The Media v Wests Tigers.

I think I understand, you’re saying that many on here like the criticism from journos, but don’t admit to it? 😂
And when it’s said that..”we start winning and all this goes away” it’s said with some sense of future loss/emptiness? 😂
ROFL. I will actually twist that a bit.

"We start winning, and the Journalists will stir muck out of a player manager or disgruntled leaker and use that to de-rail our season"!

But hey, they need the clicks 🙁

We control our own destiny as far as the journos go

We win lots of footy games and the press can't bag us ....simples
We all definitely control our own destiny.
Sure if we win a heap of games the scribes would suffer a blow to their credibility if they were over critical of our on field performances, but why would they ? There are plenty more stories of our mismanagement and infighting to write about.

Journos go for low hanging fruit and the tigers have given them plenty of it the past few years.

Add the internal traitors within WT that leak information in addition to toxic player managers with agendas - it's been a perfect storm.

Theres no way the NRL want the tigers out. I'd suggest they actually want us to succeed.

So its not them. Its us.

A couple of months ago I was listening to a media ratings expert on radio (I think on Sen) talk about clicks on articles. He used the Tigers as an example that on average a Tigers article would generate over 100k clicks giving the journalist their targeted amount. When the board was removed late last year, Michelle Bishop confirmed she had constant contact with Lee Hagipantelis often with him openly telling her behind the scenes of things happening. We now have Brent Read who is mates with Richo spinning any Tigers articles in a positive manner. We also make it very easy for rubbish articles because we have made some rubbish decisions and dished up some rubbish performances. I can remember an article highlighting that Luke Brooks had played x amount of games for no finals footy and painted him in a very negative light. When he signed with Manly that very same media outlet put up headlines “Signing of the year” before he had even played. I have no doubt that the recent leaks regarding (Romey & Bula) are from our former Ceo & Chairman and a current board member because it was only last week that Richo was very clear and very vocal how our new sponsorship deals are the biggest in the club’s history. Remember some articles when Brydens ended their association with us, Lee said Tigers would struggle to find a sponsor who puts in the dollars that Brydens put in. One thing will minimise the constant beat down of us is winning. Its simple, win and they win mostly leave us alone.
Great post.

Yep. The media always targets clubs at the bottom of the ladder. The reason why it feel like a constant barrage on us is cos we are constantly at the bottom of the ladder. 2+2 =4

Payne Haas is 25 and had 5 coaches at the broncos.
He made his NRL debut in 2018, and has already been coached by Wayne Bennett, Anthony Seibold, Peter Gentle, Walters and now Maguire.

I still don't understand how the media reports, factual or not, can cause the team to play poorly.
Constant negative media creates a negative perception of the club, perception has a tendency towards reality a lot of the time. The club has for a long time struggled to attract the very best players unless they pay stupid money for them. When this happens your salary cap becomes unbalanced and you end up with a lot of overpaid players along with untried kids in your top 30, resulting in on field struggles.

In 2024 there was a noticeable shift away from so many “Tigers are a joke” stories and as such recruitment also improved. I’m sure there’s a lot of factors behind that, but no doubt when we were being run by the muppets, they ran the perception of the club to a very low point.

Richo knows how to use media to your advantage, as opposed to using it to promote your law firm.

Nope, not buying it mate.
By their very nature journalists are reporters. Meaning, they comment on something that has already happened right?
Journos can’t print that a club has stuffed up before they actually stuff up. Or am I not giving journos enough credit for their ability to predict the future. Some of them did have us earmarked for another spoon in 24.

Hang on man , are you implying that journalists are impartial in thier articles ? Thats the most 90s thing I’ve read in a while .
Look at these contract leaks . Actually read the articles most of it is spin about the board restructures , hyperbole about players leaving in the future , and implied incompetence because of the contracts negotiated .
And from what I can tell just about anyone with a Brain has had the same conclusion re Luai and his contract .
IF WE DIDNT AGREE WE ARNT GETTING HIM.
Which means the article and the way it was written by its very nature is the most extremely negative interpretation of what transpired . With a whole bunch of regurgitating filler from a year ago , to round it out .
The alternative article , would have such a non story , it wouldn’t have been published .
There’s litterally a word to describe this . Sensationalist Journalism. Which is all journalism in 2024 .

No, I’m not implying impartiality and yes I do agree, like most people, that journalists often have a biased agenda. It’s often obvious with the ‘free’ opinion articles being ones they want us to read. I’m just saying they’re more reactive than proactive, particularly when they do the bidding of their sources.

I dunno I personally think that that ideology has gone the way of the dodo.
For example just for arguments sake Dean Ritchie last year with both the Benji work ethic nonsense and I can’t remember what exactly but it was some rule change that wasn’t even being discussed or had never been discussed .
He wrote an article about a problem , that he made up . Then he feigned outrage at said problem he made up . It created enough clicks that warranted further discussion where people thought his made up article was horseshit ,
Then he further creates more content about the article of which he made up , until he’s squeezed enough juice out of that lemon he possible could.
No matter what the collateral damage of the fallout of the made up thing he wrote about .
At the very least it’s ethically disgusting .
And IMHO , I think this Chammas thing falls well into that category , if not wholly , because yes , it is of interest that the general public know about the luai clauses .
It’s like when Brent Reed wrote about the banning of kickoffs . It was just a thing that he and his DT mates had sat around and discussed and he wrote an article about it , of which people in the know were saying it hadn’t really been discussed at the nrl . And if it had it was in reaction to the article he wrote .
He created the whole thing , and now he can write an. Article saying the nrl discussed it , whereas the only reason they discussed it was because he has a platform and created it as a talking point in the first place . Must jaut a giant circle jerk . Sometimes like that it’s pretty innocent , but the Benji work ethic stuff , was pretty damaging to Benjis reputation. And it was all made up by these dickheads at the pub.
It’s hardly Peter Frilingos and Head doing in depth investigations into actual problems .like 20 years ago , guys like buzz would have been limited to blurbs in the gossip page of the sports section. Writing about player girlfriends and who’s eating at which restaurant . Now these guys are talking heads on a tv show , and speak with such gravitas about shit they barely know anything about . Thier lack of Integrity is there for all to see . But we are soo used to just accepting the absolute shit they write about , that we defend it.
And that stuff is most of the sports section nowadays . Only every now and then do actually get a news story that’s been thoroughly investigated , and actual award winning stuff . It’s all just news limited muck raking. And now all the news outlets have got on board because otherwise they can’t compete .

Nailed it!
