Team relocate

I would love to see a team formed in Central QLD. Taking an area from Rocky to the Sunshine Coast. That's untouched waters from any code and I think it's a gold mine waiting to be unearthed.

Hahaha
Sorry Chris but I had to get that out of my system.

Geoff Murphy was driving the CQNRL bid for many, many years. He arranged for the take over of the Brothers Leagues club to the CQNRL bid leagues club in Rockhampton. That club has now closed its doors.

He is in charge of the JM Kelly group which is in dire trouble at the moment. Initially he wanted the contract to build a new stadium in Rockhampton if CQ won the right for a new NRL licence.

The Cowboys and Broncos are both continuing to fight for Capricornia to be part of their feeder systems.

Chris the biggest concern for CQ to be a NRL team is the business support. There are no real big business that identify with this area. The Cowboys have torn the heart out of sponsors who CQ could ask for help. Toyota being the main one - everyone associates Toyota with country Queensland.

The other concern is getting good attendance numbers to any Rockhampton/Gladstone based NRL teams. The Cowboys and Broncos have huge support here and I don't see good crowd numbers or big end money for any team in this area. Not in my life time.

I haven't been in the area since I left QLD in 2009 so I'm guessing the landscape has changed dramatically. Would have been nice to have a team closer to home than what I have now. In saying that, I could win the Powerball here in the US some day and will back a Central Qld team…..lol

cq is right… The economy from Sunshine Coast to Mackay would simply not be able to sustain an NRL Franchise.

It must be in Brisbane the next Franchise for Qld. The number of corporate companies in Brisbane is staggering!

This thread is back from the dead!!!

However, it's timely that it's back. Because the people pushing the Perth relocation should open today's paper. After millions of dollars of investment, the Western Force rugby union team has been dumped from the top flight comp.

Wests are survivors like a witness if you like.
Good think for Balmain to be involved with them now the way things are as the WT.
In coming years now with the mining boom over and with a property crash the NRL would probably hunker down and concentrate on the "core" Sydney market.

No Perth tigers for Benny.

Central Qld is in a real downturn at the moment Chris

Sunshine Coast isn't a bad idea , but Ipswich or PNG has to be a priority and possibly Darwin

No one has tested the waters their and if you could get some of the talented kids that end up in the AFL to the NRL instead it could genuinely work

We also seem to have competitive home crowds. I recall highest home crowd average of all Sydney teams?

That being said we could move to Springfield and keep our name and brand. The Springfield developers would probably buy in and build a stadium for us as well. They are turning the entire suburb into a city and we would be close enough to Brisbane and Goldy for lifestyle and corporate purposes and pick up the Ipswich and Logan community.

And I could go to home games haha.

Don't we have huge television ratings? Or was I dreaming?

For about 30 minutes we do , then they drop off dramatically

Gardening Australia on the ABC ratings on Sunday arvo skyrocket in the 31st minute

I just need to work out how to get rid of excess water

Ark's coming along nicely , beard not so much

I think it would be great for the West Tigers to relocate to Bathurst.
Great place to live 10 drive from one side to the other cheap houses.
Plus I wouldn't have to join as an out of Towner.
I might email Greenberg in the morning.

I doubt the NRL would attempt to force out the Wests Tigers considering the sacrafices made in 1999, but I doubt they will come to the party financially anymore.

If we folded [which isnt likely while WA own the club], I'd say the NRL would take back the Name & Logo and look at alternative regions to place a new franchise. I'm also certain the NRL would offer huge incentives to relocate a current franchise from Sydney, so their are options.

But for now, I think we are safe!

Trouble is Watto , the only reason that we're safe now is that it's not on the immediate radar.
The main reason that the League do want a team in Perth is for the extra time zone, which makes sense for the TVs networks .
If we take out the WTs bias ,and ask who could the game do without, most people would have us at or near the top of the list, and this debacle with signings only demonstrates that.
I don't want to see us fold. (I've been that road before) or relocate just to placate the NRL.
If it comes we are better for it to be our choice
I believe that the Force has just folded.

The NRL dont have the kahunas to kick a team out, and any decision to change the landscape will be 100% commercial. It wont come down to what people think about current franchises and their viability, as the voting structure on the ARLC is weighted towards the existing clubs on this subject.

A Sydney club will need to close its doors, or put their hand up to move.

Relocation of a Sydney team to Toowoomba was my main point. Existing supported base with the addition of new supporters. More opportunities for sponsors and TPA's and recruitment.

I take your point though it doesn't compare to Perth, NZ or PNG. I just don't see any Sydney team relocating that far, apart from maybe Perth, but i wouldn't want my team spending 6 hours in a plane every second week.

As much as they want to talk about it, a new entity/team is along way off imo.

Keep believing that if it makes you feel better.
I don't know it will be us , but we are rock bottom with not many in the NRL firmly behind us. We won't be missed by the Rugby League world in Sydney,
We don't have a home ground , and roam from ground to ground for the sake of more dollars.
The sheen( I couldn't resist that) has well and truly gone from our one and only success in 2005\. It only took 6 months for that to happen, and we were back in our place again.

Some think that a genie will flyover and drop fairy dust around and we will be turned into the shakers and movers of Sydney RL.
Get used to it. There will be teams gone from Sydney in the next few years , not a long time.
We are a prime target , no matter what BS that the nrl put out.
Some of us don't see it , as we're emotionally involved, But…emotion won't come into it.
A team in Perth will need a lot of support dollars. and the right sort of sponsors. And a lot would have been learnt by the first RLTeam in WA.
Had SL not have reared its ugly head, The team would have had a better chance of surviving.

The whole of Sydney is overcrowded, with teams. And have been for a long time.
Don't kid yourselves. The RL would love to get rid of two or three teams in Sydney, and pour a bucket into a Western team , and put in the recourses that will be needed.

Had someone said before SL arrived, that the RL would split into two competitions, and cause all sorts of problems for the game, we would have thought that they had rocks in their head.
It Happened!!!!
So will rationalising the competition , and by the time that the next negotiations start for the TVRights. It will be under way. More time slots =more Dollars

That's not just a team problem,
The whole comp is almost falling apart. The Rugby Union have a big fat failure with that complete concept.
Has nothing to do with putting a properly financed RL team in the West.

From what I've heard up here, the Nrl want another team that will play out of Suncorp every second week. And Suncorp want the same. Big Bikkies for them
