Simpkin

Liddle is gassed by the 30min mark and off his feet by 50 and becomes a liability. I’d have Simpkin come in at the 30 and play the last 10 before half time and following 20. Then Liddle back on for the final 20.

As Simpkins stamina picks up he could potentially shift to lock for some extra minutes.

I really like the idea of playing 2 hookers late in the game, someone who replicates the Dene Halatau role from 2005. I really think that could be useful under the new rules.

Worked well last year with Liddle and Grant.

How good was Halatau though ???

I think Liddle needs to improve his fitness before we could successfully do this.
As mentioned, he looks exhausted at 30 and 50 minutes in.
Guys getting through a lot of work, so expected.

Again, this raising more questions with Brooks To starting 9 who appears to have great fitness and Simpkin being the bench hooker. Either way, we've needed this all year (Jake on the bench) and it's no surprise it worked out in our favour. Just like how we were all screaming for Kelma Tuilagi to get a crack and now he has and shown he's a star.

Wests Tigers Forum brainstrust.
Always in the know! ?

What really frustrates me about Liddle is lack of urgency getting into dummy half and his poor defence when he gasses. He’s not an 80min hooker.

I thought Simpkin provided spark off the bench and straightened our attack when he was on.

It makes sense to keep both in the team at this stage.

It's been obvious all season Liddle can't handle 80 minutes. Simpkin can't either. I'd keep them going exactly as they have been. I like SImpkin but he has mistakes in his game. He needs limited minutes when the opposition is tiring and he is fresh.

We really need the 9 position sorted. It's up their along with our centres as our worst position.

At least they are both good defenders, so they can be utilised in the back row if required, which allows us a utility back. Tbh, I'm liking MCK for that role at this time?

I think MCK has been great. He is playing tough, making tackles and he is a threat with the ball. I can't believe we are getting rid of him.

In stating that he is a back up player. I reckon he is too slow for the centres and too small for the backrow. As a depth player though he is awesome. He'd also be good off the bench.

Can't believe it's taken until the very end of the season for Madge to try him again, he did very well last night.

I understand the decision though. He is a hog who makes some dud plays. He went to pieces defensively at times. He can't handle 80 minutes.

A lot of upside but some of these guys need time and that includes moving into and out of first grade.

Yep, I didn't realise he had been cut? Players who can cover both backs and forwards are rare?

The Liddle & Simpkin one two punch would have provided great value to us in a number of games this year for all the reasons mentioned in the thread thus far.
Simpkin gave us some real thrust through the middle with his running out of dummy half, he should have been on 10 mins earlier when Lids started struggling to get back onside.
Hopefully this formula continues this season as it clearly added value to the team but also because Simpkin isn’t going to develop playing rugby league live in the hotel room, he needs game time.

Was pretty obvious he needed to be coming off the bench for a long time now. He needs the development, reserve grade does nothing for him anymore and Liddle can't handle 80. The use of Mbye at hooker over him is just awful decision making from Madge - especially having cini come into fullback late in a game.

I agree with most that Simpkin should have been on the bench from a lot earlier in the season getting 20-30 mins a game..after the Souff's game it appears they thought it best for him to play long minutes in KOE Cup as he had not played much footy last year would have slowed his progress..

He's not ready to start but certainly lifted the tempo last night.. holds his spot for the rest of the year..

Should have been done yesterday and every game unless there is an early game ending injury that limits the interchange. Other teams use the change effectively, but not us.

Every team has been targeting Liddle in the middle and did again yesterday because they know how Maguire uses his bench. Very poorly and same again yesterday evening.

Similarly with Blore earlier. WT had a banged up Lucy struggling through eighty and Shawn wasted on the bench.

Jake probably needs to come on earlier than the last 20

I wish liddle would run more.

Jake's passing looked good, made a rew good runs, wish he helpt with controlling the game more at the end.

I’d actually like Simpkin to come on at the 30 minute mark and then start the 2nd half with Liddle coming back on with 20 to go.

If Roberts is up to it could use Chee kam as second row cover but agree not much point putting him on the last 20 needs more game time

Simpkin is what 19/20 .He got smashed in the early part of the season when he was in the top grade even after short stints. He wasn't ready. He is being eased into the FG as he should be.

Maybe even end of the first half gotta try something different so we stop getting scored against just before half time

If we could fix our awful first half completion rate it would help reduce the number of tackles Liddle has to do.

Simpkin, is playing well, but it's worth remembering, that he came on in the last 20, after most players are running low on energy? While Liddle has taken the brunt of the game full on, when everyone is fresh.
