The Cleanout

When this season began we were installed as premiership contenders. Why ? well because we apparently had great squad depth and went so close last year and had not lost any players and the squad should only improve…. Well ok we have had injuries and they have been good players we have lost for extended periods BUT our vital players Benji,Farah ,Heighno have been on the field 90% of the time. We cannot say that origin has had any effect either. So what has gone wrong ??? I have been a strong supporter of the Sheens regime since he came on board but I am quickly losing confidence . If Kevin Moore and his Bulldogs have underperformed then what about Tim and his tigers ? We are not winning games and apart from the win over the Warriors we are playing a style which in my opinion is one of the worst in the comp.If we dont make the top 6 i really think Sheens performance really needs to be reveiwed and I am surprised that other coaches seem to be getting the media pressure they have when Tiger Tim should be the one under the pump .This cleanout is really confusing all of the supporters and it does not make any sense at this stage of the season .Why did we sign alot of our players to long term deals and then turnaround within 6-12 months and try to piss them off ? I think Farah needs to pull his finger out and start leading the team like a captain he has been really disapointing this year and his body languauge even worse. Benji has been affected by the court case without a doubt. And Tim Moltzen either needs to START at half or fullback , Lui has been poor and cannot keep his place on current form. This year has easily been the most frustrating year as a supporter and the players owe it to the supporters to come home strong. DO NOT LET HEIGHNO GO PLEASE DONT. In Sheens we trust but time is running out quickly :sign: :brick:

No Happy Tiger I didn't say Fifita was worth 300k. Not at all. I said I would like to keep him at the Tigers, but I didn't say I would pay 300k for him. I would rather spread that money around, keeping a mutlitude of other worthwhile players on board, which I believe is what's happening.

Well to keep him that was the figure we would of had to pay Either this year or the next 900 k for 3 years to Sharks was the reported deal

I agree with you pezza I think there's been a number of factors that have caused the Tigers to have such a turbulant season thus far and now player movement is causing even more drama. It started with injuries to key players and then it has just rolled on from there. I sometimes stop and wonder though, is it drama causing them to be so unsettled or is it merely the fact that we're just that good. Yes we have Marshall, who is a great player in his own right, but who else is there in our team that come close to that level ? Lawrence and Farrah are probably the only other two, but I'm slowly coming to realise that Farrah isn't much more than an above average 1st grader and not the top shelf player I once thought he might be. Who else do we have in vital positions on the field that are game breakers, players that can provide that spark or intimidate opposition. Galloway is coming on better all the time, but there's only so much one prop can do. I think we need a top level halfback and fullback and 3 imposing, intimidating props.

Thankyou Tigersmurf and Ellis. The best forward if not the best player we have running around for us at the moment. My young bloke would have crucified me for leaving him out.

Reason for the cleanout?
I'm only guessing but I reckon its one or both of the following reasons:

1) Massive salary cap stuff up. But as others have said, how can it be so big and why try to sign Blair.

2) Sheens wants a "cultural" change. I don't know these blokes personally but the ones going or being told to find better offers are the ones that are perceived as the jokers (Gibbs,Fulton,Ryan, maybe Heighno?).
Maybe he wants a more focused team dynamic.
Again I'm only guessing.

of the players who are off contract at seasons end tigers should look to sign some of the following:
shaun johnson
adam blair
tony williams
wes naqaima
sika manu
greg bird
william zillman
sandor earl

dont re sign: moors flanagan brown & maybe daniela
get rid of: fulton, lui & maybe moltzen
& give young blokes such as: mullaney, simona, groat, murdoch-masila etc a go

we have to have a cleanout if we dont we would basically have the same squad for 3 yrs (2010-2012). and the way that the game has evolved in recent yrs with the wrestle in the ruck the team as a whole has to change and with that tactics and personel would need to change to maintain a level of competitiveness. look at the top 5 this yr big and mobile arent affraid to get physical and do the hard yards. a cleanout will be good for the players that remain as new players will bring new ideas and challenge the ones that do stay.

In the above linked article, Humphreys denies outright that Heighno has permission to negotiate with anyone, including English clubs.

The other thing that has changed since most of the player deals were originally put in place and the comments everyone is quoting were made is that sheens has moved from a 1 year deal to 3 years.
That change in dynamic may well have made him re-think what he wanted for the next few years.

Although I think there's also a component of fixing a salary cap stuff-up in there too.

Going by the decisions that have been made in recent weeks and comparing them to late last year and early this year, something has occurred that was not anticipated.

the options
1) A cap stuff-up
2) We've signed another marquee player like Dugan and need to offload
3) Sheens shat himelf after seeing our team get totally outmuscled by teams like the broncos, and thinks we really need to size-up quick. (this would explain trying to offload Moltzen and Fults, but not Heigho)

Weve been getting outmuscled for years.

The bigger teams like Penrith have always bothered us, but it was different this year to see an average size team like the broncos out muscle us.

You're right there Masterton. Funnily enough though, we've dominated Canberra, beat Penriff and dominated Souffs with their big boppers playing (funnily enough we got beat by Souths without Burgess, Asotasi et al out.)
