The Cleanout

If they're right to clean out the club now, then they were wrong before. Why were Gibbs and Fulton re-signed in the first place? It looks like an arse-saving exercise!

For mine, Dwyer is as unfulfilled potentially as Fifita, with neither as valuable as Heighington at the moment. Lui is a basketcase and Moltzen either needs to be given a go or let go. Sheens is too conservative and persists long after patience should be exhausted.

Instead of looking at player's positives, what about their negatives? Dwyer bludges out wide so others have to take up the slack. Same with Fifita although it's guesswork whether he'll come good or fade into obscurity.

The proof is in the pudding but the way it's been handled so far I wouldn't be surprised if they actually do let go 7 players for Blair!! Time will tell…

here we are 3 weeks after we were told there would be information given out and yet nothing we still dont know we have signed blair or anyone else. all we know is we will be choping players.

Unfortunately alf and most of the rest of you have missed the point.
A lot of this should have been started years ago - before we got into this situation.
Last year was one out of the box - the team played above their ability towards the end of the year.
Funny thing is - if we HAD won the comp would so many players be getting the chop?
The real reason might be that it gives Sheens the perfect answer for another few years of the Tigers going nowhere - we are rebuilding almost an entire team blah blah blah.
I really hope I'm wrong and there's a few more (or at least one) big name signings to be announced.
Somehow I don't see the cleanout as a Sheens revelation but more as a way to keep his paycheck coming in with less scrutiny.

Had to laugh in this mornings tele Phil Gould said the Tigers offered him several players in the past week so what is going on! Maybe some sought of statment soon .

Ryan and heighington will be at penriff next year. What wt will look like in 2012 god only knows..

AHH a breathe of fresh air in here was reading these posts and it is amazing to see that some in here think they now what is happening and who is going where.

The reality none of us know what the reasoning is but one thing is very clear the current squad would struggle to win a primiership. No doubt they can make the eight but lack certain elements to go all the way.

Change is healthy and I applaud the club for making the hard calls necessary for our future success, no doubt some unpopular but nothing ventured nothing gained I say.

Lets hope it all becomes clear to us all very soon, so noone needs to make more assumptions and :blah :blah :blah

If they play for each other - they are capable of beating ANY team in the comp.
However, if they play like they are playing for individual contracts for next year - forget it start planning for 2012\. These guys have to be mature enough to think longer term not short term and do the best for EACH other this year !

Yeah, have to agree with that. They keep blabbing on about how much the team is a 'band of brothers' or whatever, yet they certainly aren't showing that sort of commitment to each other on the field!

Clear?
Its the same squad as last year where we were 1 point from a GF…..yet all of a sudden six months later theers a sudden change of heart..."we need size" blah blah :blah :blah
The AGM in Feb it was revealed no marquee players were sought for this year instead they decided to "focus on reinforcing the stability within the playing roster"
Theres a lot of BS coming from Concord....you dont need to be einstein.
Theyre not getting this mugs money next year

Agree. It's all speculation at this stage. I'm a Sheens fan but I have to admit that his record over the last few years has been pedestrian. But, his playing roster has been worse. I really don't think it is his fault.
I don't mind if we trade players for upgrades in positions that we need help in. We have a serious no. 7 problem and another issue at the back… ffs - no one in our team ever goes to diffuse bombs! it is embarrassing. Every time a bomb goes up I know we are in deep s....
So, trade players, sell players, whatever! Break the bloody bank and buy the best fullback going around.....do what Harry Triguboff wanted and get Billy Slater! Would love a solid halfback too while you're there...no-one over the top, someone like Hornby would do nicely.

Having said that, if we got any quality 1 or 7 to go with the Blair purchase no-one would complain.

So who do you think determines a club's playing roster. If not the CEO and Head Coach, then who??

This is what I'm having trouble with here, lots of people coming out and saying we needed a roster change etc is everyone forgetting about last year? and then the beginning of this year when we were listed as 2nd favourites.

There appeared to be no plans at all to be going through this process at the beginning of the year, everyone was looking forward to this season based on last season. Unforunately we had a lot of injuries at the beginning of the year which completely derailed us and now for some reason, that means we should have a complete cleanout…

Going by the decisions that have been made in recent weeks and comparing them to late last year and early this year, something has occurred that was not anticipated. You don't extend players contracts and turn around 6 months later and offer to release them.

Too much inconsistency in decision making for this to be a planned cleanout.

Yep - the only thing that makes sense is cap mismanagement. Otherwise you'd simply keep them and slowly off load them. The thing is we have done this in the past - Hodgo is a classic example of us off loading players too early but look at Johnny Cronk. We signed Johnny on a 3 year contract. It was a terrible decision but we kept him here until those 3 years were over.

There is certainly some evidence that cap mismanagement may have occurred for future seasons (ie: the fine), but was Blair coming on to the market not expected?

I am not buying the juniors argument. Juniors are coming through every season so that is something that has to be managed on an annual basis. The only excuse could be that we have a higher number of juniors we wish to retain the usual, but the only recent under 20's to impress this season in my opinion are Groat, Simona and Woods. I am still not sold on Miller and the hype surrounding him.

Whatever has occurred, the plan we have at the moment is different to the one we had 6 months ago.

You keep them until a better option becomes available that you might be able to attract but your right unless we come up with a list of signings unbeknowst to all and sundry it is definitely cap mismanagement . I wonder who will take responsibilty for this .CEO ,Recruitment or Sheens himself . Bennett has said in the past "I do all the hiring and firing " Wonder if Sheens is the same

Who's to say our "marquee" players aren't getting paid far more than what we know. Marshall, Farrah, Galloway, Lawrence and Lote. Then you have rising young players who are able to ask for more dollars in Dwyer and Ayshford and possibly Miller and Woods. I think as the year has come on and a few up coming players have been made offers from other clubs, the Tigers have to then weigh up who to keep for the longer term and who they might have to to let go to free up the cash to lock those more desired players in for several years. Gibbs and Fulton should be allowed to go, they've been with us for a long time and have pretty well met all expectations the club had for them. Heighington is a harder one to let go as he is a club favourite and a hard worker, but personally I think he has only another year or so in him anyway. The only one I think we should have kept is Fifita, however we probably tried but the way the cashed up Sharks are throwing money around we probably just couldn't match what they offered. And lets face it, he's really only come on late last year and then this season in hot and cold patches. Remember Ben Teo, many rated him as one of our brightest prospects a few years ago and the Broncos offered him a very attractive pay packet, wher is he now ? It's easy to think we are getting rid of all these players to make way for our big Blair signing but I think there's more to it than that. We actually have some current players that are now able to command bigger pay packets. We can't keep them all.

So you think Fifita is worth 300 k We just signed Lawrence for 380 K Still think Fifita is worth 300 k
