Simpkin & Liddle both have huge upside to them

Simpkin is just trying to get experience and games under his belt. He missed last year of development due to COVID and this year also hasn’t helped him. He just needs game time. He is 19. Most hookers don’t often get an nrl run until their early 20s in the NRL due to body impact/development. I think it’s exciting seeing this kid as he looks very hungry in a Grant play style but without a few years of development Grant had. He needs to finish the year in NRL, have a big off season and get cracking next year. I can see why we signed him at a young age already.

Liddle has always had something positive about his play its just been a question as to can his body hold up & how long can be play / can he last a full game. This is his 1st full season & his upside is very positive. He is clearly an nrl hooker. His body is finally holding up so he can now focus on other things. If he can finish the season and head into the pre season fine he will only be better next year.

Liddle is gassed by the 30min mark and off his feet by 50 and becomes a liability. I’d have Simpkin come in at the 30 and play the last 10 before half time and following 20. Then Liddle back on for the final 20.

As Simpkins stamina picks up he could potentially shift to lock for some extra minutes.

100% agree exactly! What I have been saying for ages about Madge’s poor interchange usage. He would get the best out of both players and the team. He just refuses to understand his own players capabilities and the fact that the opposition knows that liddle is a weapon and kerp running there big guys at him to tire him out!
That and his usage of the bench when we are getting pumped early eg Melbourne game yet refusing to make early changes to try and stop the onslaught.

Fully agree with that but the issue with Simpkin is if he doesn’t play limited minutes at least he misses another year of development. Damned if you / if you don’t.

Well Simpkin has a big opportunity to impress against the Sharks with Liddle being suspended. They are a big park and Brailey has speed around the ruck. Will be a good test for the kid.

Unfortunately Simpkin struggled after just one good game. Was going backwards at a rate of knots and needed to be rested from the NRL. I agree with @willow play Simpkin off the bench. Let Mbye start at 9. I really don’t think there is a better option. Starting Simpkin will only repeat the previous attempt, especially as KOE is canned and he’s had only 10mins game time.

I dont think Madges job is on the line.....he is teaching young guys the NRL system and hasnt got much in the depth dept....
He knows his squad and players better than us....

How have you worked that out?
TBH, I wouldn't be surprised if they start thinking about extending him again, there is not a lot of coaching talent out there and a few coaches job are on the line before Madge?
