Tigers in bid for a spot of revenge

THIS time last season Parramatta killed off Wests Tigers' premiership campaign for a heartbreaking fourth straight year. In front of 37,272 fans at the SFS, Jarryd Hayne's Parramatta Eels beat a gutted Wests Tigers 26-18.

Now, in the corresponding round one year on, the Tigers have been gifted a golden opportunity for sweet revenge … beat Parramatta this Sunday and this time the Eels go out.

Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens is acutely aware of the parallels from last year and has banned his players from talking to the media about the game.

It is like the famous Fawlty Towers line "Don't mention the war" in The Germans episode.

"We know the shoe is on the other foot this time around," said one Wests Tigers player.

"Tim has spoken about that but doesn't want us to say anything or give them any ammo. He said the media would bring up the fact they knocked us out last year. I am walking egg shells talking about it."

Parramatta is two points outside the top eight but need to win their remaining three games to qualify for the semi-finals.

Wests Tigers have secured a finals position and are now head-strong about obtaining a top four or even top two finish.

"I think they [Parramatta] need to win the rest of their games," said Wests Tigers forward Liam Fulton.

"We want to consolidate a top four spot and hopefully top two. It should be a pretty feisty game.

"They have to win to make the finals. It will be a desperate game."

It was Hayne who sparkled in last year's game. He was in the middle of the freakish run which drove Parramatta to the NRL grand final.

The Daily Telegraph back-page headline read: "FREAK SHOW - Hayne magic gets Eels home in thriller".

The Tigers now want their get-square. Before the media ban was in place, Wests Tigers prop Todd Payten told Rugby League Week: "It's do-or-die for the Eels this time around.

"They knocked us out last year so it would be nice to return the favour.

"Hayne turned the game with a chip-and-chase that got a freakish bounce but we still reckon if it had bounced the other way Tim Moltzen would have scored down the other end."

in other words, rip hayne's head off!

every time Hayne returns the ball I'll be yelling out what I always do .. "HIT HIM, SMASH HIM, RIP HIS HEAD OFF"

Thats pretty close to my line…

"Hit the Show-off, Now Hit him Again & Finish him off..."

What is best in life
To crush hayne, see him driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of all parammatans.

With apologies to the gov of california.

I will admit I don't think I would be all too upset to see that showpony Hayne suffer the same fate as our TNT did last year.

Either that or have Ellis line him up and pick him off with a big (but legal) shot.

There would be no better feeling then ending Parras finals hopes for 2010\. I'd finally be able to get over the heartbreak of last years loss.

For me there is no better team to beat than Parra. I have so many mates that support them it gives me the –--. I call them window lickers as most Parra supporters are. so to end their season on sunday would be awesome and i cant wait to scream my lungs out all game. FIRE UP BOYS

I have a theory about Parra supporters, 99% of their supporter base are either pensioners or degenerates.

I support 2 teams, The Mighty Wests Tigers and whoever is playing Parra.Lets knock them off the Hayne plane or train or whatever it is they're on this week and flush them down the hayne drain.Go you Tigers!!!!!!!!!!

Being an older Magpie fan and witnessing many a struggle with Manly at Lidcombe oval in my younger years the hate for Manly has diminished a bit over the years only taken over by the Slimy Eels I would love nothing more than seeing the PLANE crash land and being destroyed and Parra Fans start to Boo there own team such losers!!!!!

beat them on the score board, and absolutely "beat them physically", for this one time only, do not hold back.
"clouds of dust, & buckets of blood", bruises, cuts, black eyes, head wounds, give it to them all over the place.
if this is done during the game they will lose interest.

They need to be on there game for the full 80 minutes otherwise Parra will burn you. Look at last year, we had them for most of the game.

Tigers looking forward - not back

Twelve months on from having their NRL final hopes virtually ended by Parramatta, Wests Tigers say there has been no talk of payback ahead on Sunday's showdown at Parramatta Stadium.

The game has already sold out, as the Eels look to keep alive their 2010 season, with the fourth-placed Tigers already certain of a first finals appearance in five years.

A year ago, a Jarryd Hayne-inspired Parramatta ran out 26-18 winners in one of the clashes of the season, but Tigers backrower Chris Heighington and coach Tim Sheens say the match has not been mentioned in their build-up to the game.

"It will be a full house out at Parra and it should be a great game, but losing last year is forgotten, we don't owe them anything, we are just going to go out there and get into them," said Heighington, who will make 150th appearance for the club on Sunday.

"I think top four finish and a home semi is imperative to win the premiership and it starts at Parra this weekend, that is our focus, not what happened last year."

Sheens echoed the statements of Heighington and said his side had no-one to blame but themselves for missing the top-eight last year after losing to the Gold Coast in round 25.

"They didn't put us out last year, we had to win one more game and we lost," Sheens said.

"From our point of view that was very disappointing, but we are not talking about revenge, that is for the media to beat up or for an angle.

"We have already beaten them this season, so really that game is not an issue."

Heighington did admit that making the finals for the first time since the grand final win in 2005 has released the pressure valve on the players and this made the Tigers a dangerous side for opponents.

"It has been pretty bad over the last five years not making the finals and I think we are pretty much guaranteed one now, hopefully we can win the next three and go into them with a bit of form," he said.

"It has relieved us of the pressure a little bit and hopefully with that freedom we can hurt other teams, but we know Parra are going to be tough so we need to the basics right."

"But I would like to think there is a bit of pressure off us and we can relax and win and get a home semi."

Heighington also said he is still waiting to hear if England are interested in selecting him for their squad for the Four Nations competition in October and November.

The 28-year-old qualifies for England through his Durham-born father and admitted he would love the chance to play after being constantly overlooked by NSW and Country Origin selectors.

"I haven't heard from England and no-one has got in touch with me I haven't with them," he said.

"There is still another three weeks to go before the season finishes and about eight weeks until the Four Nations starts so there is no hurry just yet," he said.
