Tigers and Storm Player Loan Swap

Storm have to be prepared to pay what Momo is on and we have to be prepared to pay what grant is on. That's not unreasonable, and it's how it's done in many sports. Unless a club needs to chip in for an overpaid player.

There couldn't be more than 50k difference in their salaries anyway. It really is chicken feed stuff, and needs to be focused on how the nrl can support young players getting more game time

I might be missing something, but isn't this the same as if a player signs a contract with us and their old club pays a portion of his salary to move him on? I.e. BJ Leilua or Doueihi?

Surely the whole amount doesn't go onto our cap?

I don’t see the funding the issue both clubs have agreed to the deal. Besides both players would have already received payments coming out of each clubs cap making it cheaper.

The issue will be more around players playing whilst on loan against the club they will remain loyal towards.

The league HQ brains just can’t comprehend how to make it happen or why it’s important. Their pencils became blunt after writing players names on paper.

Player Loans have been used forever in soccer and work well. The ESL also allows it so if the NRL can’t get it sorted it says a lot about their management or intentions. If they want more teams and or expansion it would give a lot of young players stuck in reserve grade for the Roosters, Storm, Broncos, Rabbits to play first grade earlier and get them ready. It will allow battling clubs to get access to short term help.

It will also stop injury to a key position killing a teams finals chances as they may be able to organise a swap deal for another position where they have surplus talent.

It should be rubber stamped on the proviso it’s done before June 30 each year and only involves players < 50 games NRL experience .

It can be rorted badly. What’s to stop a hand shake deal loaning out Tedesco to the Broncos should the Roosters season falter for Darius Boyd. They are in the same money but not equal.

Yeah, similar to that which I wrote earlier. Players all over the competition are taking up a discounted cap amount for the club that they are playing for, with those discount monies taking up space in their former club's cap.

We all want to watch the best players in action, with this type of loan being another way to improve the product, whilst giving the youngsters more game time and opportunities.

Just throwing this out there as a random thought. If grant swap doesn't happen do you think the roosters would be interested for their young hooker. I'm sure politis would be able to get it approved

They are in desperate need for a centre for 1 year and just tried to get Brett morris. Trouble would be that Robinson said he wanted to keep Momo, and we might not get him back

You are 100% spot on.

That’s the issue as this is the first time in our sport. (And we have a highly regulated salary cap). They want to have it bulletproof to protect any future dealings or scenarios.

To take it to an extreme. If the swap deal was a $500k player for a $150k player. There would be uproar if the new club didn’t in some way show capacity under their cap to take that player on whilst on loan.

If not completed correctly and carefully the strong would just get stronger and stronger.

You're a genius. Verills is a gun.

Would only work for us if we signed a Momo extension before any swap took place. Hopefully we're working on an extended Momo deal right now.

Roosters didn’t want Moma. Why would they change their mind?

They lost Latrell and Billy is injured.
They are trying to get Morris
Momo is arguably better.

Because they only have one centre now?

Yeh, makes sense, a lot of sense! Chooks were probably hoping to get Verills some game time to reward him for his efforts when Friend was injured .

Verrills is a gun.
Friend is surely on the decline.

Isnt Radley a decent option at 9 also for them?

I reckon Verrills would look good in a tigers jersey.

Roosters will probably use Verrills this year so I don’t see them letting him go for a year. He’s very good though.
