Taking a wrecking ball to the club! (Recent Media Reports)

No Finals since 2011 and 3 x Wooden Spoons in 2022, 2023 & 2024, the Wests Tigers club need to hand in their NRL1st Grade Licence! Only 14 wins in three years with the final straw having over 60 points scored against them by the 2nd last team in the final 2024 battle for the spoon game.
Wests Tigers supporters please consider your thoughts before making any of the following responses:
1. I will be a supporter for life regardless of performances
2. We will be better next year in 2025
3. The club deserve to be in the NRL because the joint-venture teams Balmain & Wests are original clubs from 1908.
4. Plenty of other clubs have won Wooden Spoons.
4. The club has great Junior talent coming through the grades
5. Have you forgotten 2005?
Whilst I admire the club bringing in Richo to try and turn things around, the Wests Tigers need to just put a team in the NSW Cup (to appease current fans) and give their Licence back to the NRL where they can allocate a new licence to e.g.a QLD Cup side or another identified side from NZ, WA or Papua New Guinea etc. There are far too many sides from Sydney and surely Tigers supporters are so tired of seeing their club ridiculed in the media year after year as a result of officials making decisions bordering on lunacy.
Watching the WESTS TIGERS play in the NSW Cup would be more enjoyable where they may perform better and make finals (though not a given). If I were Wests Ashfield I would make a board decision for 2025 and refuse any further funding of the team in the NRL1st Grade.
Maybe private ownership is the only way out?
I am fully aware this post is full of negativity and supporters on this site are loaded with positive thinkers, but surely I am not the only fan who has finally put up the sign "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH "!

There is a lot of misinformation and confusion on this site about what is going on here. The facts are pretty straightforward. The HBG under the Chairmanship of Andreacchio and with the support of Gilbert and Wayde initiated the review which resulted in the dissolution of the former WT Board and the removal of Hagipantelis as Chair and Pascoe as CEO. Note that this cost these 3 directors their own positions at Wests Tigers but they were happy to support this for the good of the Club). The new CEO, Shane Richardson was appointed and O'Farrell was appointed as Chair. The Review also required the rapid appointment of a high quality Board of independent directors. Then fairly soon after this there I believe that there was a coup at the HBG Board and Romero was appointed Chair and Burgess Deputy. While Romero made statements that she supported implementation of the Review's recommendations, the fact that it has taken all year to appoint the 'high quality independent directors' and it still hasnt happened, does not give you much confidence that she and Burgess are supportive of such quality independent Board appointments. (In fact, I understand that the previous executive search firm put forward several high quality names many months ago, but the process was constantly delayed and deferred. And just recently they started again from scratch on a search process). Andreacchio's comments about 'people who are upset about losing their blazers' is a clear reference to other board members. There have also been some suggestions that Chairman Fedora may somehow be involved in this whole situation behind the scenes in order to get revenge and that Romero and Burgess may be beholden to him - however so far there is no evidence to support this. The whole 'investigation' into misbehaviour by Andreachhio, Wayde and Gilbert appears to clearly be a sham designed to have them removed from the HBG Board, so that the HBG Board can introduce other people who align with certain directors' interests - and that would almost certainly be highly detrimental to the Club's future. The structure of the ownership of the Club is broken - the whole debenture situation is ridiculous, archaic and actually from a legal standpoint highly questionable. The Constitution obviously needs to be rewritten to bring it, and the ownership structure of the Club, into line with 21st century business practices and proper governance.

The losers are the members and fans. We finally have a CEO who is highly professional, works incredibly hard, is highly respected in the NRL community and has achieved more in less than 12 months than previous administrators achieved in 12 years. We have the highest quality Chairman in the NRL. We need to appoint genuinely high quality independent directors with business acumen and intelligence. We are finally getting the recruitment right in terms of talent, structure and terms of the contracts. We are finally attracting very high quality sponsors and treating them with respect. We are finally doing something about capturing our vast junior areas and developing them. And we are finally engaging professionally with the south-west Sydney corridor. All in 12 months!! These are remarkable achievements. In summary, we are no longer a 'basket case' (which is how many very senior NRL officials referred to the club under previous administrations). We are finally earning respect. We finally have an administration and Club set-up that quality players wish to join. We finally have something to look forward to. We finally have hope!

