I think a good goal for this team should be: if you are to loose, lose by less than 2 tries.

Simply cannot have a blowout scoreline again.

There will be many blowout scores this year just like last year, the rules and the adjudicators of those rules have not changed sufficiently for there to be much change imho. With one or two exceptions every team will get blown off the park this year on more than 1 occasion

But, The teams with the strongest rosters will prevail. Once again, it's another Season where our Management have been unable to give us a competitive squad. Hopefully they continue with POSSIBLY giving us a squad capable of finishing in the top half in 2023.

We will struggle as a team.
Our backline is terrible (AD, AJ, Talau gone) we have yet another spine combo, no forward game breaker and will be carved up.

3 home games in our 1st 10 games sucks.

Yeah the backs a big concern
I feel similar.

Looking forward to Hastings hope.he goes well

Every season past I have tried to be optimistic but I just aren’t this year. We have signed nothing that will change our results, our experienced players sucked last year when we needed them most.

Replacing the coaching staff is my only hope but our squad has zero depth which will bite us as the season goes on, one which we already have 3 probable starters out already.

Mentally weak teams concede a blowout. The rules were just an excuse.

The mentally weak use the rules as an excuse.

We are gonna suck this year. Only shining lights will be our youth like Stefano and Laurie once again.

Madge will do well to be coach by November

I don't think we'll see any meaningful change this year. Maybe next year. I think we're objectively worse than 12 or 14 other teams. I'd be shocked if we made the 8.

We must improve this year.

You have to have the cattle to improve, and we are severely lacking.

Can a young player play a season or two without learning anything? Perhaps there are one or two who could slot into that group, but certainly not a majority? Unless there is something terribly wrong at the club?

The club has made the finals 3 times in 21 years, so make of that what you will

It’s always a last desperate move to get rid of a key individual in the group, thinking that it would solve all problems. Often it’s an additional contribution which fosters improvement, not what is taken out. A little like cooking, it’s the ingredients you add which improves the flavour of the dish.

Will Brooks pass/fail: I think he will fail but I hope I’m wrong.

Lids pass/fail: Fail and will be replaced by Simpkin early in the season.

Hastings pass/fail: Pass. I can see him trying to take control of a game and having a positive impact on our attack and the teams attitude.

Will Madge post a winning or losing record: slight losing record. Will win four from 10 to start the year (hope I’m wrong again).

Will Musgrove start with Stef: No and will struggle to make grade all year.

Will Twal start at all: Starting prop along with Stef.

Starting centres: Gildart and Roberts.

Thats a good analogy twentyforty, i also think that every club has or suppose to have (salary cap) an equal oppurtunity to cook that special cuisine (GF victory).

And all of this would depend on the quality of the ingredients (players) you choose, it would also depend on **Luck**, e.g, the **eggplant** looks nice and pretty on the outside but it is rotten on the inside (players) which would totally ruin the ability to make the clubs (in this case the Bulldogs) ability to make their favourite dish and that could of have been known as their **Babaganoush trophy**.

I pose the same question to my son's who are passionate supporters. Would one of the leading coaches, say a Bellamy, Bennett, Robbo get last year's team into the top 8 and be competitive every game. Great coaches are surrounded by great players. Look at Cleary-couldn't coach at the Tigers but won a premiership at the Panthers (class players).

Imagine how crap your senior players must be if people think our best players are Stefano and Laurie who are in 2nd year of first grade.

Brooks, Tamou, Noffa and Twal MUST lift!

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind a better coach could've got our team playing better than they did last season. Attack and defence structures were absolutely awful

The off season football department restructure, along with the assistant coaching appointments forced upon the head coach are the main reasons that I go into the coming season with some semblance of hope.

As for most of the original thread questions, I expect both the named individuals and the squad as a whole to improve across the field as a result of the above changes. We need it, so hopefully Musgrove can start and contribute and would have Twal on the bench until first rotation, then remaining on the field to finish the match from there.

Centre wise, Gildart on the left and based on availability and my limited knowledge of To'a etcetera, maybe go with experience on the right to kick off the season with Roberts.

Okay... Brooks, Madge, Liddle, lovers/haters etc optimists/pessimists, season 2022, if you've got the nerve, all you experts please make your predictions here for the first 10 rounds:
Will Brooks pass/fail
Lids pass/fail
Hastings pass/fail
Will Madge post a winning or losing record
Will Musgrove start with Stef
Will Twal start at all
Starting centres

Brooks - pass
Liddle - pass
Madge - winning record - he has a lot of good help this year
Hastings - pass
Musgrove - if he gets really focussed will start - short bursts
Twal - will start at lock
Starting centres - Gildart and young Tupo. I would have said Kepoa before the latest injury

Glass half full predictions, I know.

hastings 7 brooks 6 = improvement. need a kicker for a long time. if hasting can kick we get into 8. douie in 4. if douie is 7 he'll keep on kicking 10 meters to try get the ball back and lose field position. too much arogant plays.

Brooks will get a pass with merit, running riot off Hastings
Liddle will start and pass ( pun intended )
Hastings will be the best WT half since Prince
Madge will have us in the 8 by round 10
Musgrove will definitely start with Stef and they'll be devastating
Twal might make the bench early but more dynamic players will supersede his plodding
Tupou and T'oa will start in the centres and set some sort of records ( excluding 2005 )

The question to me is where does Twal fit. I reckon you can only have one worker in your pack. You need go forward and tackle busts.

I'd start Twal at lock. He has a lot to offer as a worker. Then you have something like Stef and Musgrove or Mikaele starting props.

I like Tamou but I don't get how we can have him and Twal in the team at the same time and Twal to me is better than Tamou.

It'll be interesting to see the pack that runs out over the course of the season.

The only certainty imo is we will struggle. There will be shining lights like Stefano, but for the most part it’s gonna be a hard year. The ice Madge is standing on will only get thinner and thinner as the year goes on.
I can't see you changing your opinion on this post 🌝
