Te Marie Martin --> Penrith

12-24 months ago Brooks and Moses were getting the same wraps this kid is getting now.

So the club made the decision that these two would be our long term future, which means Martin isn't a first choice starter. That's just the reality of it.

Having the youngest halves pairing in the NRL leading around the most inexperienced side in the NRL means that there will be a lot of hard days at the office. But they have both shown glimpses that with experience and a decent side around them they will win us more games than we will lose in the future. Most people with a clue tend to agree at this stage.

As for replacing Moses with Martin? Replacing an inexperienced 80 kg 5/8 who was a junior super star, with another inexperienced 80kg 5/8 who is a junior superstar, does not solve any of our current problems.

Great post. It's a damn hard rd we are traveling at the moment, but we live in hope the right decisions are now being made

There needs to be some kind of transfer payment to the club that brings the young kids up through the grades and then loses them to a rival club.

Tigers need quality young forwards, not more halves.

As good as Martin may turn out to be, Moses is the future for the team.

Well the club now has no money to buy quality young forwards and one of the reasons is because it receives no financial compensation for developing and then losing players like Martin.

What do we do? Sign Martin on a long deal while also have Brooks/Moses on long deals?

Its not fun seeing him leave but honestly, whats peoples alternative?

Like Blake, Martin did not see any future as a five eighth with Wests Tigers. Pretty sad state of affairs for our club.

Panthers sign Junior Kiwis playmaker

Penrith have announced the signing of young Kiwi playmaker Te Maire Martin on a three-year deal. Penrith Panthers have announced the signing of young Kiwi playmaker Te Maire Martin on a three-year deal. Martin, 19, will join the Panthers in 2016 after playing the last two seasons with the Wests Tigers NYC side.

“It feels great to have secured my future and I am already looking forward to training with my new teammates,” Martin said. “My big dream is to play in the NRL and I know having the opportunity to learn from Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace will really help me get there.”

It's interesting that at least part of leaving is to learn from experienced halves ahead of him.
He was not going to learn much here, and that's not a shot at our present halves, more our clubs policies, but it's plain that their not learning much themselves, so staying here would be counter productive, even without the clubs policy of locking ourselves into untried kids too early.
It's now been a part of the reasons that we have one excellent 5/8 gone, and now another one that even a lot of the pro Moses supporters says is a better proposition than Moses, gone too.
It's a big load that has been dumped on AYoung kid , who through no fault of his own was put too high , before he was ready

Just how many good halves do you think we've got Thunderlips, and where are we hiding them?

Good Luck to the Kid… Its just part of the tough decisions a football club has to make when they have 3 years of success at the junior rep level.

We cant keep them all, but surely there should be better benefits to those clubs which develop juniors?

Yeah well said Watto. I would have liked to have kept Martin, but with Brooks and Moses being a similar age I guess he figured he'd have a better shot elsewhere. Good luck to him.

Are we all confident weve backed the right players?

Not overly. I saw an earlier post somebody mentioned how tough Martin is compared to Moses. That's just a flat out crock of shit.

People seem to forget Moses was a great player in the younger years too. The simple facts are the NRL is one of the toughest competitions in any sport in the world, which makes it extremely difficult for young inexperienced players who are surrounded by the same, to dominate.

If we had a few more hard heads in the team to help guide them then I would be confident in the choices made. My fear is Brooks/Moses combo doesn't reach its potential due to the wrong mix around them. I also think it would be the same for Martin in this environment

Moses was as good if not better through out the juniors. Evidence of this is last years 20s SOO.

Can only speak for myself, but I was glad the club signed our current halves for an amount similar to that reported.

At the time a similar number of clubs to those reportedly recently chasing Martin, were on the hunt for them.

Let us hope that the decision turns out to be a great one, particularly in light of the escalating going rate for halves, which seems to be rising in line with the local housing market.

To the blokes putting crap on Mitch, even though JT has said publicly that he is intentionally shackling him and preventing him from playing his natural game at this stage, your still prepared to lay the boot into him?

If the same applied to Martin, do you think he would be fairing any better? Not on your life.

Martin won't be the last from that 20's side…

Who can blame them. They have a poor coach in Kimmorley and all they can hope to aspire to is being coached by Taylor in first grade and lose all of their attacking skills.

Only two questions are really important

Did we make him an offer?

How much did Penrith pay him?

From what ive been reading from both clubs statements i cant see that we have even made him an offer.

Luckily most of the 20s side is contracted for a little while.

And thank god we do produce a large amount of juniors. Imagine if we were a club like the Roosters or Storm who don't produce any local juniors but had the same salary cap problems. Can't buy players + can't develop players would be so much worse.

At least we have a conveyor belt of talent coming through to give us the odd potential star for our team!
