Generally where there's smoke theres fire...grubs mum told me weeks ago the players are filthty about training up till the GF...and Maguires hard nosed attitude....I was constantly hammered on here regarding ivan Cleary....didnt think he was much of a coach....thoughts about Maguire are pretty much the same, yes he won a comp at souths, but gilligan could have coached that team....I then saw him stuff that side

Our players are already a bunch of weak pussycats. They don't like training up to when their contracts expire, fine. Go become professional playstation gamers. You get paid big bucks and train a few hours a day. There's a mandated end of season rest period for all nrl players. There's no problem training right up to the GF, Canberra and the Roosters are, possibly other clubs too. You want an extended break, earn it. They haven't earned anything yet.

As punishment for not making the GF they should be made to train all year with no breaks, you want a break, earn it, win the comp and have a few months off.

Instead they are whinging they arent getting extra time off for their garbage performance???? They actually want more perks [extra time off] for inferior job performance. Loser club culture at its best.

Yes but **why are they giving inferior performances**-perhaps there is something in the article -Tigers trouble with player safety ?? very worrying :white_frowning_face: :white_frowning_face:

Pea hearts with no mental fortitude and very little first grade ability. Down by a try, dont get the rub of the ref and they capitulate.

A lot of people are getting hot under the collar over something the Wessel wrote. The chances of the article having any truth connected to it are extremely remote.

It is purely a payback for one of the NRL’s blood sucking players management companies

The question of the last decade.

I put it down to a culture of zero accountability across the entire club. Just in regards to the on field performance, How many times over the last decade have you seen absolute garbage performances from players and they are named week after week. Sure depth has been an issue but id rather throw a kid in there [who couldnt have done any worse then the player they were replacing and who knows maybe a diamond could have been found if given the chance?] and at least the person they replaced would have had a reality check and realised they needed to improve their performance if they wanted to stay in first grade, get another contract, actually worry about their future prospects and given them a desire to pull their thumb out of their butt. Nope, time and time again the club announces the same inept squad.

Yepa Yepa Yepa @coivtny: ALL GOOD, I realised you were just having fun.

I'm certainly not blowing my own trumpet here, but it's amazing at times that I can get a feeling of a persons decency, genuineness and sence of humor from just one word.

Interesting that you "having had some personal dealings with the guy over the years". I reckon you would have some good/bad stories to tell.
I just can't get with the 'shock jock' stuff though.
The bloke has such a great capacity for good :v: ...but then on the other hand...:skull_and_crossbones:

You are right in most of what you say in this post, I have often wondered the same thing re under performing players continually being picked in the side, and some of the players in lower grades should be given the opportunity to show what they can do, look at the likes of Garner & Clarke I thought they both did a tremendous job for us this season:+1:

Exactly, they performed very well this year. If Packerlino were continuously picked based on their name and $$$ contract size and putting in their usual 'dominating' 50 meters and 8 tackles a game performances, these guys wouldnt have been able to find a place in the team. Makes you wonder who else over the years has moved on to another club or gave the game away completely cause they were perpetually stuck behind coach favourites and superstars like Jordan Rankin and Kyle Lovett etc. So many.

@tigeress The players did largely play at 100% though. That's why we finished 9th. If they didn't we would have been bottom two.
Our players at 100% are still only 60-70% of the ability of players at other clubs. When opposition rise to the occasion, we can't match them.

Thats very true, Tigers simply dont have the ability across the park, however I still get annoyed when i see massive smiles, laughing, high fives, making night club arrangements and bro hugs to the opposition team on field immediately after a Tigers loss though. I want to see them crying and throwing their guts up leaving nothing in the tank like every game is a grand final. Then id be happy and have no complaints about their performance or heart.

Aside from other good points mentioned by other posters in response to the question, I'd also add the club has not recruited a leader in the team that can pick them up by the scruff of the neck and get them through to win a game in the balance. That in addition to a real lack of mental toughness where the games we should almost automatically win just by showing up we struggle in and often loose to the lower teams whereas we often compete well against the stronger teams. AND, as others have said lack of accountability within the playing ranks has lead to an almost creeping complacency which Maguire is trying to get rid of.

Doesn’t the NRL accredit Journalist who cover the game?...how on earth they accredit Weedler, Hooper and Buzz is beyond me...these guys write articles about the game and players that lacks fact....just sensationalist journalisim....

The unfortunate reality is that in the spectrum of League followers, some like to read validated and quality edited journalism, others like trash tabloid.

Same as some folks will read The Times and others TV Soap Magazine.

So Dunny Weedler, despite intense hate from everyone I know and correspond with, someone somewhere must read his stuff, otherwise SMH wouldn't publish him.

It's the world according to Rupert....

People calling a lask of accountability over the years are way off... There's been many high profile players dropped since potters days... Just look back they're there

It doesn't matter how hard you attempt to flog a player either physically or mentally @2005magic to make up for "said lack of accountability" or "creeping complacency" if the said player just isn't capable of it.

The Japanese tried this sorta stuff on the Burma Railway and lots of other places during the 2nd W.W., and yes I know this is a very extreme example.

One of our posters said recently "I don't like working here I'm just here for the money". It's highly unlikely the employee/player will perform 'at their best' if that is the only reason they go to work.

Most people/employees/players need to feel their opinion is appreciated.
Everyone should know that a boss who involves his employees in the day to day running of the business/team and is interested in his employees/players, will get the 'best' out of his employees/players/team.

Would you rather be flogged, or given the right amount of encouragement in the right way, 'to do your best'?

To a degree, but there were still players who put in stinkers and got picked again the following week, it was an improvement on previous years, but not what is needed to turn the place around.