And yet the clear suggestion is that some directors appear to want to tear it all down simply because their egos are bruised. Seriously?!! If these people care about this Club, as they claim to do, they themselves would step aside, let Barry O'Farrell and a professional executive search firm finalise the appointments of high quality genuinely independent directors and let the Club finally move forward.

For the sake of the long-suffering members, the fans, the players and the Club.

Gee, there are some bed wetters on this forum. If a typo in a media release is your biggest problem, you're doing OK. The substance of the release is support for the review and Wests Tigers. That's it, Romero has backed herself into a corner. Hard to backflip out of there.
My only real concern is if there is a way she could manipulate the hiring of the independant board members on to the wests tigers board as to align with her and her allies in the HBG boardrooms agendas. Then things at the Wests Tigers would never change.

Don't understand all the intricate details and don't give a damm
As someone born into a balmain tigers family I wish I never hear the word Balmain again .Its just a suburb close to the city full of highly overpriced Terrace houses .
Finally I'm looking forward to the 2025 Wests Tigers season and hate all this rubbish . Its like a Trojan horse !

Thank you for this post.
It exposes the true agenda of most of the posters who've been crying for pages about absolutely nothing but a fantasy piece by a journo.
We are the Wests Tigers, not the Balmain Tigers that you, Cochise and others crave.
As an actual Wests Tigers supporter I couldn't be more disgusted by people like yourself who can't accept that times have changed.
I guess Balmain boys really do cry......and cry......and cry.
Hopefully Wests Tigers supporters are made of sterner stuff
What a rubbish post mate.

The only reason I support the Wests Tigers franchise is because of the Balmain Tigers involvement.

As a kid I couldn't stand the magpies so it was a pretty crap situation.

If Balmain leaves the merger that would be music to my ears, however if they are removed from the NRL, then my allegiance would go to the Roosters.

Either way, the magpies have to realise they will lose a supporter to their franchise.

Not a huge loss, one fan, but the board should think further about it, the Balmain Tigers have a massive portion of the fanbase... It won't be just one.

I remember 10-12 years ago, these arguments did everything bar cause bloodshed. These days, it just feels like the last few flickering embers. There definitely isn’t the vitriol that there used to be. I think gave up on these arguments after reading someone say that no Balmain player was ever dumb enough to have a seizure in the ocean and drown. That’s how far we’d sunk. I didn’t want any more part of it after that.

I don't remember that comment but it is completely disgusting and i hope they were given a lifetime ban (if it is possible).Completely gutter level shite

Here here @Hargreaves great summary!

Romero, Burgess, Montgomery & Tropiano have an opportunity to backflip their alleged position otherwise they will shortly feel the wrath of Liquor & Gaming, NRL & 1000s of fans and become the most hated people in Australian sport.

Let's hope we receive news this week on the status of the Wests Tigers board appointments & final review recommendations being delivered.

Pretty Sure this was raised before but i am 100% Vlandys has already the bright sparks that is no bail out this time if thing go pear Shape. And i am admit that they were told two months ago hurry the process up also via Vlandy's.

I think that's a fair call but a few on here are jumping at shadows. The source of this latest drama is a text and some comments from Tony Andreacchio and a story written by Michael Chammas. Chammas is a journo so a reasonable starting position is to distrust him. Andreacchio is a real estate agent and has an axe to grind so there are two reasons to be suspicious of him. I don't know how this will play out but it's too early for doom and gloom.

I don’t care at all about the dramas on the HBG board beyond how it affects the Tigers …

just get the new directors appointed to the WT board …have the other two step down to concentrate on their own situation at HBG , and that brings us to an end of this particular episode right ?

There are 100% issues here and it isn't just people jumping at shadows.

These recommendations should have been fully implemented months ago.

Carelessness and complacency has been the root cause for our 15 years of failure. This is just yet another example of the incompetence of HBG. If someone from a private company sent out a press release with the company's name spelled wrong you better believe they're getting sacked the next day.

There is no room for extreme incompetence in a professional environment.
