The National Anthem

@Go_You_Good_Things Equity is about creating and equal playing field for everyone, not treating every one equally.

@Dan_Blanco Thanks mate, I appreciate that considering the amount of times we are on the opposite side of the argument!

@TheDaBoss

You're asking for a world of trouble there my friend.

It deals with a male lead character - so its obviously misogynistic.
It doesn't mention first nations people - so its therefore racist.
It glorifies the kidnapping of animals - PETA would not be impressed !
And the swagman ends up comitting suidice. You would need to post the lifeline number at the bottom of the anthem every time it was printed.

Lets just stick with Advance Australia Fair.

lol, nice,
But what's more Aussie than doing something dumb, doing a runner from the cops, and escaping by some grand gesture which is actually more stupid and not really escaping at all. It's like a scene from the Castle.

Can you feel the serenity mate? It's not a song, it's an anthem!

@weststigers Other groups do get these benefits, as a country we have things that health cards that allow low incomes earners to receive similar benefits, similar programs for refugees, programs for the disabled etc. Indigenous people is high on the list of the most disadvantaged groups in the country, so they become a focus for these programs!

"Disadvantaged groups

4.4 Some groups in Australian society are more vulnerable to poverty and disadvantage than others. This includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, people living with a mental illness, single parents and newly arrived migrants (particularly those without English). For people in these groups, a low income is typically a symptom of more fundamental disadvantages that they face in everyday life. However, income is a key factor in determining the economic wellbeing of these groups. In the absence of an income or transfer payments to sustain a basic standard of living, a person's physical and mental health often deteriorates and their capacity to enter or re-enter the workforce and engage in community activities is diminished."

Yeah the Roosters would get all 3 boxes and then that would make some more for Souths and Brisbane!

How many times have the cameras scanned a NRL/SOO team while the national anthem is playing, and some of them (Indigenous or otherwise) aren't singing it? What's the big deal here? I couldn't care less.

Research what means testing is. Means testing factors in ones income level and other disadvantages to determine whether a government benefit will be granted...do you even read to the end of my posts or do you disagree with means testing?

I simply said the colour of ones skin or their race should not be the factor at play to receive a benefit. I don't see why this is so controversial to you or is it just that you believe that Aboriginal people, even the ones that earn a great income, should be on welfare in perpetuity?

I don't begrudge anyone that gets welfare, but the system is broken if one can never get off welfare and stand on their own two feet.

Just to add - it's the racism of low expectations that Aboriginal people can't survive without welfare even when they earn income at levels considered to be normal against the general population.

@weststigers i know what means testing is and I'm not against it but it is only one of the tools in the shed. There are many groups that require more universal supports. Sticking to the topic at hand, programs that are specifically created to close the gap are of vital importance as gap between indigenous peoples outcomes and the general population is just too large to bridge using just means testing!

Vague at best...I maintain these "universal supports" can be means tested.

Someone who earns the same as me doesn't need free dental. I don't care what their background is.

Haha you're the man bro.

@weststigers tbh, you’re skimming over things entirely and if your family wasn’t able to afford dental care for whatever reason and including the fact we have public healthcare then I can’t see a point being made here. Who’s to say he didn’t have to go through some form of means testing or at least earn the perks through the universal supports anyways... white aussies have similars ways to go through a like for like process either under centrelink/not.

Nobody’s saying there’s a huge disadvantage in the basics but it’s very much too complex for you to be saying coch is e being vague!

Isn’t the bloke at work one of ya best mates??

You have me confused with someone else.

Both of you need to tighten your arguments because they have more holes in them than Swiss cheese.

@weststigers now that’s not much of a yarn, but alright good chat mate... believe u said it

@OzLuke said his mate gets the benefit. Not me.

@weststigers and no, we really don’t. As @cochise and I have covered things in depth, to the extent you CAN speak on somebody’s behalf, whereas you’re comparatively vague

@weststigers my point is you’ve agreed and are using his points to back up something you’d said which was totally irrelevant to thread topic.

Cheers bud
