I think it shows a few things

1. We lack any real depth both forwards and backs.
2. Our spine does not take charge
3. Captain not leading from example in a crunch game
4. We are thereabouts around the 8 but may fall short again

Off Contract 2020
Oliver Clark, **Matthew Eisenhuth**, Robert Jennings, Chris Lawrence, Benji Marshall, **Sam McIntyre**, Chris McQueen, Alex Seyfarth, Dylan Smith, Elijah Taylor

There are really only 2 players i would keep ME & SM.

Think we should be putting Marshall to H/B this week and giving Walters the 5/8 position and put brooks on notice.

Great unemotional summary of where things sit.

Mind you i am sick of finishing 9th - thought last night was a game we could win and don't rate Souths that highly now don't also rate us that high.
Madge made a wrong call with the Bench hate to say it but should of played Packer we needed some size to go forward and should of dropped MCK.

They had 58% and a 5-0 penalty run in the first half and still only led 10-0. That suggests an improved defensive set up on our part, awful attack on theirs or a little of both. Match ended up 53/47 possession I think, 6-5 penalties their way. Given a 50/50 split in the second half we won the half 10-8 even with that workload. Plus we had a back rower playing centre, a kid on the wing and are down on forward. If we got closer to a 50/50 possession split in the first half and our fair share of penalties we might have pinched the game.

So what are the lessons from last night?

Souths aren't very good. Or at least they were not last night. Unless they've got another gear they're zero chance of winning the premiership.

Our backline depth is really concerning. Neither of our centres were full time centres a year or so ago. Granted we've got Talau and Joey out but if the next choices after Mbye (who to be fair I think has been okay overall) are MCK and Chris Lawrence it's not ideal.

Forwards I thought were okay given the ball we had. They had to do a lot of defending. With Stefano coming in next year there's a pretty damn good pack emerging. I also think the auditioning process has clarified who is NRL and who is not NRL standard.

Brisbane will be interesting. They've got massive, massive problems. We need a win.

If Brisbane lose today and don't get the monkey off there back its safe to safe we will lose to them next week.
I don't think the Broncos can make the 8 now based upon whom they have to play at back end of season and same can be said about us if we lose to them.
Last nights game was a crunch game for us and we could not stand up, at this point i am writing them off not to make the 8 again.
Disappointing again however reality we just don't have the cattle, will be watching with interest the Parra game to see how our new recruit performs.

Sorry mate but what can they do when they are penalised out of the contest. I can’t blame them at all. You can’t do much when the authorities have already decided the outcome. Believe what you will but its very obvious.

Souths rolled us up the guts ....but don't they have a crap forward pack now

Our attack was non existant 1st half ...we didn't get into the opposition 20 in the 1st half ...not once .....

They can’t even do a basic legs tackle..

Our pack even at full strength lacks punch ..

The only ones that make post contact meters are Aloiai and just of late Eisenhuth..

Wait..never mind..

So our forwards sucked we never got into their end and they can't tackle yet the halves have to work with that..

They could at least show some creativity and try and spark something
It wasn’t until Marshall came on that they did the above.

Scumbags since 1909

1908, it says so on their socks.

I know when the game started.

I was referring to the Premiership they pinched off the Tigers in 1909.

They have been scumbags ever since. They also insist on proving it all the time.

???????????

Benji coming on also aligned with a couple of penalties going our way and our one set restart - hence being able to get some field position and some points. We were not allowed to get into the game until that point and South's had free reign. Errors inevitable when you hemmed in your own half and like last week in previous years in same position they would have put 50 on us.

???????????

That's why they have 1908 on their socks - to tell people when they became scumbags.

The way Penrith played today against Cronulla highlights the effort our team last week when they played Penrith. Yet with iinjuries, suspension and a lopsided penalty count against them they still put another great effort against Souths

My assessment is there has to be a very large turn over of the roster to be a competitive unit week in and out . To finish 9th will be a stretch this season but moving forward into next season going in with a bunch of unknowns doesn’t pan well !

And ‘L’ for left and ‘R’ for Right printed on them as well.
