This is a Very Winnable Game

Just think it's a great time to play them.

I think generally we might be a bottom 4 team and they are going to be a top 4 team but in Round 1 you wont see that (hopefully!)

It usually takes to around Round 4-5 until teams form/ability is bedded down.

Sure agree round one is the best time to play any of the better sides, but you still have to be able to score points and stop points, and our lack of speed right across the park is a worry

They tend to jump out of the blocks early against us, rolling us up the middle and that's it, it becomes a painful game to watch. I wonder where our points are going to come from as they have us covered for speed, and their defence is usually pretty good. On the other hand, I can see Teddy burning Marsters and Nofo and causing us all sorts of problems.

Am hoping that a star team will beat a team of stars, not totally unheard of. Regardless, looking forward to seeing the game

I am hoping the Tigers get up but see real problems with our halves and right side defence, Maybe Benji off the bench will star. The forwards whoever is picked should hold their own! The combinations will need to gel for a win,

I can see it happening too. I think our forward pack will roll through them and the structure that we play, in which the fullback roves around the ruck looking for offloads will cause plenty of breaks. There'll be a couple of set plays too, Cleary loves them. Tigers by 4

I posted previously, WT have quite strong early-season form esp at home games (not surprisingly). It's after about 6 rounds each season that we tend to fall away badly.

Well we're screwed if we have some close losses in the early rounds then fall away as you say.

Yeah would rather 2 wins and 4 floggings than close losses.

hope springs eternal,eddie.
under terry lamb's coaching the wests tigers won their first two games against the previous years grand finalists- canterbury and…..? in 2003.
however,we didnt win too many after that.
so anything is possible.

Thats kind of my point.

I think we have a pretty awful side on paper.

However Round 1 sometimes we fire.

Anyway my confidence is already waning after seeing the team.

I have a sneaky feeling we might finally break the Roosters curse. Just a hunch as on talent it is not really a contest -they have far more firepower.

Round 1 is a great time to get the Chooks. Play them when they are rolling in Round 8 or Round 12 and we probably have none as in previous years. Surely their attack wont be clicking into gear first up (pray)

However they are coming off a long season. Plenty at the World Cup. Controversy in the off season with Pearce debacle.
Keary potentially out Cronk first up.

Most are expecting us to get pummelled. I really think we can ambush them up front and just try and out hustle and out work them,. We have that mentality there with not much to lose and no expectations from the outside we are hunting them. I think we can win this game in the forwards

I have tipped us to run 15th this year but I think we can win this game. Our Round 1 record is excellent over the years.

Go figure.

15th?
Are you are really a tigers fan?

I am just hoping for a single roosters game where Tupou doesn't tower over our wingers, im a afraid it'll happen again.

Don't hold your breath.
If Keary plays, him and Cronk we will plenty of high balls to wing.

Agree with the OP… This is a good time of the season to play the best teams.

Errors will be the deciding factor, and if we can be on the right side of that coin we are every chance to see a Tiger victory.

Fire Up Tigers!!!

you keep saying this so for the peanut gallery ..is it really true…The Roosters may struggle with combinations early in the year...mkay

Here is the Wests Tigers Team that last played a game of genuine footy rd 26

WESTS TIGERS

1\. James Tedesco
2\. David Nofoaluma
3\. Esan Marsters
4\. Kevin Naiqama
5\. Malakai Watene-Zelezniak
6\. Tuimoala Lolohea
7\. Luke Brooks
8\. Aaron Woods (capt.)
17\. Jack Littlejohn
10\. Tim Grant
11\. Joel Edwards
12\. Josh Aloiai
13\. Matt Eisenhuth

Interchange:
14\. Alex Twal
15\. Sauaso Sue
16\. Bayley Sironen
19\. Jeremy Marshall-King

So only 7 players out of 17 take the field for Rd 1 2018..

From the Rorters side that played the GF qualifier the only changes are....Gordon Pearce Watson Guerra OUT Tedesco Cronk Manu Radley IN..oh and if Keary doesn't play add Cornish...

I think I may know who's combinations may need more than 1 and a half trial games to settle...

In saying all that I do 😛ray: 😛ray: we pummel them like we did to Souff's round 1 last year just to shut the young fella up..

It's good to see positive vibes on the forum. All the Rugby league Facebook posts have brought out all the negative nancies predicting us to get rolled and grab the wooden spoon this year. It is a possibility, but I think every other NRL fan doubts the Tigers too much.
