For humans, androgyne (/ˈændrədʒaɪn/ AN-drə-jyn) in terms of gender identity is a person who does not fit neatly into the typical masculine and feminine gender roles of their society. Androgynes may also use the term "ambigender" or "polygender" to describe themselves. Many androgynes identify as being mentally between woman and man, or as entirely genderless.

The Bem Sex-Role Inventory (BSRI) was constructed by the early leading proponent of androgyny, Sandra Bem (1977).[5] The BSRI is one of the most widely used gender measures. Based on an individual's responses to the items in the BSRI, they are classified as having one of four gender role orientations: masculine, feminine, androgynous, or undifferentiated.

An androgynous person is a female or male who has a high degree of both feminine (expressive) and masculine (instrumental) traits. A feminine individual is ranked high on feminine (expressive) traits and ranked low on masculine (instrumental) traits. A masculine individual is ranked high on instrumental traits and ranked low on expressive traits. An undifferentiated person is low on both feminine and masculine traits.[5]

According to Sandra Bem, androgynous men and women are more flexible and more mentally healthy than either masculine or feminine individuals; undifferentiated individuals are less competent

Does this mean that now when forms ask for your gender there needs to be 3 options?
- Male
- Female
- Neither/Other

I think we have a few undifferentiated individuals here

Seriously, what a waste of taxpayers money and i'd bet my bottom dollar it doesnt have a job

This entire thread is gross
There are non binary individuals
Just because they're not like you doesn't make them things
Stop dehumanising individuals because they don't fit your standards of gender
You don't call them 'things' or 'its', you call them by whatever they request to be called by.
In all honesty this thread should be removed, the same way any offensive thread should (ie a racist or sexist one).

Wow.

Just because you don't understand the perspective of someone doesn't mean you have the right to discriminate against them. That's no better than discriminating against gays, black people and the mentally ill.

This is no place for threads of this nature. Disagreeing with the ruling is fine, but name calling is not.

She was interviewed on Triple M this afternoon and was a charming, happy and intelligent person. She said she doesn't mind being called a he, she or they. Pick whatever suits your viewpoint on the matter.

She's not a shemale by the way, she has no genitalia at all.

Where do you draw the line though.

What's to now stop somebody from saying I don't identify myself as human and infact see myself as a goat, as which I would now like to be recognised.

Except that gender and species are not in any way the same concept. Species is a biological fact (similar to sex) whereas gender is a social construct that, unfortunately, does not suit all people.

Also this is the same jumping way far of the goal argument that people use against marriage equality when they say 'what if people wanna marry their dogs!'. It shows that they're clutching at straws and don't have a strong view or understanding of the issue
