Tigers looking to sign Israel falou

I'd love to have him. He's a much more complete footballer now than even when he left as shown by his immediate dominance in Rugby and he's the sort of marquee signing that changes the mentality of those around him. While he himself might not be the difference between us being a force and being also rans the mentality that he brings to the club and confidence he gives to the other players about the standing and direction of the club they play for will certainly be positive.

And for once for us to land a sought after player would be thrilling.

All this from a thread started from smoking gunge the insider that knows it all but keeps getting it wrong? Please

Agree 100% has smoking gunge ever got anything correct? It's obvious he trolls various forums and claims to be ITK (in the know)

Making someone a contract offer and getting them over the line are two very different things.
I for one would not be happy if we were not making offers for this type of player.
Given also the recent media coverage relating to marque players and the potential support from the NRL .

Why would we want someone who is big strong fast and can break the line and can out leap anyone, if we were going to pay Marshall 800000 and piss **tedesco** and reddy off, I would be doing anything to make it happen. Genuine superstar

We've made the mistake before of letting our young talent go to sign a big name marquee.
I'd pass on Folau at that price.

Taking Webcke over Folau…..that was a big statement. Maybe too big. Fair enough.

**I do honestly think Folau could be anything. IMO he is like a new athletic version of Meninga.** (Don't pass me back the joint just yet....)

Anyway, this is all probably moot but which forward would you take currently instead of Folau? There are only a select few forwards who would prove to be be more beneficial. Yes, players like Bolton, Lillyman, Papalii would be good additions, but to take them over Folau? That's crazy talk!
Isn't it plainly obvious that Folau is in another class of player entirely?

(You can pass it back now.....)

We've already seen the modern day Meninga. His name is Inglis.

I know 1 thing. If he comes back, he'll be playing for QLD in origin too. Ouch!

Under the new rules folau will play for blues they changed them unless NSW give QLD folau

Once you have played for a team, I highly doubt you can swap, add to that he is a passionate QLDer and I doubt he would play for NSW

The NRL team that pays $4 million for him will be the next NRL team to go broke.. What happens if he gets injured in his first game and is out for the rest of the season? Or he suddenly loses form? What insurance is their for the $4million investment. Think Benji Marshall 2012/2013.

The same could be said for any player which is on big money. Farah isn't too far off that much per year.

This would be an interesting scenario… If he registers a new ARLC Contract, you would assume the new rules would apply based on his origin at the age of 14\. In this instance, he would be playing for NSW.

Funnily enough, if he does play for NSW, his children would have the option of choosing either NSW or Qld under the new rules as he has played SOO for both States?!

I'd take him into the team, he has been good coming from THAT other code and is killing it in rugby if he wants a million a season I think it will be worth it, but dunno where teddy would fit in the team I'd feel bad for him if we did get falou

True true .. i rather get GI to the club
Get the best and forget the rest

I think we will get James O'Conner. Do the maths on the space in our salary cap for next year. He would make an excellent centre.

Its funny it feels like we should have lots of space next year. Though when you go the maths we will only basically have Benji's offer. See below for my workings

Working backward on our cap. We could afford to pay the following in 2013:
Benji - 750K
Ashford 300K
Pettybourne 200K
Miller 200K
Utai - 150K
Lote - 200K
Groat -150k (??)
Bell 100K
Spence 50K
= 2.1m
\
\
\
Take off signing / or planning to sign some of the younger guys
Taupau 200K
Richards 200K
Brooks 250K back loaded
Moses 100K (rest in 20's cap)
Simona 200K
Lovett +100K
Performance based upgrade to Sue, Nofo, Ava, Jack 300K for the four (?)
= 1.35m

Leaves only 0.75m. Interesting that this adds to Benji's offer. Working on this year being at the Cap, it looks like we just didn't have the money to pay him more.

Point - Blair would have to go to get Falou.

Nice maths. Works out really well!

I'd say just keep it in reserve. Having a few hundred k is great if we ever need to resign someone or to buy good players. I'd rather us stay under next year and buy ourselves a good forward than buy a few poor ones now.
