Generally where there's smoke theres fire...grubs mum told me weeks ago the players are filthty about training up till the GF...and Maguires hard nosed attitude....I was constantly hammered on here regarding ivan Cleary....didnt think he was much of a coach....thoughts about Maguire are pretty much the same, yes he won a comp at souths, but gilligan could have coached that team....I then saw him stuff that side

Our players are already a bunch of weak pussycats. They don't like training up to when their contracts expire, fine. Go become professional playstation gamers. You get paid big bucks and train a few hours a day. There's a mandated end of season rest period for all nrl players. There's no problem training right up to the GF, Canberra and the Roosters are, possibly other clubs too. You want an extended break, earn it. They haven't earned anything yet.

As punishment for not making the GF they should be made to train all year with no breaks, you want a break, earn it, win the comp and have a few months off.

Instead they are whinging they arent getting extra time off for their garbage performance???? They actually want more perks [extra time off] for inferior job performance. Loser club culture at its best.

Yes but **why are they giving inferior performances**-perhaps there is something in the article -Tigers trouble with player safety ?? very worrying :white_frowning_face: :white_frowning_face:

Pea hearts with no mental fortitude and very little first grade ability. Down by a try, dont get the rub of the ref and they capitulate.

WHY:white_frowning_face: There has to be a reason why they are constantly under performing....WHY ?:white_frowning_face:

The question of the last decade.

I put it down to a culture of zero accountability across the entire club. Just in regards to the on field performance, How many times over the last decade have you seen absolute garbage performances from players and they are named week after week. Sure depth has been an issue but id rather throw a kid in there [who couldnt have done any worse then the player they were replacing and who knows maybe a diamond could have been found if given the chance?] and at least the person they replaced would have had a reality check and realised they needed to improve their performance if they wanted to stay in first grade, get another contract, actually worry about their future prospects and given them a desire to pull their thumb out of their butt. Nope, time and time again the club announces the same inept squad.

100% spot on, I have been saying this for years and get told we have nothing to replace them with. Who cares who comes in, you can’t reward poor performance with selection every week

Coach delivered on that this year.

To a degree, but there were still players who put in stinkers and got picked again the following week, it was an improvement on previous years, but not want is needed to turn the place around.
Madge had his whipping boys who he would drop, others he let slide, accountability means everyone, not a select few

There were some weeks we would have had to have called up the whole CC side. Can't drop everyone after a bad game or two. Even Jennings copped it.

It doesn't matter how hard you attempt to flog a player either physically or mentally @2005magic to make up for "said lack of accountability" or "creeping complacency" if the said player just isn't capable of it.

The Japanese tried this sorta stuff on the Burma Railway and lots of other places during the 2nd W.W., and yes I know this is a very extreme example.

One of our posters said recently "I don't like working here I'm just here for the money". It's highly unlikely the employee/player will perform 'at their best' if that is the only reason they go to work.

Most people/employees/players need to feel their opinion is appreciated.
Everyone should know that a boss who involves his employees in the day to day running of the business/team and is interested in his employees/players, will get the 'best' out of his employees/players/team.

Would you rather be flogged, or given the right amount of encouragement in the right way, 'to do your best'?

I’d rather not be flogged but if I’m an overpaid player not performing the flogging may get me to look at my options. We are not coached by a rookie lemon. He’s smart it’s by design.

Spot on, accountability has been huge at this club, lack of, that is. Besides Benji getting benched in Potters time, it is hard to really think over the last 7 seasons of many others that have been held accountable. As its the Tigers we are talking about here, I understand that you cant bench every player every week that have shockers as youd need to replace the entire team most weeks but the total lack of will to just sit out some players that havent put in on field over the years is pretty evident.

Lolohea is one, who turned up to the club completely uninterested in playing and didnt get on the field much. Maybe Packer and Matts this year although i believe a fair amount of Packers time on the sideline coincided with an injury. I honestly cant think of too many else. Jennings and Mahe this year, they swapped around a fair bit but they were just alternating with each other, one week on, one week off. I can however name plenty that played terrible over the years and kept their spots week after week with no consequence.

I also agree with what @2005magic said. Besides on field performance accountability the team has really suffered from the lack of a couple of hard nosed journeymen, no nonsense leaders. We've had Benji and Robbie and Rowdy as the leaders that dont really fill that spot with much confidence, they also suffer from being pretty much one club players stuck in their world view bubble with less insight into what goes on in other playing groups. The Tigers did have 2005 remnants of Halatau and Fulton at the end of their carrers during some of these years but it wasnt enough. Im sure the Tigers would have been much more competitive mentally if we had a couple of playing types like James Graham or Gallen or Matt Scott in the team, they didnt even have to be world beaters or huge rep players, just great straight up and down clubmen like Josh Jackson, Lance Thompson, Michael Hodgson etc, 80 minute tackle all day, lead by example, never give up types. Instead we fielded players like a disinterested Adam Blair, Jack Buchanan and Corey Patterson.

Luke Lewis just made a good comment about this very issue on Bill and Boz

Communication is key , players have to have faith they can talk to anyone at the club without fear of any retribution
