Taylor

Well it's likely we'll be without Woods and Patty for this weekend. Along with Lodge, Nofo.. Not exactly at full strength. Hoeter likely to debut.

JT has us headed in the right direction but he needs to works on his use of interchanges. Need one of our starting props off by 20 odd mins to get a decent rotation going.

Also it appears the halves are struggling to adapt to JT's structured approach in attack. They're both quite instinctive players, as is Teddy, and JT seems to want players to reign in creativity in order to minimise errors. As they take time to adapt they are sticking to the structures too rigidly at the moment, and making passes which simply are not on. This combined with the bomb-focused kicking game just isn't how they've played most of their careers thus far.

Hopefully the Dogs game is a breakthrough performance combining both attack and defence. I think we've missed more tackles than our opponents in every game so far this season. Hasn't always led to points as the scrambling defence is there though.

Like most teams that will have players playing in SOO, we will have our work cut out for us. JT knows this and is planning for it. I don't think Sheens or Mick ever did that, so we really struggled at Origin time. Hopefully being prepared for it, we will do a lot better this year with out Robbie or Woods SC.

really thought we would have seen some of the roosters type plays from ours 1/2s by now, that is the most dissapointing thing our attack is going on where fast. but he seems to have got the ;D; going in the right direction.

I agree with the comments by Balmain Boy above. I am hoping the observation re the halves is correct and that once experience is gained and the structures become second nature, the flow of the attack will improve. Patience.

Its only 3 weeks in.

In week 3 last year we dismantled Souths 25-10.

Its a long season and around the halfway mark we will get a better indication if we are truly on the up.

A crushing loss this week and people will be saying same old Tigers.

Exactly. The time to judge Taylor is definitely not now.

I think Taylor has WT on the right track. The Souths game demonstrated commitment and drive. We were in it to the end which is all most of us asked against the reigning premiers. Taylor's a winner for mine.

True , but we were in many games last season with our full squad on the park

I like the defensive structures Taylor has in place but we are still making bad reads in defence which nullifies those structures in pressure situations

Our attack is structured but possibly too structured , apart from kicks we only have two plays , we go 2nd man 2nd man (which has been successful ) or hit the front man as the option

Would really like to see some more players running different angles and turning hard running back rowers inside off Brooks ,Moses and Tedesco to add some surprise element to our attack

I think Taylor deserves a 7/10 at the moment , but I would of given Potter the same score at this same stage of the season

Still a lot of hard work ahead of us :sign:

The test for Taylor and the team will be when we start missing a few players, especially the likes of Woods and Farah. Remember this time last year we smashed both Souths and Manly and were the talk of the town. I like what I see but I want to see how we are traveling after 12 weeks when the grind starts to take its toll

Depth, recruitment apparently will be a priority after this season….we have done nothing in this regard this off season....so I expect probably not too much when it comes to the crunch

As it stands at this early stage I cant complain...we are going OK with room for improvement...we saw the fluctuations we can expect with a team full of youth in the saints game....brilliant in the first half and sloppy in the 2nd

I agree that at this time the structures are limiting our attacking plays, but I think that is partly the point. The way I read the situation is, the halves in particular are learning the new structures as a basis for general percentage play. Once they have the structures down and everybody knows their role, I think the leash will come off and they can play what they see.

I'm far from an expert, but for mine, we've got two halves on L plates and the learning they are doing now will provide the framework for them truly taking control of the team and games in the future. Just my opinion. I'm prepared to be patient for a bit longer yet.

Your point is taken , but what happens when teams start closing us down

What options will Brooks and Moses go to then ??

Very low percentage plays would be the answer

I would of hoped by this stage we would of had at least 6 different plays we can utilize in the red zone exclusive from kicks

If we have them, we haven't tried them yet

I don't even think I've seen us turn an inside ball to Taupau on the fly late in a half from memory to see if the inside defenders are working

We need to look at isolating weak defenders as well with our more mobile big men

Agree, Walker got off very easily on Sunday. Broken hand and all. We should have been directing all traffic his way. Yet he demolished us single handidly. Literally. Massive oversight from our coaches on this one.

ST Iam sure they needled him up or at least hit with the numbing spray and with a lot of these breaks its not till you have cooled down and after the game till they become a problem.

Supercoach, i watched the replay last night and Walker was literally only using one hand out on the field! How we didn't have our entire forward pack steaming at him 2-3 times a set i have no idea. Maybe we're just too nice?

If a player is playing injured you go for the jugular and exploit it for all you can!!

He was catching the ball with one hand.

I noticed it as it was happening and i was on my 15th schooner.

I was screaming to run it at him…..

I'd have to watch again to see how much it hampered his defensive game. But we have previously made a point of running at injured players and I'm sure Farah and the likes would have noticed his injury.

This tells me that the team is doing its best to stick to a regimented plan. The coach would have good reason, maybe to make it second nature that the team operates a certain way.

It certainly is a long season. Look at the latest line-up the club has for this week. The youth policy isn't looking good. No need to wait for halfway through the season.
