You can't blame Brooks for the forwards running one-out all year, for the drop balls, for the stupid penalties...

We bought Tamou but ýou don't fix the leadership gap with just him. Particularly if he only plays 26 mins.
I've been supporting Brooks and hoping it works out but fact is we need a controlling confident halfback who can lead this team around the park.
2 things that stood out to me:
In that first half we were all bunch up and heads down. Needer a halfback to boss the guys around and organise.
Also attacking in their 20, Brooks can't break them down.
Not many options out there for quality halfback. We need to make a big play for Reynolds (Adam not Josh ?). Has a connection with Madge, Douehi and Roberts.
Ps. Not sure if we fixed the speed issue yet either. Roberts did not chase those first couple of tries. Isnt he meant to be one of the fastest players in the comp???
Sorry only replying to one part of your post but it stood out to me. Did Tamou sit on the bench the entire 2nd half ?
Yep he didn't play 2nd half
That is interesting ... and something to read into. Tamou was bought for on field leadership, and what we saw in the 1st half (and well all our games this year thus far) has been the complete opposite.
I hate to say it but I think he’s just his to collect his retirement money. Doueihi showing raw emotion and passion in the 2nd half is what we need moving forward
Needs to go back to Easter Island where his heads at .

Go Go gadget and Pascoe need to go
Brydens can shove it for all I care
Pascoe doesn't cop enough for overseeing this, year after year. Seems good with the corporates but at organising a competitive footy club? Not so much.

@tigerdave said in [SMH: Maguire not the problem](/post/1334613) said:Yeah given where the opposition tries are being scored, it's not really the fault of Brooks, but then I still don't think he's capable to lead the team around.
The cap is coming back in order, we're no longer going to pay over for players, the Centre of Excellence will improve the training and make us more attractive to come to, but after so long without a finals appearance, everyone wants instant success or at least clear indications of moving forward on the field.
We've had a lot of false starts over the years, periods where we thought we were on the road to improving only to be let down time and time again.
We definitely need new centre/wing combinations, not sure a different halfback would make that much of a difference at this stage.

- The rules change to enable piggy-back sets off poor discipline in the ruck. Maguire response? Let's build a massive, immobile forward pack for 2021 - he's not a progressive thinker...the best coaches are.
- Our forwards run one-out all year and the entire first half yesterday.
- Our backs have no depth in attack.
- The team apparently lacks commitment and work ethic. Maguire response? Let's sign James Roberts when we already have one mentally-weak player in the backline who can't control his temper.
- Adam Doueihi didn't kick at all in the first half yesterday.
- We didn't offload once in the first half yesterday.
Madge might be saying we need to do the above...he either isn't and that's the issue, or he is and the players aren't listening. Either way, it's not good.
I was at the game yesterday and to me it looked like the players deliberately didn't pass the ball to James Roberts. They never went right, and on the odd occasion they did, Doueihi cut him out or stepped back inside.
If you have the time go back and try and find one time where Roberts received the ball off of something structured. Even better, try and find an occasion where the backs actually had some depth and organisation ion the first half. We have no structure/the players don't listen. Worst of all, the players don't seem to want to play for each other. I think there's a cultural issue in the team where things aren't gelling, the players aren't responding and that starts and ends with the coaching staff.
No doubt Madge has a tough job to turn this club around, but it's not working. He's not the man for the job.

There are massive issues at the club. Huge issues. I think the Madge experiment has failed, I think the recruitment (which I thought was great) in the off-season has been a failure and I think the culture of the club absolutely sucks.
Yesterday was an important day but ended up an embarrassment, starting with our sponsor holding up the number 7 jersey. We absolutely deserve to be ridiculed by rival fans and the media because we are a joke. There is no way to defend yesterday.
I'm with you here avo on all you've said here.
Whilst Im not a believer or a fan of the garden gnome I dont believe he's the reason for the crap that was dishes up yesterday.
Something else is very rotten at this club. But, maybe it's for the best of both Luke and us to part ways (if possible).
Nofoaluma should be the 1st player dropped
Utter train wreck
If the performance wasn't diabolical, that looking toward the crowd after scoring the no try was lacking in humility. It was thoroughly cringeworthy and so out of sync with the game.

Well Hobbo, you won't get one from me.
You have put crap on just about every player we have at one time or another - so you had to think you were right at some stage.
Bit like backing every horse in a race and trumpeting that you have backed a winner.

My guess it's Phil Gould, and whether or not that guess is accurate, I would suspect the "powerbroker" is either not interested or too busy to become a Tigers consultant. Gould has that gig with Warriors in 2021, time will tell if it makes a difference, because they are traveling no better than us.
There are a lot of folks in rugby league who actually don't have much skin in the game, upon which it's easy to provide feedback and suggestions. And I'm not saying the commentary isn't valid, just that it's a different thing to give advice compared to actually having to execute the advice.
@telltails said in [SMH: Maguire not the problem](/post/1334436) said:The consistent blame on Brooks is beyond ridiculous but is so firmly entrenched, for his sake he should leave. Payten is the perfect coach for him and getting away from Sydney for a bit would do wonders for his mental health and probably his game. I'd love to see him playing good footy but can't see it happening here with a fan base who has lost tolerance for losing, and large portion of them deciding he is at the centre of the problem.
