Tedesco NSW SOO III fullback

Rep footy is a team sport. Ted didn't play as a member of the team at times out there….Had QLD won he would have copped some criticism for shutting down backline plays.

He'll learn that try assists mean just as much as tries scored at this level and when he does he'll kill it. The lesson must be learnt... NSW had all the ball and field position and had to come from behind to win as they butchered so many try scoring opportunities. Ted was one of the reasons why.

Teddy is the man. Never missed a ball. Got smashed all night. Kept the defence second guessing. Comes up with a great run at the end when the game is all but over and gets pulled down just sort. Doesn't panic, doesn't try a double movement but instead keeps his cool and gets up quickly to play the ball. NSW swing it wide and Jennings goes into score the match winner.

Teddy is the NSW fullback.[/quote

Yes doesn't go for the double movement I think every other NSW player would have gone for it and got pinged for it …It was up there with the best plays of Smith Cronk and Thurston his cool won them the game special player

Not sure if i was watching the same game. What opportunities did he butcher. The reason he didnt pass the ball out and got tackled a few times was because nothing was on. Caught almost every kick that came to him on the full, brought the ball back with speed, saved a try and almost scored 2\. For a SOO debut thats pretty good. Got a 8.5/10 player rating on the NRL website.

In the first 40 especially he played selfishly. He had blinkers on and didn't even look for support. The people I was with were upset with him at half time and I gotta say I agreed with them. He kept running his outside men out of room and they weren't too happy but more importantly he became one dimensional as he wasn't looking to link up with them.

Apart from that he played well but it was concerning.

I think he did much better than Moylan in both his games at fullback. There is definitly room for improvement but we have to remember its his debut game. I think if he mark him as a debutant , making no errors, and 258m i think its a job well done.

Treadmill Teddy just hasn't got the legs once he gets over that 30-40m mark. This wasn't the first time i have noticed it either. Still his acceleration off the mark is lightning though.

BS he didn't look for support, look at where he got the ball. He can't just manufacture room out of nothing. He played smart in not pushing things that weren't on. It may not look glamorous but it's better than turning over cheap ball hoping for a miracle. I also never noticed Dugan actually change up his line to go inside Teddy when he was being jammed either.

NSW ran the same attacking plays that Qld had prepared for and then didn't improvise when they were being repelled. That's not on Tedesco.

I thought he played a bit safe on his debut - safer than he plays club footy which is understandable in an origin debut. Probably didn't want to make any mistakes. He could've passed to furgoson for a try in the first half but apart from that he played very well.

I said one of the reasons.

Let me put it this way if Tedesco wasn't playing NSW would have lost, NSW would display the same lack of strike power as NSW have been showing for some time. QLD find it easy to contain NSW for the reasons I gave before. NSW have been playing like that for all but one year in the last 11\. Tedesco changes that dynamic. The only reason there was backline movement was because Tedesco pulls in the defence, they target him and it gives others more time. But NSW problem has been for years the lack of bodies in motion and the lack of support play and players sitting back getting ready for the next set. NSW have been to predictable and QLD could defend that sort of play all night. With Tedesco there they can't do that any more.

Also lets not forget about his great defence, he saved a certain try earlier in the first half.

Take your tiger glasses off. He played for himself and NSW backline didn't look like scoring as a result on quite a few occasions. With that amount of ball, field position and a lop sided penalty count, the blues should have comfortably won.in the end they were lucky to.

Yes Mike I agree. However he didn't play that way tonight. He drew defenders and didn't pass the ball. He tried to run around guys who had his measure. In the end he had no tries or assists and no line breaks nor assists. This is despite having all the ball and many many touches. I don't think he has locked down that no.1 just yet.

He didn't draw outside defenders so why would he have passed the ball? They targeted him hard from the inside and committed to him. Short of brushing 2 or 3 rushing defenders he wasn't going to break the line himself, he needed an option back on the inside to stop the rushing slide. It was inept coaching where they just planned the most obvious ploy and then didn't tweak it to adjust for Queensland predicting it, which they were always going to do.

Bird provided this inside option once in the 2nd half but you're right, too predictable, not enough bodies in motion. Almost like Laurie's game plan was "give it to Teddy".

I thought Teddy played pretty well, never gave up supporting the ball, safe at the back & took the smart option of taking the tackle at the end of his almost try scoring last play. Yeh he could've passed the ball to Ferguson in the 1st half but no guarantee he wouldn't have been pushed over the sideline.

Just hope he didn't pick up any injuries & comes back to the Tigers an even better/wiser player.

All of the above plus he looked like he belonged. Not overawed or gun shy.
We all should be proud of him.
