From the wests Ashfield website .
Hidden a long way down the bottom of the by laws ..literally at the end

n) Nominations for the position of debenture holder director must be proposed & seconded by existing debenture holder members
o) On the occasion of vacancies on the board reserved for debenture holders , the preselection process of the debenture holder group will be conducted by the debenture holders.

Sounds really democratic 🤣

It also gives no detail about what a debenture holder is or what power they have .

It is like the political system in North Korea, the same people (family) decide who can join them at the top, unfortunately we are getting the same type of results for the rest of us who have no say in the process

We don’t care what the impetus was we just want to see good governance practices implemented at both Wests Tigers and HBG.

I’m pretty sure the many of the others who signed the petition share my sentiments but I think it’s a great thing Liquor and Gaming are involved and investigating regardless of whether they investigated pre-petition or not.
Yes they started before the petition , but be sure this petition will help make sure liquor and gaming do there job extra well , it will also stay in the media which Romero will not want , it may help sway the debenture holders not on the board to re consider other board members positions and clip them , or over throw these knuckle heads

I'm not concerned.

I'm merely stating the obvious. Reading the comments on the petition, many seem to thing the L&G can "force" the club to change etc etc

And they cannot
So, we should all just sit back and do nothing? Read the room, it’s about the unification of this fan base. It’s about trying to give people a voice.

Instead of criticising, why not give some solutions?

Yes this system is overdue to be removed
27,000 social members should have the right to vote - it’s their club
The above 27,000 members make up a huge part of the clubs financial success .no cash no club ( see pokie revenue )
Having social members vote is healthy for the club .( fresh eyes )
They should also have a way to become a full member , be it play golf , or bowls etc , join one of the internal clubs become full member and then have the opportunity after 2 or 3 years to run for a position on the board ,that’s a pretty standard set up , but to be run by basically 20 people is a disgrace and is very very outdated ,
The board should agree to have the mother club buy out the debentures from these people , give them $ 500 each , then scrap them and start again as per above , piss easy system to run , very fair , board terms 2 years only , president can run and also have a current director challenge him , minor spots on the board - Vice president - junior vice President - treasure elected at first board meeting buy the director elected by members ,

Not correct.

The 27,000 social members of the HBG can vote for 2 members on the board of HBG (formally known as Western Suburbs Leagues Club Ltd) and the 200 general members can vote for 5 board members from the list of debenture holders (which numbers up to, 20, currently at 16).

The there are 7 board members of HBG in total, but all are voted for by various members of the club. It's democratic, just a little different to most other clubs.

Wests Tigers currently has 4 board members

Barry O'Farrell - Independent - Chair (temporary)
Danny Stapleton - Balmain Tigers Football Club
Dennis Burgess - Wests Magpies Football Club
Stephen Montgomery - Holman Barnes Group

There is currently an executive search for 3 more independent directors.

None of the board of Wests Tigers are voted in but they are appointed.

And just a point of order everyone is missing... When you become a "member" of Wests Tigers, you are not really a member, but a season ticket holder. That's it
Burgess and Stapleton both should not be allowed on , it should be free from previous useless directors

That is the info I have as well. They can order an administrator to take control while the new system is implemented.
Spot on mate , there are a lot of people on hear think they know the system but there are a few who are just not correct , i did 6 year 3 x 2 years terms and it was when the biggest changes come in smoking ban to areas , first year there were about 1200 clubs either amalgamated or closed their doors , we did a lot of work with liquor and gaming to make sure we were spot on

I would like to see Romero or Burgess on one of the boy podcasts , and I would like the boys to let us forum members ask questions that they put to either of them , trouble is they don’t have the guts to show up and take the challenge , and before anyone says they don’t have to , we’ll really it’s part of the job to defend the club and positions they hold but both are week and won’t turn up, they will just hide and hope it goes away , reason they are not up to it , and they would read this forum and know there are a few on hear that actually know more than they probably expected .

The thing is they actually agreed to implement every recommendation.
True but boards change as can philosophies, directions and ideas with them. At the end of the day, telling the owners how to suck eggs could eventuate in a long drawn out public process that could present serious ramifications for the recruitment and retention teams still working on Galvin and others. The threat of get out clause activation for some of our most high profile recruits…including the CEO also becomes enhanced.
We could end up with a pyrrhic victory out of all this.
The best outcome I can see is HBG gets fed up with the bad press and sells the football club.

Every other club, the members nominate other members to positions on the board.

No prerequisite there either. You just have to be a member.

You could end up with Bob the bin man whose never seen a spreadsheet, or read a financial report in his life

That's how club boards work. And a club I was a member of.... That happened.

I'd wager the average competency of the HBG debentures is higher than many nominations from the floor at other clubs
All the more reason for independent persons on the WT Board.
