I hear you. It's annoying when we all fail. For me, I'm Christian and I fail all the time. I don't want to look at other women, yet I do. I don't want to lie and yet I do. I don't want waste money that could save the life of a refugee…. But I do. I would look like a hypocrite to you.

I'm a sinner and can never actually be worthy. Lucky for me I believe Jesus died for me. Lucky for me I get to have a relationship with God not because of my purity but purely because I acknowldge that I am a sinner.

Foreveratiger... Mate that's the whole Christian point. Being a Christian doesn't make you better, it is just admitting how bad you are and fully relying on Jesus from then on

Question for you, if you truly think your a sinner.
If your child did something wrong at school and was to be punshed for it but one of his friends volunteered to serve the punishment for him, would you let him?

Hopefully your answer is 'no' if it is, and you truly believe your a sinner that deserves punishment (separation from god) why don't you do the time for your crime? Why do you see its immoral for an innocent child to serve your childs punishment, yet you'll gladly let an innocent man serve yours?

If i was to buy into this sin bs, and i truly believed i was a sinner and not worthy then I'd be a man and accept the punishment god had install for sinners i wouldn't ride on the coat tails of a innocent man to gain entry into wonderland.

And If your answer is 'yes' then your immoral.

Look this is becoming a Tit for Tat thing and the whole thing has been taken out of context with the point Cqtiger was trying to make with his Original Post and i fell in the trap.

Mccarry i respect what you believe in and if it helps you getting through life with this Path and anyone else on this Forum that Jesus died for you then i'm happy for you and everyone else here .

Without trying to put words in your mouth, im assuming you mean you respect his 'right' to believe, not the belief itself. Beliefs don't deserve respect.
If i told you i believe the moon is made of cheese and my dog can solve crossword puzzles would you respect those beliefs? if so why?

Many examples showing God's design could be given, possibly with no end. But here are a few:

The Earth…its size is perfect. The Earth's size and corresponding gravity holds a thin layer of mostly nitrogen and oxygen gases, only extending about 50 miles above the Earth's surface. If Earth were smaller, an atmosphere would be impossible, like the planet Mercury. If Earth were larger, its atmosphere would contain free hydrogen, like Jupiter.3 Earth is the only known planet equipped with an atmosphere of the right mixture of gases to sustain plant, animal and human life.

The Earth is located the right distance from the sun. Consider the temperature swings we encounter, roughly -30 degrees to +120 degrees. If the Earth were any further away from the sun, we would all freeze. Any closer and we would burn up. Even a fractional variance in the Earth's position to the sun would make life on Earth impossible. The Earth remains this perfect distance from the sun while it rotates around the sun at a speed of nearly 67,000 mph. It is also rotating on its axis, allowing the entire surface of the Earth to be properly warmed and cooled every day.

And our moon is the perfect size and distance from the Earth for its gravitational pull. The moon creates important ocean tides and movement so ocean waters do not stagnate, and yet our massive oceans are restrained from spilling over across the continents.4

Water...colorless, odorless and without taste, and yet no living thing can survive without it. Plants, animals and human beings consist mostly of water (about two-thirds of the human body is water). You'll see why the characteristics of water are uniquely suited to life:

It has wide margin between its boiling point and freezing point. Water allows us to live in an environment of fluctuating temperature changes, while keeping our bodies a steady 98.6 degrees.

Water is a universal solvent. This property of water means that various chemicals, minerals and nutrients can be carried throughout our bodies and into the smallest blood vessels.5

Water is also chemically neutral. Without affecting the makeup of the substances it carries, water enables food, medicines and minerals to be absorbed and used by the body.

Water has a unique surface tension. Water in plants can therefore flow upward against gravity, bringing life-giving water and nutrients to the top of even the tallest trees.

Water freezes from the top down and floats, so fish can live in the winter.

