Tiger troubles with player safety

I feel a meme

Players played harder and earned more in the 80s

Players today complain about what other earn, stay down like award winning actors and can’t handle the cement dished to them everyday

**Quote: He seemingly had a ticket for life at Redfern. Maguire was a genuine folk hero at a club steeped in tradition, lore and history. So it is hard to grasp where it all went wrong. Maguire was not even given the chance to undertake the rebuild, leaving Redfern this week “by mutual agreement”.

Speculation started to grow just 18 months after the famous title. A pre-season camp at Russell Crowe’s property in northern NSW that saw Luke Keary walk out and catch a plane home reflected poorly on the coach at both ends of the spectrum. He was seen by the players to be unprotective and worked the players into the ground, relentless in his obsessive approach. Player burnout was the constant whisper out of Redfern.**

Notice mutual agreement is in inverted commas ,
The mutual agreement is standard Line, rarely it is said that anyone is fired , it’s about keeping dignity . That’s what the good clubs do , they do not tell the world we fired so and so.

What everyone writes on the forum is based on rumours and not fact so no need to argue it and keep saying is this fact As I can say the same thing about direct quotes on tv or press conferences as without full context it is not fact ...
I can argue

The problem is Madge does have prior form, and criticism may be all valid but I think it’s being used as a excuse anyone

The issue at souths was not being trained too hard, it was senior players like Inglis saying their bodies were not okay, and being told to play through it.

So, you have Inglis....Matterson.....and a host of blokes in between singing the same song.

It is important Madge improves his player management skills. Look at my posts here and I have praised him all season just about.

But this issue has been around for a while.....was really hoping his time off had helped him mature a bit in terms of man management.

Who are the host of players? You mention Inglis he apparently had shoulders so bad he could not take the field without pain killing injections. Siebold continued exactly the same thing.

Only player I have heard is Matterson, who has an ulterior motive considering he is trying to get out of his contract to get more money. There were also rumours about him and his attitude at Parramatta and the Roosters, so maybe he is the problem?

The success of the Storm and the Rorters is not only about having elite players on their books, it's about incredibly hard work by the playing group. "No group of players work harder", "This group of players is the hardest working group of players I've coached" etc etc
We don't have the raw talent that these teams have and won't have for some time (if ever)! But we can match them with the work we put in.
These Tigers players that are whinging and whining need to be told to put up or ship out! Simples!
I will back Madge 100% on this. This group is soft. Always has been. Now there is a coach who won't take soft. So toughen up lads!
It ain't going to get easier under Maguire any time soon.

Sorry this is all nonsense based on rumour. To assume on behalf of the rumour that Madge has to do XYZ, fairly arrogant of you to assume you know what went down and how it went down.

Prime witnesses - Inglis and Matterson, two blokes also with public mental health issues. Not to stigmatise their mental health by any means, but blokes who have their own struggles under pressure.

Who are the host of other blokes? Haven't heard a single Tigers player complain about Madge, nor has Matterson said anything officially. Did Inglis say anything officially? Has anyone said anything official about playing hurt or over-training?

Gosh I suppose Madge forced Robbie Farah to run onto LO with a fractured leg.

You can believe whatever you want mate.

He won Souths a comp....then they fired him abruptly. Why? Because they desperately wanted Seibold? Or the senior players did not like his methods. You decide.

I remember Benji Marshall who is a senior player upon announcing his re-signing on the Matty Johns show...that he credited Maguire with never getting him fitter and really liked what he was doing at the Club and a big factor in deciding to go again..

Did Dunny interview Benji for his scoop....?

Everyone stating that players have to speak up don't realize how the media play the game. They aren't looking for a factual and balanced piece. They are looking for drama.

I reckon most people just ignore this dribble anyway.

If it comes down to the coach whose won a premiership and a playing group whose produced diddlly squat, I ‘ll take the coach thanks. If players want to leave, let them leave. They’re only pawns.

The bottom line is we need to recruit elite players and Madge has never done that. Crowe and Richo did at Souths.

We can't have this perception / Matterson story just hanging around all off season.

The club has to be proactive here, for once......

Quote: The Rugby League Players Association has **confirmed** that senior Tigers players have had lengthy talks with the union about Maguire’s decision to train them through to the grand final.

Well, if that is not true....it is a very easy denial.

A group of players went to the union. Weidler can't just make that up. If he did, deny it and sue him.

Could I just ask EH for you to post the sites where I can see what the Souths and Wests club have said about Madge officially (apart from Mutual agreement) so I can look them up and then believe you.

If you can't then it is all just made up and tomorrow chip wrappers. Thanks.

Wonder why Pascoe insisted Maguire kept last year coaching staff this year.

Wonder if Andrew Webster getting the punt too?

They were the words from his actual mouth Earl..not sources Danny 'this column understands' Wiedler...

Another thing that sounds off why does Dunny search out Pascoe for comment...Shouldn't it be Maguire since it's his methods being brought into question...?

@WT2K
I saw it somewhere that the players were OK with the extra training except one. The players are contracted up until the end of the season which I believe is after the grand final is played and I can see Madges view that why should they be rewarded for missing the 8 with time off if anything it should make them hungary for next season and if they all dont have their oars in the water then get out of the boat.

I have a couple of sources in the club. All year their feedback was most consistent on these two points

“The tigers are training the house down”

“The players seem to respect Madge”

So, Madge works them super hard and isn’t their mate.

I have zero doubt Madge is a tough task master. I have zero doubt some players won’t like that. In fact some won’t have the bodies to cope with it (like Inglis)

But. Every tigers fan out there KNOWS the Tigers need to toughen up.

Somehow we became a soft bellied club. The opposite of our dual roots.

I know we have a tough three years coming under Madge. Culture change takes years.

They may have had contracts for this year or the people that Madge wanted may have aswell.

That story has four direct claims...

1. A group of players unhappy.

2. A young player hurt at training.

3. A player hurt during wrestling.

4. Senior players went to the union to complain.

Inference about the injuries= Both injuries not dealt with properly.

The club can simply release a statement saying all four things are not true.

Pascoe? Barry? Moses? Where are they.

Would take 5 mins to deny it all, if it is not true.

Regardless of the debated facts currently playing out, if I was Maguire and the players are still scheduled to train this week, at the next session they would be getting thanked for their additional effort and told, see you in November guys.

As for Matterson, I hate greed in anyone and regardless of other potential issues, he seems to have that in spades.

If they know it’s crap, they don’t have to say anything. You want them to make a statement every time a germ of a journalist makes outlandish claims? They got better things to do. As for you claims about Keary, it was well documented at the time that he had a confrontation with Crowe. Obviously Madge’s fault.
