Tiger troubles with player safety

Right now we really need Mbye to stand up in the media and say all is okay. Mbye needs to show some leadership here. Too many stories are along the same lines, but the captain has not said a thing since the Matterson story broke

Mbye isn't going to say squat without the club's instruction, and Wests appear to be keeping officially quiet on this one. Mbye isn't even technically the captain any more, the season is over and the captain appointment for 2020 is pending.

So, you have Inglis…Matterson…and a host of blokes in between singing the same song.
It is important Madge improves his player management skills. Look at my posts here and I have praised him all season just about.
But this issue has been around for a while…was really hoping his time off had helped him mature a bit in terms of man management.

Sorry this is all nonsense based on rumour. To assume on behalf of the rumour that Madge has to do XYZ, fairly arrogant of you to assume you know what went down and how it went down.

Prime witnesses - Inglis and Matterson, two blokes also with public mental health issues. Not to stigmatise their mental health by any means, but blokes who have their own struggles under pressure.

Who are the host of other blokes? Haven't heard a single Tigers player complain about Madge, nor has Matterson said anything officially. Did Inglis say anything officially? Has anyone said anything official about playing hurt or over-training?

Gosh I suppose Madge forced Robbie Farah to run onto LO with a fractured leg.

You can believe whatever you want mate.

He won Souths a comp....then they fired him abruptly. Why? Because they desperately wanted Seibold? Or the senior players did not like his methods. You decide.

I believe nothing, that's the point. I don't know exactly why they punted him and all the speculation in the world won't change that. I don't assume or pre-judge Maguire based on some rumour from the past.

Same with Matto, for all the noise, don't know for sure what is actually happening and why he wants out. But I am against him *because* he wants out, that's enough for me, the reason is not specifically important.

The club could have put the fire out weeks ago, but have been drip feeding the media.

We need to recruit elite players and, BS or true, stories like these need to be rebuked publicly. The top clubs would put these fires out in a day.

But it is not a 'rumor'. It is the reason Madge was fired.

**Quote: He seemingly had a ticket for life at Redfern. Maguire was a genuine folk hero at a club steeped in tradition, lore and history. So it is hard to grasp where it all went wrong. Maguire was not even given the chance to undertake the rebuild, leaving Redfern this week “by mutual agreement”.

Speculation started to grow just 18 months after the famous title. A pre-season camp at Russell Crowe’s property in northern NSW that saw Luke Keary walk out and catch a plane home reflected poorly on the coach at both ends of the spectrum. He was seen by the players to be unprotective and worked the players into the ground, relentless in his obsessive approach. Player burnout was the constant whisper out of Redfern.**

The bottom line is we need to recruit elite players and Madge has never done that. Crowe and Richo did at Souths.

We can't have this perception / Matterson story just hanging around all off season.

The club has to be proactive here, for once......

Quote: The Rugby League Players Association has **confirmed** that senior Tigers players have had lengthy talks with the union about Maguire’s decision to train them through to the grand final.

Well, if that is not true....it is a very easy denial.

A group of players went to the union. Weidler can't just make that up. If he did, deny it and sue him.

I've ordered 6 truck loads of cement to arrive at Concord Monday..

Fair dinkum..

Reeks of player agents, ex staff and a few disgruntled players.

Interesting mousse leaving.

Using the old welfare card to push their agenda on tigers again.

Get new players then

@ElleryHanley 'Players' could be whining to the RLPA simply because they booked their Bali holidays for September in back n July and, due to the extra training, they've had to cancel.
I agree with others above, this looks like a refresh of Matterson and manager's complaint. Perhaps they're having a hard time finding a new home for young Ryan now that Maguire has said he'll play hardball.
Imagine having Bellamy or Stuart as coach. I'd just about guarantee neither of them would touch Matterson after all the tears.

Reading this rubbish makes me sick ! These players are highly paid individuals that obviously by all accounts do not want to apply themselves to the demands that is required to be a professional athlete in there chosen field .
As a supporter and member I am embarrassed to be associated with these individuals !
This club needs to get a back bone if they ever want to compete.
The players , journalists the NRL treat our club with contempt . The CEO has to be shown the door as in my opinion he just has not got what it takes for the job at hand, this club has a soft underbelly as the people that run the club are also SOFT !
Honestly reading this garbage is appalling, the hide of these players complaining how hard the coach is ... who are the real losers in our club! the individuals that only will ever know real success when they watch others on Tv achieving it playing in a finals series! because getting there is to much HARD WORK for this lot .. what an embarrassment!!!!!👎👎👎👎👎👎👎🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

I remember Benji Marshall who is a senior player upon announcing his re-signing on the Matty Johns show...that he credited Maguire with never getting him fitter and really liked what he was doing at the Club and a big factor in deciding to go again..

Did Dunny interview Benji for his scoop....?

There are couple of disgruntled senior players at the club and they usually are the ones who talk to the journo's and the player unions. Don't think Matterson is behind this article.

@ElleryHanley Keary was shown the door by Crowe ...Crowe had the issue with Keary get your facts right !

This is all about sowing the seeds for a strong case, by the Matterson management team.

Most of the two bob jurnos are in the player agents back pocket and its payback time for the Danny.

Matterson management team must be really worried that a release is not going to happen

I seen Cooper Cronk on the TV the other day with a massive black eye he got from a contact training session.
I don’t think that any of the Roosters players would go crying to the media.
Madge go and buy a bag of cement and tell the pansies to harden up.

Our players must be the biggest bunch of pussies if this is true. Perhaps they should go and spend a season or two under Bellamy or Stuart, then come back and see how good they actually have it.

Has to be a BS story though, no doubt stoked by Matterson’s dubious management team.

If true .... and it really just something of a feed from Orr brothers to gain a little traction .... then the group is having it too easy. But would be very surprised if Matterson had it any easier as they look super fit and their training methodology would not be breeze.

Souths senior players did complain - but then look at them since he has left.

George Burgess from best prop in the game in 2014 to a NSW Cup player on hsi way out

Sam Burgess isnt the same player - filling his game with dirty plays just to survive

Greg retired drunk - perhaps it was him not the coaches

Madge works them hard - prob hard then most but it also wins comps with clubs that otherwise wouldn't - some people don't want to work that hard (me included) so no critcism but find another job

Agree 100%
This is a stitch up article .... once again players and agents trying to bent it their way .... club needs to stay firm and ignore this crap.
