Tallyn Da Silva #270

Ha ha that restaurant still exists in five dock .. Simply the best...a Chinese restaurant was there the other week go for the chili beef

One of the most interesting nights I have had in a restaurant in I a long time and a tv was on and people watching the game

And the owner is a Chinese guy who says welcome home to everyone

And he's in his 70's and you have to experience it but he is everywhere all at once it's like time slows down felt like being in a time machine
There are those chinese restaurants still!

Did they have a giant lazy susan around a large round table?

The Golden Creek in Riverwood was where my Grandad took us. I thought it was "fine dining".
(in fairness to Chinese food, I absolutely love it now and get the effort put in to dishes like BBQ pork. But the stuff served was largely westernised).

Hmm.

I grew up in Macarthur and moved to Bankstown later. I always kinda idealized Campbelltown/Macarthur as a good part of sydney. Not as something rich but just a nice part.

I kinda wanted to escape bankstown, I kinda liked it. Right now I would be at home around Cabramatta with dirt cheap restaurants serving sydney's best food. In the naughties those restaurants had tiles broken and paint stripping off the sides. Now they have really nice but cheap refurbushments and
Sydney's best food.

Look, I get the intellectuals moving out. I get the people moving to the Cross or inner west for a different lifestyle. But we have boutique bars out west and affordible housing..
Sorry bro I grew up pretty much where you live . Even played for the 2 blues back in the day .
But I completely disagree . There was huge heroin issues , junkies everywhere from Guildford all the way through Liverpool and out to Campbelltown . Gang violence , an early adoption of us style gang culture And idolisation , this led to all kinds of things , like extreme violence around Sydney , the rise of middle eastern gangs , 911 led to racism which also peaked when the skaf boys raped that girl flat out for 48 hrs … mate and on and on and on it goes . To be fair the only people who wanted to stay , were usually of Mediterranean descent , and had strong family cultures and ties to the area . But even then they mainly live in the corridor along cowpasture rd , so Edmonton park down through Cecil hill , Bossley park etc.
Put it this way , not one person I was friends with growing up lives anywhere within 50km of that area . Most don’t even live in Sydney , including me .
With the Camden valley way communities , you can’t really include those people because the suburbs didnt exist 10 years , so the people moving into those areas have pre existing allegiances .
Which is a good thing now , where as much like Penrith have done with thier community and gentrification, these areas being built around Camden and narellan can offer a change , well at least a perception of one .
I’m just being completely honest . I think this is a root cause of our issues . And others like snidest have been more brutal about it , but IMO and it may be wrong , the kids who grow up in the Balmain district tend to have a stronger connection with the club . I think it’s because that area genuinely love the tigers . Maybe because the word “tigers” is an easy through point to 1908 , and Balmain tigers whilst horrendous for 8 years before they merged , didn’t go on long enough for time to ruin all the good work the teams of the 80s and 90s did . So it’s all nostalgia now .
Anyways , I always felt when I was a kid growing up out west it was a place to escape , for the reasons I just outlined . And I wonder how many kids still feel that .

Cmon...

Extreme violence around Sydney!
Extreme violence is when people pull bush knifes on you and your entire group.
The only thing worst then seeing a machette, is a bloody machete.

Look the Skip's moved up the coast because their children worked out that the beaches and lifestyle was better. I feared the whitebread cricket playing Yobbo's far FAR more then any Leb, Turk or anyone from overseas.
I mean that 100%. You had far more jerks with white skin then dark and I can pass as a skip.

Cabra was bad in the 90's. The viet's cleaned up their community.
Other then that you had small time gang activity and a lot of people that got an honourary song from the offspring.

Did you ever get to BBQ King in the city around 1-2am almost legs and fumbling your wallet ordering another beer then duck and mushroom soup and a mix pork platter and rice for 1 about an hour later start walking to central station for a night ride bus and having a peak at the Eros theatre as you walk past

What are you talking about man ? I’m not going to go into it … but race has nothing to do with anything other than they were the foundations for the rival gangs . You had 5t , Assyrian Kings , the Lebanese crime gangs that were running amok out of inner western Sydney . It lead to racial tensions , which boiled over once the skaf thing happened .
Then you also had Serb v cro brawls for what reason ? I dunno I’m not from there.
The jumping off point was the heroin shortage in Cabramatta lead to rival gangs especially around Fairfield and Cabramatta fighting for territory , which then obviously fed to Bankstown etc. a lot of those early gangs then went on to form and join bikie gangs .
There was constant brawls and violence and dudes getting stabbed and trolley polled , beatings , kids getting rolled.
You could avoid it ,, sure , but for some of us it was unavoidable .
And man you have zero idea what background I am ? Or anything about me .
Racial tensions were extremely high around the 2000-2004 mark in west Sydney . Everybody clinged to it like a badge of honour , and it led to all kinds of really bullshit from anyone between the ages of 16-25. Once the Cronulla thing happened and the fallout of that , the police took control and yea . I don’t really know post 2004 , as I left and wasn’t in Sydney anymore.
But it seems to have simmered down a lot , and I feel most people consider themselves Australian / whatever background they are . Which is a huge step from when I was a kid where you had 75% Anglo and 25% whatever , and they’d claim the whatever , because it was far more socially acceptable , and less likely to bring you trouble .
I’m happy that 25 years on everyone is becoming integrated , but that doesn’t change the fact at one point just prior to the olympics and a few years after , shit got out of hand with the racial politics in Sydney. Which definitely 💯 started with the heroin shortage of the late 90s.
Because at the time 70% of junkies were Anglo , because 70% of the country was . I mean I could go right into it … because for me it’s not anecdotal . It wasn’t just this thing happening . It yea it’s an interesting time in history .
And to my original point as an early 40s man , I wonder how much of that “I hate this shit hole, I can’t wait to leave “ mentality still exists . Because it definitely existed when I was a kid . And I spent a lot of time around different people from Liverpool through c town , through playing rep footy , socially , cousins etc .

Curran is on big money 650k+

Him or Kikau will be forced out very soon
There is no way Curran is on big money. He couldn't get a start at warriors when he was recruited and was only extended for 1 year.
I dare say his next contract would be decent but highly doubtful his current one is.

I have seen media reports too that Josh was recruited on a $650k contract. I know, surprising! If Bulldogs need to offload someone and happy to chip[ in $150K, he'd be great for our #13 role.
