Stadium Plan

I happen to like the manual scoreboard at Leichhardt, how is it an embarrassment?
There are plenty of other things that need updating, the scoreboard is part of the character of the stadium.

Especially after Saturday with the anticipation of the placing of the 6 board up to take the score to 60, then subsequent turning upside down if second one in 66 to become 69.

Not to mention the iconic Farah visit and even the memes of Joffa doing similar. Our club has a long history, so I am happy to keep one of the oldest remaining parts of it.

Tradition still has its place.

Not everyone can or wants to travel to the sticks
my man haha. It's 50km's from the inner west.

Can't forgo the greatest suburban stadium in
the NRL & alienate the fans just 2 make U happy.
They dont have to. A successful club will fill the place without them.

Arhh returning to what we did from 00 to 04. Yeah they were good/successful times. Let the good times role.
Back to the future....if brisbane tigers are the 18th team we should have to change to the mcflys. They should be the tigers

I think they are trying to get support and funding for an upgrade to both grounds rather than go back to the future.

Personally I think it’s a good idea.

Lots of sporting codes use Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown within their communities.

It also solves our home ground issue and goes further to build our identity in these communities.

“Why’s there so much traffic tonight Dad?”

“Because the Tigers 🐅 are playing tonight!” 😅

Well said, completely agree.

Good move by the board and management. This is well overdue and important if we want to run a decent development program.

Here's hoping both our stadiums get a much needed upgrade. While other clubs in marginal electorates have received multiple stadium upgrades, we've been treated like second class citizens.
Not many upgrades of Sydney suburban grounds recently.

You can combine a huge video screen into a new scoreboard. Kill two birds with one stone. Give the original to the powerhouse museum.
Again I stress, people want value when parting with their money these days. Back when it was $5 or $10 to get in maybe the scoreboard would suffice. Not when your paying over $40 and not even get a comfortable seat.
I've paid more than $120 to sit at Suncorp. No less no more comfortable than the old tart in terms of seats but at least at Leichardt you can get in and out of rows.

As for the scoreboard, no doubt it's heritage listed. If they got rid of that a part of the spirit of the ground would die.

What would a private investor stand to gain bankrolling an upgrade of a council owned oval. I would have thought there a better ways to invest millions of dollars.

PRIVATE INVESTMENT PUSH
There is a general agreement that Leichhardt and Campbelltown require a refurbishment in line with other NRL grounds – and that could mean private investment.

“We all readily acknowledge that Leichhardt needs work and it’s not of NRL standard as far as change rooms and corporate facilities,” Hagipantelis said.

“There was, of course, a promise of $50m which the Government reneged on and, unfortunately, there isn’t an election – state or Federal – for quite some time so it will be difficult for us to bring any pressure to bear on government to fund any upgrade to Leichhardt Oval.

“But we are in earnest discussions with council – Campbelltown, Liverpool and the Inner-West – about what can be done to raise funding and we are prepared to explore all options, including private equity into the stadiums, if available, to help fund refurbishments of those stadiums.

“We would even be open, and in fact encourage, private equity. We’re exploring those opportunities; investors who are prepared to invest in the redevelopment of a stadium for a return on that investment whereby they would have an equitable holding in those facilities, an ownership share.

“There would be some arrangement made where they receive a return on their investment as a joint venture with council, who are open to discuss the opportunity but there would be a detailed and lengthy process to get through from a council perspective.

“I can’t envisage any scenario where Wests Tigers will not play at Leichhardt Oval in the future. Leichhardt Oval is an institution and it will always figure largely in the Wests Tigers calendar so the suggestion we will never play another game there has got no basis or merit whatsoever.”

Great…. Was very happy about us going back to LO & CS for more games until saw the dribble from the kiss of death Lee.

Everything he says never happens.
Now I’m nervous about the LO future more so than CS.

Dear god we must be the only organization to agree to something with no idea how/where the funding is coming from. We need it to be improved for this to work but hopefully someone will cough up....
Complete opposite of build it and they will come. Its play in a field and hope it becomes befitting of a professional RL team. Jesus wept...

This is another bad move. I thought most home games next year were going to be at Campbelltown?? Why 5 at Leichhardt? Unless they are not going to upgrade it so it needs to go. Manual scoreboards are an embarrassment. Play trials there.

Our future is in the South West. Campbelltown is getting an upgrade (be it small). Its 2023 and we need to get with the times. If we start winning games Campbelltown will sell out every week. FACT
No one goes to Campbelltown, even when we're winning. They pack Leichhardt out even when we're losing.
