Agree. I think even that is overs. For the top 30, the minimum wage is $130k, with the average at $371k. To balance out a single Luai, you need 3-4 players on minimum.

Sione is a solid player, but i'd put him more at 250-300k.

I am sure Tartak will be constantly reminding Richo the impact of uncertainty has had on Sione, his loyalty to hold off for a contract & the importance of keeping the brothers together. So yes a little bit more money will probably be requested.

Am hoping 2 of Bateman, Naden & Sullivan will be gone by or in January. 3 would be Xmas! But can't see us subsidising all of them for 50%. Likely scenario is that Bud is still with us.

I don’t think lack of roster spots has anything tj do with it, it’s quite clear he’s asking for more money than he is worth.
There is no way possibly Bateman, Naden or Sullivan will be with Wests Tigers as of round 1 2025, so roster spots are not a problem,

Sione was the best of the brothers, and as @Bellend mentioned needs a little sprint training just to notch up his lateral defence.

But seems to have the nous to be in the right areas coupled with controlled aggression and toughness so hope he stays.

Sprinting and lateral movement are 2 completely different species

$400 is dreaming. Like his improvement since his bros have been here but he did SFA before playing reserve for reserves. How about he puts in more than just a few months of decent work before he starts asking for potential money.
$300 max, and that’s a bonus.

The cut off point was 1 November. That's when the payment cycle starts for your 2025 roster. You cannot have over 30 players now. Hence the article that explains we need a roster spot.

Sullivan possibly to Souths if they lose Illias to the Dragons.
Naden unlikely to get another contract in the NRL.
If you are him do you hang around at Wests Tigers knowing you will not play NRL no matter how well you play, or do you bite the bullet and sign for a UK SuperLeague club to try and prolong your professional career before it’s too late ?
Bateman unwanted by Warrington and no NRL club willing to sign him unless his price tag drops to around 300k, that says it all.

I agree we are in danger of losing him and I don’t think it would sit too well with his brothers if we do.
As you say, young up and coming forwards with his potential do not grow on trees and we need him to compete with the likes of Twal, Seyfarth, Johanssen etc for positions in our NRL 17.
Lack of genuine competition leads to complacency.
The issue is it’s a balancing act to know what is a fair & reasonable contract value for a players of his ability and potential,

Reserve grader until this year, much like Reuben Porter, despite being younger.

Like to think he shows loyalty and patience...
We'll get a deal done when we can.

Im struggling to fit him into our best 17 at present. I really like what he's shown though and hope we keep him. Good player.
