Like any player that starts shining in first grade, the second season is critical. Austin and many of that Canberra team will be on team's defensive radars next season.

When Moses turns into the superstar he's being groomed to be, all you Austin apologists be prepared to eat your words.

In this moment in time is what his being judged on and his better than Moses by the length of the Flemington straight .

No one isn't wishing Moses not to be a star or the best player in the game down the track , some people are just saying that Austin should of been retained and there's nothing to apologise about either .

And on top of that we almost lost Tedesco who is our only top quality young player atm.

Its a Balmain centric mentality in which Sironen, Brooks, Moses are retained almost without question while while Austin goes along with Fifita teddy nearly lost losing time resigning Simona and Lafai and previously Hayne get picked up by other clubs.

It seems if your a Balmain junior you can almost get a life contract atm regardless of ability.
And all this talk of spiritual homes and we can't win a game there lately.
People criticised benji but for all his faults helped deliver a comp and a cult persona for the club while now we are a nothing team.

It seems though you have never bought into the Joint venture , you continue to want to bring this Wests vs Balmain trash talk of yours .
Balmain have a time frame to meet there financial obligation if they don't meet it there History . Let it rest seriously .
Then people wonder why our supporters a so dis functional .

As for buying into the JV It wasn"t what I wanted but accept It and personally I wouldn't want Balmain to loose their stake in the club cause of their issues. Fairs fair.

But as for not buying into the JV you may want to ask the people from the Balmain side speaking on the" merge with Parra thread" crap if they bought into it.

Sounds as if they have already sold a stake they don"t own!

Another great WTs decision, ( shown up again ) although some say he went because he wanted more money, I'd be more inclined to think that it was the fact that he was told he would not be used at 5/8.
That decision should win a prize among the litany of stupid decisions made here.
Thanks for guaranteeing a spot to a small , under prepared player , who has shown very little over this season. The fact that he knows the position is his no matter what , may be the very thing that is hindering his development in that position

Both players should have been told that the position would go to the one that showed they deserved it . Whilever we keep having blinkered thinking like this , we will keep getting the results that we deserve.

Dont know where you get that idea from. It was simply a notion suggested by ONE forum member. No substance - no point. It would never be a merger anyway - it would be take over which is all they were interested in when Wests and Balmain were looking at their options as single entities. Pointless discussion.

When you say it's not what you wanted ? what would of you preferred seeing the Magpies in Reserve Grade ? Balmain made the cut to the Comp at the time , the Magpies would of been History but there is no doubt that Balmain would of eventually been extinct as well as they are broke .

So when you say you had no choice you would of much preferred watching your side in Reserve Grade like Newtown ?

If i'm being honest i am so sick of this subject on this Forum , i don't care for Wests and i don't care for Balmain .
People need to get past it cause it will be 20-40 years before we perish and our kids and future generations won't need to worry about this Balmain vs Wests mentality we have in our Club.

Yeah i am all for not forgetting our past identity and how we came together….but is there a real need to throw tit for tat jibes at our own Club supporters that they claim to be so passionate about?

Well there are a number of things going on.

1\. Do we hold a bloke to a minimum wage contract if he can get good coin elsewhere? Sure we could have some may argue we should have but would it have been the right thing?
2\. Austin is the dominant half down there. The half back does bugger all. For Austin to achieve that for us we're basically holding back Brooks being a dominant half. Okay maybe short term that works but long term is it the best?
3\. Of course there is the question of Moses and whether he's better off learning the job in the NRL or NSW Cup.
4\. He had a few games for us and we still got smashed. Just because he's doing well at Canberra is no guarantee he'd be doing the same for us.
5\. Like Fifita and others before him he's gone and probably not coming back. You think the Dogs still beat themselves up about Thurston? No they draw a line and worry about the next season.

As I said I don't think it was about money, just this clubs stupid decision to gift the 5/8 position to a rookie who was unproven in first grade. Regardless of whether he was the best player for the spot.
There is no reason that he wouldnt play as well at 5/8 for us as well. Last year he covered most positions well, and most agree was one of the better players.
I don't give a hoot whether he was the dominant half or not. I think that Brooks would learn more from playing with him than his his current 5/8Losing Fifita wasnt comparable to Austin.
Fifita was a Mug at that time and had his share of behavioural problems and was better off gone, Austin was an entirely different person and was the sort of person that we wanted( ( (. according to quite a few comments last year)
I realise that the ship has sailed, but it is just one more dyslexic decision that this club makes on a regular basis. This one we may regret a lot more over the next couple of years. While there should be consequences for non performance on the field, so too, there should be consequences for non performances off the field as well.
But there's not.

I was so disappointed that the club didn't do a lot more, to try and keep him here.
Blake was our shining light in 2014\. It doesn't surprise me one iota, that this young man is killing it in his prefered position.

The big difference here is that most of those clubs are generally successful ones, unlike WT. I.e they make the finals more often than not.

Recruitment and retention is always going to be hit and miss at any club, but some are smarter than others and we are the dud of the class, just like many other key areas.

Don't you think that's just a bit easy to say? I quoted several clubs off the top of my head, but you can put positive and negative recruitment stories forward for all clubs.

How does one qualify as a "successful club"? Current position on ladder? Total # premierships? Total # finals appearances? % all games won? % finals games won?

A finals appearance in most years shouldn't be too much to ask. Finishing in the top 8/16 teams isn't a monumental task.

If we are being honest making it 50% of the time and winning it rarely is a reasonable expectation. Every other club is also trying to do the same thing.
