I doubt they'll suspend the club, just the ones involved in 2011\. Guys like Gibbs, Lewis, Ryan won't be banned. A more interesting question is what will happen to those who left the Sharks post 2011 and are still playing here and abroad.

It will also be interesting to see the NRL's reaction. Do they hand out a punishment on top of anything asada does? They would then be punishing current players not involved in 2011.

It says what they took in one of the four or five SMH articles on the issue, and goes on to say that the substances were not on the banned list in 2011.

Personal responsibility is all fine and good in day-to-day life, but are you saying that if in any other kind of employment, if your boss gives you instructions to do something and it is later found out that what you did is illegal (although you were told it wasn't), that YOU are the one responsible for the problem?

If the boss asked me. as an engineer, to design something I have to ensure that it complies with the Health and Safety (OH &S) Act. If I found out that it did not comply with the OH & S Act and an accident/injury occured as a result of my design I, along with my boss would certainly have some explaining to do.

In the Cronulla case I believe that the players have the responsibility of enquiring with the club as to what they were popping into their mouths and whether it was performance enhancing. It is likely that they would need to provide proof that they did make this enquiry.

And in that, guys like Ryan, heighington, Lewis and Gordon are going to be penalised any way as when they signed contracts to go to the sharks they were of the belief the squad would be made up of certain players, half of which may now suspended.

Would these guys have left their previous clubs or signed with the sharks knowing potentially a whole starting side would be missing??

Depends - money is still money. Anyway Rhino's playing time should substantially increase as a result of all this (if it plays out like it is suggested at the moment)

All in all, everyone agrees this is unfortunate timing, but the reality is that for the good of the game. We have dirty laundry that needs to be aired, so that from this time forward the game can be in a healthier state. For a few years now the game has had to defend itself unfortunately, from the Storm to Bulldogs betting, now this, the game is on notice. No-one wanted it to get to this point, but obviously the minority have taken it there… Its a shame, it really is, but the kids, the future of the game needs to learn that success isnt measured in mls... I dont care much for a game that injuries are rushed back into work too early.

Sad as it is, its all for the best.

CRONULLA captain Paul Gallen and star players Ben Pomeroy and John Morris fronted ex-Sharks head-conditioner Trent Elkin at his house last Tuesday night over the ASADA doping crisis engulfing the club.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the trio visited Elkin to demand answers about his level of co-operation with the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority. Elkin is alleged to have divulged full details of the Sharks high performance supplements program during his reign as head conditioner, which ended last October when he joined Ricky Stuart at Parramatta.

The Daily Telegraph has been told ASADA have informed Sharks players and officials there is a whistle-blower who has detailed the exact nature of the peptide-based supplements the club used. The information has paved the way for former ASADA senior counsel Richard Redman to encourage Cronulla players to admit guilt and accept six-month bans.

Cronulla initially told the players they had 48 hours to accept the six-month bans or opt to fight it and face two years on the sideline last Tuesday. But with the majority of players suggesting they were unaware the peptides they were being supplied were on the WADA banned list, they have so far refused to accept any plea-bargain offer. Dank has repeatedly denied any wrong doing.

"With the season kick-off just hours away we accept that the ongoing speculation around the ASADA investigation is causing incredible uncertainty for many in the game, particularly right now for Cronulla and its fans," NRL Chief Executive, Mr Dave Smith, said today. "As I have said from day one, the NRL is taking the ASADA investigation very seriously.

I can't really name names but someone of the people arcing up about their treatment are laying it on a big thick given the depth of their involvement. Once people start talking it's going to all look pretty ugly. Not just at Cronulla either.

I agree that the players need to be responsible for their own actions, but these lists change every year. What was OK last year might not be this year or vice versa.

It should be up to the clubs to have someone on board who can review the constant changes and advise the players.

I still don't understand the fact that they were not on the banned list but now they are so using them in the past automatically becomes illegal. That would be like changing the speed limit from 100 down to 50 today and booking me for driving down it last week at 100.

Should be the TOTAL responsibility of the CLUB if you tAke anything else personal thats different.

Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has been stood down in the wake of the scandal engulfing the NRL club.

Flanagan, who took over from Ricky Stuart at the helm of the club late in the 2010 season, has racked up a record of 21 wins from 56 matches in the top grade.

The former NSW State of Origin assistant coach is extremely popular with the Cronulla players and his absence is a major disruption just two days before the club's first match of the season, against the Gold Coast Titans at Sharks Stadium.

There are reports emerging that football manager Darren Mooney and head trainer Mark Noakes have been told their services are no longer required.

Advertisement Flanagan started his coaching career as Parramatta SG Ball coach in 1997 and after stints in the Roosters lower grades, he followed Stuart to the Sutherland Shire in 2007.

He took over late in the 2010 season when Stuart stood down.

Cronulla have been a club in crisis this week after ASADA officials told players they were facing minimum six-month suspensions due revelations they may have taken performance-enhancing drugs during the 2011 season.

The 2013 season was viewed as a new dawn for the club following the off-season acquisition of high-profile recruits Luke Lewis, Michael Gordon, Jonathan Wright, Beau Ryan and Chris Heighington to boost an already impressive roster which already boasted the likes of NSW captain Paul Gallen, Todd Carney and Wade Graham.

I'm not expecting names but where are these people from? The six clubs already named or are we talking more than just those already named as being investigated?
