The new and improved Lote thread

Toothy…......If Lote isnt going to start asap, then why would ol Sheensie ge ending him a vid of our plays.
\

IMO he will start in round one straight up........you dont leave an international on the sideline.

Yeah I can't see why he couldn't play wing straight away, but fullback is different. Sheens has said it numerous times that Lote wont get off the plane on Tuesday and play Saturday or in our case, Monday. He'll be given atleast a week to settle back into the country/home and will be given atleast a weeks training with the squad before he lines up. Thats just the way I have read Sheens comments in his approach to playing Tuquiri.

If he's here two weeks before round 1 then yep, he might play round 1…...on the wing. Lets hope he is here by then and impressess enough to warrant a round 1 start.......on the wing.

Moltzen must be in the side, but not in the centres, he's not physical enough for it. He's a classy mover and is dangerous with the ball in his hand having runners around him, at centre he will get physically dominated. He'll have many good games there because he has class, but overall, it really isnt his position. His best spot by far is 5/8, but that cant happen.

Tuqiri prepares for NRL return
By Valkerie Baynes AAP Wed, 24 Feb 2010 05:57:51
Lote Tuqiri believes he's in a win-win situation as his union and league clubs negotiate on his latest switch of codes.
>
Wests Tigers remain in talks with English premiership side Leicester Tigers to secure an early release for Tuqiri to move back to the NRL from English rugby.
>
In the meantime, the dual international winger doesn't mind whether he heads back to Australia in early or late March.
>
"Both parties are still talking," Tuqiri told AAP at Leicester training on Tuesday.
>
"At the moment I'm still leaving at the end of March when my contract runs out but both parties are still talking. I don't mind what happens either way.
>
"It's not like I'm dying to get out of here. The boys tell me it's going to come into the heart of the season when the ground firms up. That would be good to stay for, but it will also be good to go back. It's a win-win for me."
>
Wests Tigers have asked Leicester to bring an early end to Tuqiri's contract, which expires at the end of March even though the northern hemisphere season runs until the end of May.
>
The NRL club believes the best case scenario would have the 30-year-old return just prior to round one.
>
Leicester are out of Europe's Heineken Cup and the Anglo-Welsh LV Cup competition, leaving only the English premiership where they are top of the table.
>
That means they have only two fixtures in March falling within Tuqiri's contract period, against London Irish on March 6 and Worcester Warriors on March 27.
>
Should Tuqiri be released after the first of those games, it would be a tough ask to leave England and join his new club in time to face Manly on March 15.
>
Tuqiri scored the opening try as Leicester showed their premiership credentials by thrashing Gloucester 33-11 to move five points clear at the top on Saturday.

It's Getting closer….

Today's Tele reports that Leicester have agreed to let him go early

also, the more I think about it, the more i'm liking the idea of Lote playing 3 and moving Aysh to the wing/lock/bench

Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys remains confident star recruit Lote Tuqiri will be granted an early release from English club Leicester in the coming days.

The dual international, who signed a three-year deal with the Tigers last month, is contracted to the English rugby powerhouse until the end of March meaning he could miss the opening four matches of the NRL campaign if denied an early release.

"Lote as we've said will be here by the end of March and we're in discussion with Leicester about the possibility of bringing that forward," Humphreys told Sportal.

"I'm hopeful, but it's not yet confirmed."

"They're a very professional club but they have some processes to go through and I'm respectful of that, but hopefully we'll have something in place that sees Lote here a little earlier than we would have thought which would be a nice bonus."

While Leicester holds all the cards, a cautious Humphreys confirmed the best-case scenario for the joint-venture club would see Tuqiri back in Australia almost a full week before the season opener against Manly on March 15.

Leicester, also known at the Tigers, are scheduled to play matches on March 6 and March 27, meaning the 30-year-old would only miss one English Premiership fixture if granted a release following the penultimate match of his contract.

"If it happens he would be here five or six days before the first game," Humphreys said.

"The fact that we play on a Monday night in Round 1 is kind of helpful in this regard."

Asked if Tuqiri is keen to return early, Humphrey's replied: "To be fair to Lote he's also respectful of his commitment to Leicester so he's just left it in our hands, but if it comes to be that he can be here earlier he'll be pleased with that."

**Late Lote or timely Tuqiri? Tigers hope for season opener**

March 1, 2010

Wests Tigers officials expect to learn tonight whether star signing Lote Tuqiri will be available to play in their round-one clash with Manly on March 15.

Tuqiri is playing rugby union in England for Leicester, but the Tigers have asked the defending Guinness Premiership champions to release the dual international from the final five rounds of the competition.

If Leicester agree to do so, Tuqiri will make his farewell rugby union appearance on Saturday against London Irish and then board a flight to join the Tigers next week.

Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said it was hoped Tuqiri would arrive either next Tuesday or Wednesday to begin preparing for his first NRL appearance since switching codes in 2002.

''We should know within the next 48 hours,'' Humphreys said yesterday.

''I plan to speak with Leicester on Monday their time, which will be Monday night here.

''The agreement until this point has been that he would play for them in their game on March 6 and hopefully they will release him after that.

''If were able to arrange for him to get on a plane pretty much after that match, he would be here next Tuesday or Wednesday.

''Because we've got the Monday night game, that would work out OK,'' he said.

Helping the Tigers' cause is the fact Leicester do not have another premiership match for three weeks, when they meet Worcester on March 27.

Leicester, who lead the competition, then play four more matches before the play-offs series, which culminates with the grand final at Twickenham on May 29.

However, the short-term contract Tuqiri signed with Leicester in November is due to expire at the end of March, so he would only play one more game for the club if he failed to gain an earlier release.

Despite Tuqiri not having played league for seven seasons, Tigers coach Tim Sheens is understood to hold few reservations about throwing the 30-year-old straight into the fray against the Sea Eagles and he would be expected to start the season on the wing.

The absence of Kiwis Test winger Taniela Tuiaki due to complications from an ankle operation has made that an even more appealing proposition, but Sheens hopes to eventually be able to play Tuqiri at fullback once he has settled in.

Tigers officials are still unsure when Tuiaki will return after breaking his ankle two weeks before last year's finals series, but they remain hopeful the giant 27-year-old will feature in the club's 2010 premiership campaign.

''It is still too early to tell but the medical staff are happy with the way he is progressing,'' Humphreys said.

The Tigers are also confident of having star playmaker Benji Marshall back for the round-one clash with Manly after injuring his knee in last week's trial against Sydney Roosters.

Rookie Robert Lui starred in Marshall's absence at five-eighth in Saturday night's 36-12 win over Cronulla at Gosford and is expected to win the No.7 jersey for the Manly clash, with halfback Tim Moltzen shifting to fullback.

i was under the impression benji injured his ankle….now its a knee injury?..do they research what they write or just guess?