Ninety-seven percent of the Earth's water is in the oceans. But on our Earth, there is a system designed which removes salt from the water and then distributes that water throughout the globe. Evaporation takes the ocean waters, leaving the salt, and forms clouds which are easily moved by the wind to disperse water over the land, for vegetation, animals and people. It is a system of purification and supply that sustains life on this planet, a system of recycled and reused water.6

The human brain...simultaneously processes an amazing amount of information. Your brain takes in all the colors and objects you see, the temperature around you, the pressure of your feet against the floor, the sounds around you, the dryness of your mouth, even the texture of your keyboard. Your brain holds and processes all your emotions, thoughts and memories. At the same time your brain keeps track of the ongoing functions of your body like your breathing pattern, eyelid movement, hunger and movement of the muscles in your hands.

The human brain processes more than a million messages a second.7 Your brain weighs the importance of all this data, filtering out the relatively unimportant. This screening function is what allows you to focus and operate effectively in your world. The brain functions differently than other organs. There is an intelligence to it, the ability to reason, to produce feelings, to dream and plan, to take action, and relate to other people.

The eye...can distinguish among seven million colors. It has automatic focusing and handles an astounding 1.5 million messages -- simultaneously.8 Evolution focuses on mutations and changes from and within existing organisms. Yet evolution alone does not fully explain the initial source of the eye or the brain -- the start of living organisms from nonliving matter.

Proof enough?

I generally steer clear of these types of discussions..especially on the webz but that post is one of the silliest and yet completely horrifying examples of religious brainwashing I've seen.

I'm not a religous person but if anyone here was demeaning peoples sexual choices, their colour, their race or their choice of dog v cat there would be an uproar.
Can we get past people thinking they are superior because they 'THINK' they are right about there being a God or not?
Unfortunately most of the moral superiority seems to be coming from the non believers.

Thats because the non believers are more morally superior than a follower of the Christian religion, I for example am against slavery but not the god of the bible.
\
\
In the following God describes how to become a slave for life, and shows that it is completely acceptable to separate slaves from their families. God also shows that he completely endorses the branding of slaves through mutilation.
\
\
Exodus Chapter 21, verse 1:

Now these are the ordinances which you shall set before them. When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's and he shall go out alone. But if the slave plainly says, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,' then his master shall bring him to God, and he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for life.
\
\
Exodus Chapter 21, verse 20:

If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property.

Not only does God condone slavery, but he is also completely comfortable with the concept of beating your slaves, as long as you don't kill them.
\
\
Exodus Chapter 21, verse 32:

If the bull gores a male or female slave, the owner must pay thirty shekels of silver to the master of the slave, and the bull must be stoned

Not only does God condone slavery, but here God places a value on slaves – 30 shekels of silver. Note that God is not sophisticated enough to understand the concept of inflation. It is now 3,000 years later, and a gored slave is still worth 30 shekels of silver according to God's word.

Has any Christian actually read the bible, My guess would be a very low % of them have. Its full of lovely stuff like this.

tigersman, that was very interesting and full of a lot of great points, and im not talking metaphysically by any means and dont have anything to say debating the existence or not of god, so i hope youre not offended.

but im not sure that everything in your post is correct.

it is erroneous to say that the earth is the perfect distance from the sun and in particular it is completely wrong to state that even a fractional variance from the sun and life would not be sustainable. this is completely false.

for a start, the earth's orbit is elliptical, nowhere near perfectly circular. by its very symmetry, the ellipse shaped orbit means the earth is constantly at a different distance from the sun, moment to moment if you want to get into infinitesimal measurements.

secondly, continuing with what is in a universal scale a "fraction", the centre of gravity of the sun and each planet in the solar system is actually the pivot point around which the planets revolve, and the sun oscillates, not the exact centre of the sun. the centreline of a planet's orbit is the planet's centre of gravity, but the exact centre of the solar system around which everything revolves is not the exact centre of the sun. very close to it, but not quite.

