The Laurie Daley pearls of wisdom thread

Gary Belcher today said in regards to the Sharks double movement call: "For me he could of stopped himself scoring if he wanted to". To me he still had momentum so why should he force himself to stop?

Belcher is a shocker. There was something he said today where he completely contradicted himself in the one sentence but i forget what it was. Some of the Fox callers are realy terrible. They certainly do scrape the bottom of the barrell sometimes. On a side note, have you ever seen a more obvious man crush then the one Raymond has on Slater?

It really is developing  I heard him a few times call him "The great man" tonight.

I heard one from Laurie just then in the post game, Raymond asked him a question in regards to Souths winning matches and Daley came out with "They're a developing football time"

Andy's been listening to Laurie too much. He used the words 'fatigue' and 'energy 'a couple times tonight, Lauries two favourite words

I think 'capable' is not far behind.

Laurie is the king at stating the obvious. Whenever someone makes a mistake its always 'he'll be disappointed with that'. Nah, realy?

:roll :roll :roll

Thank you both for the laugh tonight!

Gasnier must be following in Daleys footsteps he had a shocker tonight. A few howlers included saying "Melbourne played more advantageous" and telling Matt king to "celebrate with the boys" after a loss.

During the Bulldogs V Dragons call, he came up with something along the lines of (refering to the Bulldogs defence), "They won't want the Dragons to get a try here. That will be their goal in this set of 6, to deny them points".

Isn't that the sole purpose of defending? To deny the opposition points?

Thank you for clearing that up Captian Obvious, I used to defend hoping the opposition would score!

Tonight he was talking about tonga and said something along the lines of the eels have missed a strike centre in the last few years… Didn't he select tahu for the blues in 2010

Tallis again tonight showed what a wordsmith he is. Talking about Sam McKendry's try and how he brushed off a player he said 'I think it was Franl-Paul Nuuasala or something' like Frank-Paul is a thing

Thats hillarious. He looks so awkward in front of the camera. Just another example of how footballers as good as they might have been, don't always make very good commentators

Gaz must be living 5 years in the past when King played for Melbourne! But then again last year at the season launch Daley asked Benji if he was looking forward to season 2008\. Lozza's tips are paying off!

When his eyes move between the camera and just beside it, it wouldn't surprise me if he was looking at que cards.

I heard one from Gasnier on NRL on Fox, they were discussing why Pritchard got suspended and not Vatuvei and he came out with:
"The bigger issue out of this is would we be talking about this as much… if the judiciary weren't so inconsistent"

Stating the obvious there Gaz, if the judiciary/match review were consistent, of course this matter wouldn't get spoken about lol.

When he began the sentence I expected a different point of view to come out, instead he came out with a line that didnt even need to be said.

Some people just aren't meant to be in front of a camera Jazza. Sad to say the majority of players who have gone into the media after retirement have no right being anywhere near a microphone. Doesn't say a lot about Rugby League sadly

I think some of them feel that they can just appear on TV and everything will flow out for them perfectly.

It doesn't just happen like that, newsreaders are good because they have had years of training and practice.

Ex footy players need to realise that they may not be television material. Although in saying that I think TV networks need to realise these things as well and not just think "Oh he was a great player, lets through a lump of money at him and get him onto our network".

You totaly nailed it Jazza. Rugby League is the only sport in Australia, and i dare say the world that hires ex-players based on their ability on the field, not in front of the camera. You watch AFL and Union shows on Fox and they are filled with guys who have great elocution, then you watch our shows and you have guys like Tallis who can't string a coherent sentence together without saying 'mate' 5 times. Then the Johns brothers and Fittler who all talk out of their nose. It isn't a great advertisment for League
