Sitakeli Akoula Re-signs

@OutbackJack said:
Didn't Blocker say earlier that there would be a MAJOR announcement at Concord tonight that (from memory) he said would be "almost bigger than Rugby League itself". That is how I vaguely remember it. I saw it on this forum but cannot now find where it was mentioned. Signing an U20s player does not quite fit that situation, but let's hope it is good news for a change. Signing Potter would do me.

Mayer can out on twitter that day and denied it. Said Blocker was having a gee up and has since spoken to him about it. I presume "speaking to him" meant telling him to pull his head in because there was enough crap going on without him stirring the pot too

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce the re-signing of young forward Sitaleki Akauola for another two seasons.

Akauola made his NRL debut in Round 5 of 2013 against the Melbourne Storm, his only top grade game that season, before earning another six NRL appearances so far in 2014.

The 22-year-old can cover a range of positions from back-row to the outside backs and will join the Wests Tigers top 25 squad next year.

The Manurewa junior expressed his delight with the new contact that will see him remain at the Club until the end of 2016.

“I’m really happy with my new deal,” Akauola said. “It has always been a dream of mine to play in the NRL and it’s great to have that opportunity with the Wests Tigers.”

“It’s really pleasing to stay for another two years and my goal is to cement a position in the NRL team through hard-work and consistent performances.”

Akauola was part of the Wests Tigers 2012 Under 20s premiership-winning side alongside current NRL players such as David Nofoaluma, Sauaso Sue and Joel Luani.

“I have a lot of great memories from 2012,” Akauola said. “There are a lot of players from that side still at the Club and hopefully we can win another premiership together in the future.”

“We are a tight group at the Wests Tigers, my teammates are like brothers to me.”

Head Coach Mick Potter said he is pleased that the Club has secured yet another promising young player on a new deal.

“Sitaleki has made a steady progression over the last couple of years,” Potter said. “I’m happy with where he is at now and I’m looking forward to him pushing forward in the future.”

“He offers great versatility to the squad and is a player with a lot of potential.”

Fantastic news , this guy is so Raw , we are heading into an unbelievable squad the next 2 to 3 years has to be our turn for Glory , the Nucleus is there . EXCITING TIMES AHEAD !!!!!!!

Probably the best thing about Akoula is, at present he is only playing to about 60% of his potential. He is a real athlete, but needs to do plenty work especially in defense. A big off season and who knows what he could do.

IMO big Ava is the one we really need to sign, makes good yards and his engine is getting bigger

Good Re-Signing IMO he has a lot of potential and could be in our First Grade team week in week out in a Fulton type role.

Happy with this re-signing as Akauola really does have some top potential if he can just take his game to the next level in terms of consistency. Hopefully training fulltime with the squad next year will help and he's certainly handy off the bench as an impact player. When he's on song he as one of the best offloads in the game IMO.

Great re signing. Can make some great m in attack and can hit in defense though that is sometimes a bit hit and miss. Think he regrets signing after the week the clubs bad??

Good positive news. This young bloke while still raw has showed some great signs and is pretty different to most of our back-rowers.

For a young guy who doesn't look all that big, he bends the defensive line a fair bit. Has an off-load too.

With some runs under his belt, he'll be a good contributor.
