Jake probably needs to come on earlier than the last 20

I wish liddle would run more.

Jake's passing looked good, made a rew good runs, wish he helpt with controlling the game more at the end.

I’d actually like Simpkin to come on at the 30 minute mark and then start the 2nd half with Liddle coming back on with 20 to go.

Issue with that is you are using 2 valuable interchanges on hookers. I think Madge did it right last night. Liddle did more darts and went hard which we want to see. Simpkin ran well and threw his body into defense but his ball work has alot of improvement needed.

Liddle is gassed by the 30min mark and off his feet by 50 and becomes a liability. I’d have Simpkin come in at the 30 and play the last 10 before half time and following 20. Then Liddle back on for the final 20.

As Simpkins stamina picks up he could potentially shift to lock for some extra minutes.

I really like the idea of playing 2 hookers late in the game, someone who replicates the Dene Halatau role from 2005. I really think that could be useful under the new rules.

It seems as though most of the top sides have adopted having extra playmakers on the field even if they are playing out of position. Its more noticeable in the last quarter of the game. Teams are testing the best way to use the new rules. Bench selection and management has really gone to a new level.

But I feel the team as a whole would be better for having hookers that a fresh when needed. Well worth the cost of 2 interchanges per game.

Disagree - better having some one on the bench like Watson that can play 9 or in the backline ,, the bench spot is wasted with a specialist 9 .

Good point. Agree it would be better value to use one spot that way and maybe that will be Hastings next season. He is playing various positions currently.
I suppose the Storm , with Smith and Grant are a good example of 2 hookers working well however.

I’m not sure if playmakers are out of position, I think their position is just playmaker, wherever they are. Remember when Liddle came on late last year and Grant moved to “playmaker”, it was probably the best football we played all year. Numbers on backs don’t really mean that much any more, second rowers are really inside centres and hardly ever even pack into the second row.

We weren’t dominating and putting the result beyond the Cowboys reach early in the second but the tempo changed when Simpkins came on. He made a difference that upped our tempo for the win.

Agree. I think he got on too late. I think that you could find a period 15-20 into the 2nd half where both could be on

Needs to work on his left-right passing, quite a few wayward ones. I think he has a great hooker's physique, all glutes and legs.

Arguably you bring him on earlier if he's ready for it, give Liddle a spell much earlier. Also I wonder if Simpkin has any capacity to play as a small forward should the need arise (injury / bench issues), something Raiders and Storm have had success with in 2021.

Worked well last year with Liddle and Grant.

How good was Halatau though ???

I think Liddle needs to improve his fitness before we could successfully do this.
As mentioned, he looks exhausted at 30 and 50 minutes in.
Guys getting through a lot of work, so expected.

Again, this raising more questions with Brooks To starting 9 who appears to have great fitness and Simpkin being the bench hooker. Either way, we've needed this all year (Jake on the bench) and it's no surprise it worked out in our favour. Just like how we were all screaming for Kelma Tuilagi to get a crack and now he has and shown he's a star.

Wests Tigers Forum brainstrust.
Always in the know! ?

think Brooks to 9 and simpkin of the bench could be just what we need.
Sell off Liddle

Remember thisbguy is young. Plenty of upside.

And, how old is Liddle?? He's not exactly past his prime. He is still the better option IMO.

I think that ledger is squaring up quite quickly.

There's 5 years between them, believe it or not.

Thought young Simpkin had a great stint on the field, very solid and passing game was much better, with Liddle suspended needs a big game next week.
