he is clearly not leaving the Roosters.

No idea tbh. JWH would be great but going nowhere as you said.
If they are going for Tamou I just hope they do due diligence on fitness/ any injury concerns. He may not be JWH but he should provide leadership and improve culture.

Tamou>>>>>>>>Woods.
Woods barely gets a gig in an average team at Sharps......Tamou is getting picked to play in a team dominating the comp.
If Woods came to us for minimum wage $120k then maybe he'd be worth a look. That's about it though.
Let's not forget how he dumped on WT when he left, those things shouldn't be forgotten easily IMO.

Some of our forwards need to look at their tackling technique. Manly rolled through our props. Too much arm grabbing.

Tbh we badly need metre eaters. Also, Tamou is not an enforcer in any way. Never has been.

So which enforcer are we a realistic chance of getting for next season?

Tamou and JAC will give us at least an extra win next season, think of it that way =p It will be difficult for Tigers to fit in Tamou and JAC in our cap, if they do somehow, it will be a great achievement. So while Tamou doesn't excite me, I would be thrilled with this outcome.

I believe we have just over a mill for 5 players. Tamou and JAC will be a mill eaaasily. So they are going to have to do some hard work in club management just to get this.

Lets not extend our dreams to anything too crazy for this off season =p
