Tallyn Da Silva #270

I hate to put too much pressure on young players. I recall when Da Silva debuted there were comparisons being made to a teenaged Robbie Farah.

Well I’ve recently copped the tip from a very keen judge that Jared Haywood could well be the next Grant Fyvie.

Exciting times ahead at the back of the ruck for
Wests Tigers fans 👍
Grant is a local electrician! Was a solid backup hook in the 80s

So, TDS gets another chance next week to start?

After back to back starting gigs where he clearly struggles, as does the team... does he still think he's deserving to be a starting hooker?

Hopefully he can self reflect and be realistic where he's at, within his professional development.

Manly is the word eh?
They've got;
* Croker (injury prone)
* Simpkin (decent, service is a bit lacking for mine)
* Gordon Chan Kum Tong (Samoan player, robust - haven't seen a lot of him this year.)
* Jazz Teverga (Off to ESL next year apparently)
- Ashton Large ( a child, probably a few years off)

Is TDS better than those options?
I think so.
Can't play 80 though.

I doubt he’s available next week.
That hip drop will be tough to defend. The player he did it to was pissed off about it.

Could very well be a Tristan Hope 65 mins / Charlie Murray 15 mins dummy half combo next week I shit you not. In fairness they can be serviceable but we’ll be relying on Latu & Doeuihi for creativity.

his service was poor tonight
he’s 100% a weapon at the back end of a game when there’s more fatigue in the opposition , but not a starter yet.
Man I said it already throughout the week . Take his legs away , and he is not good by nrl standards .
You put him back in cup and towels those guys up .
I remember when we had zack docker clay for a season , and he absolutely tore apart reserve grade that year . Like he does every year for the roosters now …. But put him up into 1sts and his game doesn’t translate .
TDS has all the tools , so he definitely will get there as ZDC is vertically challenged so he was always limited …. But it’s the point I’ve been making.
It’s not to be a dick .
When the ref doesn’t allow the ruck to flow and has tight 10 m that borders on 8 , a game like TDS becomes nill
And void , and a game built on service and tackling with no flash , like Simpkin becomes more required and stands out more.
The kid isn’t there yet and his manager and whoever is feeding his head with this bullshit needs to chill … I’m with @Demps , hopefully this was a last minute dose of reality . Because here “he’s our TDS , at a lot of other clubs it will be do something or see you later …. No matter what bullshit they feed you to sign you .
And manly are the worst for it . If you didn’t grow up somewhere between Mona vale and Mosman , their relationship to you is extremely transactional especially in the boys club backroom that the Fultons used to dominate …… what can you do man . If he doesn’t succeed early , then he could spend the next 3/5 years floating between clubs like Damien Cook did .
People forget that little nugget of information .

Da Silva seemed to have stage fright last night. I mean if you want to be the best, you need to learn from the best and at the moment Koroisau is one of the best. I worry about the advice he has received.
A few things really stood out to me.

- His try [brilliant] , followed up by standing up quite gingerly, hands held in a very strange position and just a sheer look of disgust on his face. Walked away shaking his head. I wonder what he was thinking?

- chatting with Luke Brooks at full time, appeared to being comforted / consoled. Interesting looking engagement.

- the congratulations from team mates after the try, albeit they were attempting to congratulate him, the energy was quite low. It was the end of the game but it was a very uninterested approach by team mates.

If he starts next week, if he's not suspended... and struggles, as I suspect. I think he needs to re think his future. The hopes of being a starting 80 minute hooker is a pipe dream. Hes a bench, impact player at the moment. Chilling behind Api for a few more years would do him wonders. Balls in his court. Perhaps soon thats some one else's problem?

Note, I like TDS. I'd prefer him to stay and work on himself, professionally but I understand he has his own ambitions. Either way, I believe the right move for our club will be made.

The way I saw it, he’s a 20 year old who most likely knows, not only will he not be at the club next week, but will also go to the club he’s playing. Would feel very awkward and would have to affect his game on some level. At least he can’t be accused of tanking though.

Or another possibility, maybe all the talk has gotten to him? Seems like it’s an excuse for the rest of the team to have been disrupted by Galvin, to the point our season is now down the drain. So maybe TDS has been distracted by this mess?

Good post Demps. I am pleased Marshall is batting away questions about Da Silva's future.

Sadly his game last night reaffirmed a lot for me, he is not going to be a huge loss he is a long way away from being an 80 minute player. He is fast from dummy half but still has a hell of a lot of weaknesses in his game. I wish him all the best on his career because he seems like a decent human but he is not in the same class as Api and I don't think he ever will be. Invest in Haywood.

I’m not sure what the fixation on him not being an 80 minute player is. If you look around the league, you can count on one hand the amount of hookers who play 80 mins. And none of them are 20. It’s an irrelevant point at this stage of his career. And he may never be an 80 minute hooker, but he’ll still be in the majority.
