Tiger troubles with player safety

They don’t come any tougher than Bellamy, but the playing group at the Storm is good enough to handle the demands. Our playing group obviously isn’t.

Helps win you win most weeks I guess

I really would love a player or 2 to come out and stick up for the club... This is clearly not going to help us with recruitment..
I have a gut feeling after reading this that this was leaked to assist Matterson get a release without any problems by his manager..
I'm sorry but I am sick of our club just sitting back with all this rubbish happening and NOT coming out and sticking up for the club and us fans.. Its like they have gone on holidays

benji actually did when he re-signed. said he loved the direction McGuire was taking the club.

robbie also said in his retirement speech that he thought McGuire was the coach for the tigers for a long time.

I agree though, we need more. mbye is captain and should be doing this.

The article mentioned a serious injury at training. I can only imagine it was Rowdy’s but that was a freak accident involving Matulino’s head. Ironically, if it is Rowdy they are referring to then he is obviously ok with it because he wants a new contract.

the players it names are our older guys on the way out. I get it they dont want to bust their arse for the last meal ticket. No mention of really any first graders. Im so happy that madge is here. As we have mentioned year after yeah we seem to be the dudes that get pushed around both physically and in the larger picture by other clubs. That looks like stopping here. A hard nose coach that is gunna make you work i love it.

If there are 30 first graders not happy - piss them all off and replace them with 30 who are prepared to work for their coach. Maybe that way we will finish above ninth!!!!!!!

That is the worry....

Exact same stuff raised by Souths vets.

Players talk. We will find it hard to recruit.

Written by Weedler.... Not one quote from a concerned player, not one fact presented. Just a bunch of words and hearsay. The closest he came was to reference a hotline the club set up that has received one message in the past 12 months since its inception. I would agree that there is a culture problem though. That is that there are too many in and around the playing group that are soft between the ears. Look where that has gotten us.

Reads like it's a jab or two from Matterson camp. Given the press last week as pro tiger stance on his situation. I could be wrong though.

Got about 2 paragraphs in and thought to myself "this sounds a lot like Dunny Weedler".

What a cancer of a human being, no need to give much thought to this one.

Lawry's injury was a collision, not from wrestling.

So, it is not that one.

Well, except that all this came out at Souths also.

No one defended Madge then...the leaders were respectful, but also not openly saying keep him. Burgess brothers, Inglis (well known dispute with Madge).

Forget who wrote the article, we need Mbye (as Captain) to say it is all not true....

And Bennett's come out last night and said Souths had a failed season, despite finishing Top 4. "They made it this far last year and failed then also". It's a list of failures for the club since Madge left, since 2014.

So that's dandy that maybe or maybe not some Souths players think Madge trained them too hard. Maybe the players got complacent or big-headed. A lot of that 2014 core premiership team will have moved on by 2020 - there will only be 5 left of them at Bunnies next year.

I posted in another thread a few weeks back, several players coming out in support of Madge, particularly Sam Burgess. I had direct quotes from the papers.

I said it before, if Madge can flog our players to one premiership in his tenure, I'll take that over the limp peahearted stuff of the past 10 years.

Yes, but even having success was not enough for them to put up with Madge's ways long term. It is a legit issue, Madge did not see it back then either. The hope was he had changed a bit with time.

Quote:

AT one o’clock on Tuesday, Michael Maguire welcomed his newest recruit to the club and a few hours later he was gone.

Some within the club say the writing was on the wall.

Others say he never saw his sacking coming

You can't flog average players to a comp win.

He had some all time greats at Souths.

We need to recruit elite players, but who is going to come? We can all say this is crap, but the issue has been around for a few years. Premiership winning coach in 2014....not one club wanted him by 2017 for a reason.

I have praised him all season, but this is a legit issue.

You speak as if it is fact, which it is not, it is rumour only.

You don't know why Madge left Souths, nobody here can claim to know for sure. Therefore you can't use the why as an argument now.

Haven't heard a single Tigers player speak about over-training or over-work, only Matto, who by equal rumour is a dog coward looking for more money.

So Weedler reports that it's not just about money, it's about player safety and workload. And that's the same spin that first came out when the news broke about Matto, then the papers started reporting "no it's definitely about money" and the over-training thing was shelved, but now it's about over-training again.

In fact the senior players, says Weedler, were dubious about training on after Rd 25. I wouldn't be surprised, lazy bastards. Oh and there have been disagreements apparently, with 3 other players, the same 3 players most supporters would be happy to see the back of due to their high contracts and low output.

Weedler is a toxic sycophant, I don't take anything he says seriously and neither should you.

The issue at souths was not being trained too hard, it was senior players like Inglis saying their bodies were not okay, and being told to play through it.

So, you have Inglis....Matterson.....and a host of blokes in between singing the same song.

It is important Madge improves his player management skills. Look at my posts here and I have praised him all season just about.

But this issue has been around for a while.....was really hoping his time off had helped him mature a bit in terms of man management.

Don't know? Madge was fired mate... he did not 'leave'.

He had no idea it was coming. Why? Because the players led the revolt. Think about it logically.

Did not see it coming.....fired abruptly.....ask yourself why.

Sorry this is all nonsense based on rumour. To assume on behalf of the rumour that Madge has to do XYZ, fairly arrogant of you to assume you know what went down and how it went down.

Prime witnesses - Inglis and Matterson, two blokes also with public mental health issues. Not to stigmatise their mental health by any means, but blokes who have their own struggles under pressure.

Who are the host of other blokes? Haven't heard a single Tigers player complain about Madge, nor has Matterson said anything officially. Did Inglis say anything officially? Has anyone said anything official about playing hurt or over-training?

Gosh I suppose Madge forced Robbie Farah to run onto LO with a fractured leg.

Souths punted him for exactly this reason.

Right now we really need Mbye to stand up in the media and say all is okay. Mbye needs to show some leadership here. Too many stories are along the same lines, but the captain has not said a thing since the Matterson story broke.

Your own quote - "some say writing was on the wall, some say he didn't see it coming."

So actually neither is the official version. Whether or not he was speared by his players is speculation. Tim Sheens and Mick Potter and Jason Taylor, by some accounts, were also victims of player revolts - shall we make it 4 straight for the Tigers?