because of the sun's incredible mass, the common point between it and all the planets is not actually the exact centre of the sun, but is so close to the suns centre that it seems so. it is like having a scale with something a billion times heavier on one arm than the other; from anywhere further than having a microscope, it would look as though the heavier object was exactly above the fulcrum, but in fact is just to the other side of it.

what this means is that the sun does actually oscillate due to the planets' effect on it, but on such an "astronomical" (boom boom! :wink🙂 scale. it is this very slight variance from static position that has allowed astronomers to discover other planets outside our solar system, as a sun would not move without another planet affecting it.

also, the earth doesnt revolve exactly around a pivot along its angle of inclination. it is currently 23.4 degrees but this is also constantly changing due to axial precession. so it is actually wobbling around as well in its revolutions.

:blah

i don't understand the part about water freezing from the top down? doesnt the change of state of an element happen at a molecular level?

2: Which genesis account are you talking about? there are 2 different versions in the Bible. In any event I don't see how the biblical story sets it out in the exact order, at this stage, there's nothing too concrete in regards to the creation of the universe.

So, can you explain exactly what you mean by exact order?

Genesis 1:1-2:3

As I said, it's pretty amazing that this was accurately recorded in the Old Testament.
_Posted using RoarFEED 4.2.0_

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
\

How is any of that showing the exact order of a scientific model of the creation of the universe?? The current model is the Big Bang, which is an expansion starting from a singularity.

The earth was not covered in darkness, the sun was there prior.

turnstyle has answered quite a bit, however

1: The Earth is not special, there are estimated to be billions of planets in a human habitable zone (the goldilocks zone) just in our galaxy.

Conversely, why create a universe filled with planets we can't live on? There's plenty of environments on our own planet not really suitable of humans.

2: Water is not just found on Earth, not sure why that would prove the existence of a deity.

3: The human brain is not the best design, it can create all sorts of psychological, emotional and physical problems. Quite frankly, it's not logical enough either.

4: The eye is not well designed, we have a blind spot, we see things upside down and the brain has to correct it, there are plenty of animals with better eyes.

5: Evolution doesn't deal with the "creation" of life, that's abiogenesis

Arguments from design fail to address which deity as well.

This thread has been moved into general discussion….several posts were deleted as the discussion became attacks of a personal nature....It is an interesting topic ...please debate the topic not the poster...

If it degenerates again the whole topic will be deleted....what a waste of typing that would be,,,,

1: How do you know they were not inspired by anyone other than men? and I'm not just talking about the Christian Bible here, there are hundreds of other religious texts talking about other religions.

How is any of that showing the exact order of a scientific model of the creation of the universe?? The current model is the Big Bang, which is an expansion starting from a singularity.

The earth was not covered in darkness, the sun was there prior.

Your off the mark. Spend abit of time and look into it further.

Don't think I am allowed to post links, and I sure as hell am not going to type out an essay on here explaining the 6 biblical stages.

But if you are genuinely interested just google the topic and read up on it. Interesting, whether you are a believer or not.

there have been some very interesting posts in this thread. not that i think cq intended to open this little can of worms!

whilst not interested in religious debates, as they always tend to go the way this thread has - its human nature to defend ones own beliefs strongly, and as metaphysics is a very sensitive issue, people get upset - i do really find things such as the questions flip posed, tigersmans and tigerdaves posts interesting though and enjoy level headed discussions of this nature. so thank you - it has made for a good thread in that regard.

Without trying to put words in your mouth, im assuming you mean you respect his 'right' to believe, not the belief itself. Beliefs don't deserve respect.
If i told you i believe the moon is made of cheese and my dog can solve crossword puzzles would you respect those beliefs? if so why?

Why wouldn't you respect his beliefs?

As a Christian he believes in love, tolerance, forgiveness, and turning away from sin.

What part of these beliefs is not worthy of respect from you, or any other decent person, for that matter?

You seem to be on some sort of personal crusade to discredit religion, which has made your thought process on the topic become extremely narrow and spiteful.
