Keep your logic in the COVID thread.

Looks like the desperate and dateless...which cld be true...

You have no idea why they went up there, if they indeed did go up there to talk, and it doesn't matter anyway.

Officially at the time, no matter who from Tigers went anywhere, TPJ was in no position to negotiate or agree to anything - he was not given permission by Broncos.

And the player himself said he never met with the club at the time - that's the only official record we have.

In fact, even if it played out exactly as you say, it's good management. It's proactive management. You make your first approach in force, show them you are serious, see if you can get the jump on your rivals.

The alternative is to be like Bulldogs, late to the party and forced to pay extras, above already struggling sides, to get signatures.

No business sends their top 3 execs only to return home empty handed...unless its a junket rewarding for them for their respective outstanding performance in 2021...cough
Something went seriously wrong IMO,and my speculation is the most likely

That happens all the time.

Glad Im not working in yr industry!!
We do the deal verbally, one guy max to get it across the line with a signature..
If convincing or haggling is required it shld have been done beforehand over fone/zoom...3 top execs in any organisation have other things to do,and if they havent...we dont need ALL of them!

**I respect the way the Tigers stance on this matter however were gonna need to land a big fish soon...**

I don't think a big fish is our way out of this mess.

both agree and disagree. Juniors is our actual way out but unless we also get a big fish who can convince other players that were a good club any talented juniors we develop will leave as they start to excel and we will remain stuck in a rut.

I think we are extremely unlikely to get the big fish

Is Finucane a big fish?

I guess if he was in fact a fish, he'd be a reasonably big one. :fish:

Yeah, the one that got away.

30mins? Have the Tigers relocated to Byron?

Sorry to doubt you mate, that is a very sensible and sustainable idea. I can t imagine how that wouldnt work.

Lucy made a few good runs and those 2 linebreaks but it was overshadowed by his defencen and the dropped ball and unessential passes after each break that turned posession

Yeah we do it on bids all the time, send our top dogs when we get down to the final few candidates. And about half the time we lose purely on cost, i.e. we can't get our budget cheap enough. We won't undercut our bid substantially unless we are desperate to win work in that indication, and even then it's like a 5% discount.

Very similar to the Pangai situation.

It's hard to respect this stuff my brother.
I'm at a loss, in regards to... not the team but the current playing group.

I've loved this team since i was a little kid.
It's just really defeating when you follow something and love something so much and in return it does nothing but bring you disgust and heart ache.

Probably a bit of a stretch with common sense.... after his selection track record.

But a wise man who knows how to manage a team and bring through the youth when needed...

Don't forget he blooded Benny Murdoch Masila in a finals game and he played well..

So apparently the Wests Tigers did a background check on Tevita Pangai jnr and, despite courting him since February, suddenly just realised on Thursday night that he wasn’t a good fit for the club.

LOL. You couldn’t get better spin out of a day-five deck in Mumbai.

NRL Highlights: Souths hold off a resilient Tigers effort to win at Leichardt - Round 16

The Tigers host the Rabbitohs in round 16 of the NRL

Was the background check done before or after they verbally offered his manager a two-and-a-half year deal worth $600,000 last week?

Was it before or after whispers began circulating late on Thursday that Pangai was more interested in joining Trent Barrett and the Bulldogs?

No one would begrudge the Wests Tigers, especially given their recent history in over-paying recruits, for making a business decision not to spend a certain amount of money on a player renowned for his inconsistency.

But to have a senior member of the organisation actively reach out to the media late Thursday night in a bid to save face speaks volumes of the club’s paranoia around a perception in rugby league circles that no one wants to go to the Wests Tigers.

At 10.02pm on Thursday night, after the Melbourne Storm had put the cleaners through the Sydney Roosters, Herald league reporter Christian Nicolussi took to Twitter following a conversation with someone at the club to reveal the Tigers had pulled out of the pursuit.

“Take it as fact,” Nicolussi posted. “Wests Tigers not in for Tevita Pangai Jr. They’ve done their homework and convinced he’s not a good fit for them.”

Had Pangai agreed to the $600,000-a-season deal, one finds it hard to believe this ‘homework’ the Tigers did would have prevented him from joining the club immediately.

Whether Pangai ends up at Canterbury or stays at Brisbane is irrelevant. Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe and coach Michael Maguire have now been left at the altar too many times and are desperate to avoid looking out of their depth.

How many more times can they convince fans that smart business, not a shortcoming in the club's recruitment ability, is the reason for not landing a player?

Perception is reality, and as a result established players at rival teams aren’t in a hurry to jump into bed with the club unless there is no other option.

They’ve recruited well when it comes to young talent - with Daine Laurie, Stefano Utoikamanu and Shawn Blore impressing - but it’s a strategy that has been forced upon them due to the reluctance of the game’s bigger names to link with Maguire at the Tigers.

The only two players they’ve signed for next year, Super League duo Jackson Hastings and Oliver Gildart, are both managed by the same player agent who has become increasingly attached to Maguire, as some at the club have noticed.

Maguire has been at the helm of the Tigers for three years. Some would argue the club has gone backwards during that time.

Sunday’s loss to the Rabbitohs only adds to the pressure on Maguire to keep his job. No doubt someone will use the second-half performance as justification as to why they still believe in the coach and that it’s the players’ fault.

‘Garbage’: Maguire fumes and says ‘men’ needed to turn Tigers around
It's unlikely anything will happen in regards to Maguire's future before Tim Sheens arrives later this month to run his eye over the club.

Maguire was brought to the Tigers to instil a resilience and toughness that has been lacking at the club for some years, yet after 16 weeks he has presided over the worst defensive team in the club’s history, conceding more points per game than ever before. Five wins from 16 games is also one of the club's worst starts to a season.

Things are equally grim at the Bulldogs, however the difference between the two clubs is that within a few months of taking the job, Barrett has been able to offer fans some light at the end of the tunnel through his recruitment. Matt Burton, Josh Addo-Carr, Brent Naden and now perhaps Pangai jnr are all heading to Belmore.

All the Tigers have been able to offer is the nostalgia of Sheens' return. It's hard to see the light if you're a Tigers fan. There’s only so long club officials can keep blaming Ivan Cleary.

Interesting comments

Someone said Tigers pulled out because TPJ was asking 750k which includes his TPA that haven't been paid.

Chammas says he's doesn't disagree.

So hes asking toi much and we pulled out.

Then says - Tigers are dreaming if they think players don't talk.

I still think the players who don't want to play under madge, aren't the players we need at WT at the moment.
