Tedesco NSW SOO III fullback

Teddy was excellent except for one bit easy Qld try out to the left of the field early in the game - Teddy just went to have a look it seemed like but stayed well back and not get involved at all.

I assume you mean the one on one Moylan failed to shut down that was QLD first and only try in the first half.

Rep footy is a team sport. Ted didn't play as a member of the team at times out there….Had QLD won he would have copped some criticism for shutting down backline plays.

He'll learn that try assists mean just as much as tries scored at this level and when he does he'll kill it. The lesson must be learnt... NSW had all the ball and field position and had to come from behind to win as they butchered so many try scoring opportunities. Ted was one of the reasons why.

I think you're blaming Ted for what was the team's fault. Every commentator under the sun has said NSW played too lateral, but Tedesco played well.

I thought Teddy should have been part of a sliding defence or just getting out wide where the overlap was - he appeared just like a sticky beak. I grant him credit for contributing most towards winning the game BTW

Few short points

1 - Teddy will be an autopick from now on if healthy
2 - Three tigers seem to come through unscathed

I'm relieved / Happy we won and its a better result than game 3 last year.

For now I will remain optimistic till May 2017.

Glimmer of blue light

Depends what theory you prefer

Some coaches prefer you not straighten your attack until you get on your oppositions outside which usually creates an overlap , other prefer when you straighten the attack you change the angle

Option 1 is hard in SOO because of the lax offside rules usually employed

**Proud Tedesco stands tall on debut**

New South Wales Origin fullback is a tag James Tedesco should get used to following his rock solid debut in the Blues' 18-14 Origin III win over Queensland on Wednesday night.

Tedesco was one of NSW's best having made a whopping 260 metres and six tackle breaks, and he was almost the man who secured the Blues' late win on the tackle prior to Michael Jennings's 79th-minute match-winning try.

Only a last-gasp tackle from Maroons halfback Cooper Cronk prevented Tedesco from scoring a try on his Origin debut.

"I had the picture in my head leading into the game: a try on debut. To win the game for us, it would've been a fairy tale. My legs just didn't have it though," Tedesco told NRL.com of his late charge towards the tryline.

"I was that buggered by the end of it. I did my best to get the quick play-the-ball though and when I saw Jenko get over, even though I was too rattled to celebrate, it was a pretty awesome feeling.

"I knew the Queenslanders would have been scrambling and if we spread it wide we would've had our opportunity. We kinda did a Queensland on them, scoring in the last minute to win the game, so it was pretty special."

Sporting a fat lip and a bloodied nose in the aftermath of his debut, the reality of Origin football hit Tedesco hard.

Tedesco remained a cool customer under plenty of adversity at the back and credited Wests Tigers teammate Aaron Woods for what he described as an unperturbed build-up prior to throwing on his maiden sky blue jersey.

"I was thinking it might have been full-on all the time but we just did our thing at training and relaxed when we could. Being with Woodsy, it helped me relax myself as much as I could which definitely got me through the week," Tedesco said.

"Even before the game I was chilled out. I watched TV all day and it was quite relaxing until it was time to run out.

"Woodsy made me get up the front of the line – I think I was the second bloke down from Gal (retiring skipper Paul Gallen) running out there – and it was a feeling I'll never forget. It was truly a great experience."

The 23-year-old would've been forgiven for thinking his Origin debut wouldn't come in 2016 after a fractured shoulder blade threatened to ruin his season one week out from representative round in late April.

Tedesco said he strived for positivity in his five weeks of recovery with his representative chances seemingly dead and buried for the year.

"Obviously it was a disappointing setback and pretty bad timing overall," he said.

"My main focus was to get back to playing good footy for the Tigers. I worked so hard every day to get back.

"So to get this opportunity and get the win, I'm pretty proud of myself about it all."

He was involved in the tackle before

1\. James Tedesco

Showed enough in 80 minutes to suggest the No.1 jersey will be his for many years to come. It was his supporting break that paved the way for Michael Jennings' match winning-try. Tedesco made more metres than any other player with 258 and looked lethal whenever he got the ball in space. Supported his forwards through the middle and created several half-chances on the fringes with his speed. 8.5/10

Herald rated him an 8 - highest rating NSW player. Does that make him the best NSW player on the night?

I wouldn't have argued against that Gary

NSW weren't great despite the win

To take 79 plus minutes to win with the possession advantage they had , proves they weren't great

If the possession flow had been reversed , imagine the carnage

It's a strange situation , Game 1 I thought NSW were the better side and even at the stages of Game 2 NSW looked the better side and lost both

Game 3 NSW look rudderless at time with a massive possession advantage yet get the win

Agree Happy…...I am sad to say it and I do not want to be guilty of Farah bashing, because his defensive game is so strong.....but there is no zip anymore, his passing is slow, not always accurate and predictable, anyway D/h is where it all starts from and that is one of the reasons NSW attack last night was so poor. They did not play direct enough and often just swung it wide on a wing and prayer.

Moylan will be a great no6 or 7 with a few more games under his belt and Maloney was good without being brilliant, but as you said happy if QLD had as much ball they would have racked up 50

I wouldn't be basing the world on Moylan's performance , if you didn't look good with all that ball , you never were going to

Secondly you would want Penrith to play him at 6 in my opinion

Moylan should be used as a super sub ala Craig Wing. He isnt good enough as a starting 5/8th at this level but does have the spark that can turn a game
Teddy should keep the number one unless Hayne hits the ground running and slots back in where he left off. He will come good with a better coach than bone head Daley who left the box to sulk over the loss only to hear the crowd roar whilst sitting in the dressing rooms….
Josh Jackson was easily NSW player of the series.

As for the QLDers, not a terrific series from them but good enough to come within one minute of a clean sweep which shows NSW has a LONG way to go. Funny series from both sides really. Better side lost game 1, game 2 was pretty even with the marginally better side winning and arguably the better side lost game 3\. Very hard to predict next year based off last night but with 2 home games the Maroons seem in the box seat.

Hard to do much with the ball when every single qld tackle is illegal. Honestly if QLD made 200 tackles they hold down in 180 of them.

I rekon Hayne will slot right back in the #1

Both should be in the team with Hayne having played at centre & wing in rep footy previously whereas Teddy is best suited to fullback.

QLD's defense was stifling. They seemed to always be in NSW's face (likely offside) and then holding down for ages. Made any sort of attacking momentum difficult.

Tedesco sealed the number one jumper for the next decade his defence was great.
He will get there in attack but we need quicker play the balls and faster service from dummy half.

NSW need a Granville type no 9 to come off the bench and smoke the QLD with speed, but I do not think we have one. As another person posted, maybe Moylan could come on and play the role Craig Wing did for the blues.

NSW look to have plenty of young players on the horizon so maybe some good years are not far away especially with a lot of QLD players have nearly hit the end of the road
