I can’t believe what I’m hearing…... oh we don’t need RTS we have Tui.
Tui is not a proven fullback, he is still a bit overweight as well, I do however think he’ll be a good player. I think our fans overvalue the players we have way too much, don’t get me wrong I’m guilty of that too but when a player of RTS quality is avaible, you have money and your current fullback isn’t proven at all you chase after him.
What RTS did during the WC shows he still has heaps of talent, he would instantly be our best player if he was to sign.
I personally believe we’re lacking that X-factor in attack and if we were to snatch RTS we’d be a top 8 team. I’m not sure if I’m the only one but I’m not too excited about the season ahead I reckon our list isn’t strong enough compared to the other clubs. I do think our pack will be impressive and create a lot to go forward but we lack that spark in attack that will be missing with teddy gone and RTS has that spark that only very few fullbacks have.
I think he’ll probably go to union but if he wanted to stay in the NRL and it was between us and the Rabbits I’d be backing us to sign him.
Tui would make a good centre, he’s quite big and also has some good footwork and his defense is also good. Give him a bit of space and he’ll create chances, if not at centre then at 14 where he could really play anywhere from 1-7.
I can’t believe what I’m hearing - Yes me too Teddy23.
I mentioned in other threads the following.
RTS is not available until 2019 (probably never for us, that is ok though).
Tui is a recognised full back - saying he isn't doesn't make that correct.
He reads the play better than RTS.
He is a better full back defender than RTS.
Sets up his outside backs to score tries.
Does not hog the ball - Like Teddy and RTS.
His calls to the team from the back will be invaluable.
Didn't have any trouble keeping up with Teddy to score that try under the post.
On 2017 form he is a better proposition than RTS.
He is 100% fit (forget the shape).
Less than half the cost of RTS.
Weigh all that up and I'll stick with Tui thanks.
Sorry Russ I just don’t agree with you at all.
Tui is not a recognised fullback, and RTS is a proven fullback and is twice the player, it’s reality.
Tui could’ve even crack it at fullback for the Warriors reserve grade.
Looking at your points:
“He’s a better fullback defender than RTS”…... well when was the last time he even played fullback so I don’t understand how you can assess that. So that’s incorrect
“He reads the play better than RTS”.... well RTS in space is freakish, he reads broken plays better than anyone in the game. Incorrect
“Sets up his outside backs to score tries”..... oh but RTS doesn’t?
“Does not hog the ball”.... Tedesco is a hog no
Doubt about that but RTS really isn’t his problem all 2017 was him not taking the line on as much as he should have. Also incorrect
“His calls to the team from the back will be invaluable”..... once again I think any fullback can do this it’s not rocket science, and when has Tui showcased this trait cause I don’t recall him playing fullback consistently in recent memory.
“Tui had no trouble keeping up with teddy”..... what and RTS wouldn’t?
“2017 form I disagree whole heartedly that Tui was the better player”.... the first half of the season he was playing reserve grade at wing, and the second half he showed promise but didn’t really set the world on fire. Whereas RTS had a pretty poor year but still averaged roughly around 175m a game and didn’t find much difficulties scoring tries and finding his wingers score as well. And if we’re going on the World Cup RTS had a much better campaign than Tui. The only reason RTS has copped a bit is because he has big expectations, but if you’re basing the performances without looking at expectations etc you’d pick RTS.
“He is 100% fit”...... we don’t know for sure do we he is still very bulky, whereas RTS would be a lot more fitter than Tui.
Cost wise you’re right but that’s what happens if you want to buy wuality players that can win you games, you need to pay there price tags. We’ve got one more spot and have the money to make it happen.
Now don’t get me wrong I think Tui will be a solid first grader, I hope he proves me wrong when I say this but I don’t think he’s gonna be as good as we all hope he will be in comparison to the other fullbacks in the game. He could transition into centre quite well, maybe even a utility role at 14.
