Roosters starting to make us look good

The way this year is going in the nRL might as well let the Panthers and Melbourne play the GF now and then let everyone have their own comp to crat some interest.
Never had such a lopsided competition..

Agree. Everyone is so obsessed with who is signing with who with out looking at the quality of the game. When a Roosters team-( granted weakened) but still with the likes of Teddy JWH Crichton Morris Manu Tupou etc gets smashed by 46 points to nil and not the first time this year - then there is a problem. Clubs can't continue to massive contracts for players to have it a two horse race.

It is the most lopsided comp I have ever seen in 54 years of watching rugby league. The changes over the last two years , the TPAs, and players wanting to play for winning teams due to there being no loyalty these days have led to this rubbish.

Agree.
Not many ways to fix it.
The one I think needs to happen is rewarding clubs for developing juniors.
I am not sure how it would work but the junior club should be discounted in the salary cap some how so the likes of Roosters or Souths don't just poach the good ones when they need them.. If you look though there teams they have poached the cream of the crop and not having to spend all this extra money on developing them unlike us or Panthers as an example.

I can confirm we are definitely out of the race for TPJ he’s manager is asking $800000 plus, good on the club for not paying overs. We have learnt from our mistakes.

I know I'll probably get shot down ...but I reckon Taumalolo might still have his nose out of joint

But is he still worth 1 million a year .....

I would throw that 700k plus more at him

He is on a million a year now, about 5 years in to a 10 year deal

Any news on other targets?

Bulldogs have offered 750k a season to TPJ. TPJ is said to prefer the Tigers or Dragons over the dogs and informed his manager to ask both clubs to get closer to the dogs offer. During informal discussions a figure of 600k a season was all but agreed, which is why the club has walked away.

This is a bizarre one by the dogs, considering the money they have tied up in some of their other recruits. JAC is signed on for 600k a season rising to 750k if he plays a certain amount of games at fullback, Naden and Allan on 400k+ and Cotric on 500k. Not to mention they're paying 350k of DWZ contract for next season.

They seem to be getting themselves in a bit of mess with the cap going forward. Heard there is a bit of discord over there as not everyone in the recruiting process has been informed of agreements and dont see eye to eye on targets (TPJ & Johnson). Some seem to be of the view to get any talent over there for any price where a others want to target certain positions and be diligent in how they organise their cap for future years and build the team.

Signing TPJ would all but end their hopes of signing B. Smith. They also have a tricky situation where Burton will be available to negotiate from November 2022 and would be due a hefty pay rise.

Yes they got Burton at a bargain rate, I wondered if their was a trigger clause or an out, looks like he has both going on what you are saying

According to some on here we didn't miss Signing him as we "pulled out" fact is another player who did not want to come here.
I am glad we missed him at the price

Thanks for the update.

Brandon Smith will likely be able to get whatever price he wants from the new QLD team soon enough, so maybe that is why the Dogs are giving up on him. Fairly sure his family are all up there also?

Chances of a new qld team getting added in 23 are surely decreasing every day. The comp is in disarray.

But with the clowns currently overseeing the most lopsided and boring season ever who knows what stupid decisions they'll make next.

Common sense says delay a decision on a new team for another 5 years.

Absolute nonsense to think we had 'doubts' about him at this stage. Everyone knows who he is.

Reality is the Dogs are sitting there with that offer the Pom mentioned and they have snuck in yet again to take one off us whilst we jogged on the spot.

Burton
JAC
TPJ

They invariably get their man, we don't...

Us saying "have doubts, we are out" is saving face. Nothing else.

This x 1000,000, we are if nothing else but consistent in not being able to get the deal done on good players, I still say the coach is a turn off

Do you really want to commit that much to him? Haven't we been burnt enough? Don't get me wrong, I wanted him and from CCTW said, he wanted us, but not at any price.

agree we dont want to do that but we have missed out on signing him some like to think when we pull out and they go elsewhere then that's ok because we pulled our offer like Latrell and JAC fact is we still missed the signature

Some sensible comments coming through on this thread. Sure we wanted him but at our price. Nice to see recruitment judging a players worth and not prepared to go overs. That builds financial stability into our cap, something we haven’t had for a long time if ever.

What is V'Landy's doing about players in the process of transferring from their club and using weaker teams using Wests tigers as a bargaining chip to greater riches?

"TPJ is said to prefer the Tigers or Dragons over the dogs", if this in fact true, then we didn't miss him, he just wanted more than we wanted to pay? If you look at the dogs, they will be in serious trouble if they don't fire from the get go?

I think it’s a great move by the club, we have Adam Hartigan that was very successful at the Roosters and believe whatever decision they make is the right one. The club was keen on TPJ but I’m with the club with TPJ asking price

Exactly, end result is he didn't sign our offer, did he really get a $750k offer from the Dogs, or was he just trying to jack his price up with us.
But same old story, we look great when we are the only club chasing a player, as soon as any other club enters the market, we miss out
