SOS - half back needed

I like Lui alot.

but why was he defending against gaz so often.

Because we were playing a compressed line which worked until they went wide . Then it appeared our outside backs had no idea how to react when Saints did that . Can I say something seriously though . We take that game plan with our best side and we CAN beat St George We really tested them up the guts . :sign:

At the risk of getting half the forum jumping on me, I can't see who our 1/2 is, if Lui then he went missing in action… yes, not the only one, and yes we can talk about playing behind beaten forwards, but for mine, he has probably played 1-2 decent games this year, consistency is not his go...

our forwards have player very inconsistent this year, so it doesnt make it easy for a young halfback. sure, the freaks of the game can congure something from nothing at times, but even after a solid start by him today - benji was well contained.

give lui a near full strength side and some go forward and we still have a chance to win the comp this year.

This.

Their second phase play killed us, and the cheap try to Cooper by spreading it down the left where they had the overlap was terrible stuff.

Lui squared off against Gasnier a fair bit, and even brought him down twice one-on-one. Gasnier would have brushed most blokes Lui's size off.

It wasn't his best game today, but it was far from his worst and the return of his mate Ellis and a specialist flyer in Tuqiri next week will see him lift.

Last couple of games been very quiet. His attacking flair is missing.

this is how I'd analyse his performance… I wouldnt say he had a bad game, he just didnt have any impact. Apart from his 4 missed tackles, his stats are still better than Benjis!

Let's get out the violins. Lui hasn't even played 30 NRL games yet!!!! I remember when Chrissy couldn't tackle if his life depended on it, but look at him now, he's a superstar. I know they play different positions but the kid is 21, less than 30 games under his belt, 17 which helped us get to the semi's in 2010\. Why is everyone so impatient with our young ones??? How else are they suppose to get better if they don't give it a go working with the more experienced players.

because he is not progressing in my opinion as a halfback, he looks lost, even intimidated to have a go him self, Jake Miller showed more in is debut and he is not afraid to bark orders, this is because he has been a halfback from day one, lui is far better when at number 6, but hey that position is already filled. Bring Miller in at half and move lui to the bench to cover and rotate him Farah. Farah to me has been sadly out of form this year due to a niggling groin injury, he has hardly kicked the ball in general play and seems to make ordinary decisions when he gets fatigued. I moving lui to the bench and rotating him with Farah would actually help farah make better decisions.

We saw what happened when Miller tried to take control of the game in the match against the Titans.

He kicked out on the full and Marshall/Farah shut him out of the movement for the rest of the night.

I have big expectations for his future don't get me wrong, but it's too early to be writing off Lui and pumping this kid's tyres yet.

I don't have a problem with lui, he is a great prospect but he is not a number 7 and the sooner everyone wakes up to the fact the better. We persisted with trying turn Marshall into a number 7 and we are going down the same path again with lui. I actually believe that Lui will be a better number 6 than Marshall because he is more patient, but who is going to drop a high profile player to park football, the answer not Tim Sheens.

I don't have a problem with robert lui at all i just think they need to maybe give curtis sironen a run or put moltzen at halfback and put jake mullaney (i know i have said this a thousand times and it probably won't happen) but at least give it a go and see if it works, from what i have heard he is quite good.

LOLOLOLOL dropping Marshall.

LOOOOOOOOOL no idea.

:brick:

Lui has been solid at halfback and is definitely our best option at the moment. He's had 2 or 3 bad games due to the whole team having shockers. Thread closed.

**Edit:** Two good games out of ten? That will do me.

You can't seriously be happy with two good games out of ten Moh?
He played well against the Dragons in the final LAST YEAR and only good game since was against a very poor Canberra team.
His defence costs us points every game and he continues to drop the ball or make a mistake at the worst possible time.
Marshall gets away with making blunders because he can turn it around and win us games - but you can't carry a half and five eighth both making silly errors.
And although the stats may say Marshall misses tackles he also comes up with trysavers - and they're the ones that count.
At the moment Lui is trying to be a poor mans version of Marshall - and not succeeding

Original poster, why don't you pull one out of your ar*e.

If you haven't noticed, good halfbacks are very rare and he has shown he can develop onto a good one.

It takes time, not sure if you know but half back is the hardest postion to play, especially when your so young and inexperienced.

Solutions?????

No, no. I meant that I was done with the argument if he, or anyone else, thinks he's had two good games out of the last ten. That is absolute rubbish.

I don't see the Lui/Marshall similarities TBH. I honestly don't know what the fuss is about, he hasn't been at his best, yes, but he hasn't been horrible either. With the exception of some horrible defensive efforts - but it's not like there are any better halves at the club. He's still a young talent and he has shown SO much promise and all you lot can do is bag him. Lui is our only option; and a good one at that.

Chuck knows what he's talking about.

He is a 5/8 not a half. Miller ( who is a half back ) into the side asap.
