"People just have to ride this year out". Lol…

I cant wait til 2018 when we can begin another 3 years of rebuilding.

What's to rebuild in 2018 with our whole cap to spend?

We are likely to lose most of that 2018 cap money if we keep Tedesco, Moses and Woods. There a lot of clubs with big money to spend. It's the old "poor get poorer and rich get richer" treadmill.

Pretty simple, find a way to get the team to be able to defend and our attack will look after itself. The trouble is that has been the case for a long time now and as each year rolls on the problem never goes away

For some reason Steve just popped into my mind…

I wonder how he's goin?

I reckon he is here, as reading a reasonably recent post prompted me to immediately think of him. I'll get back to you if my memory clicks.

I hope with all these players off contract next year as well as JT at the end of his term that the club doesn't feel pressured to retain JT before its clear it's deserved, in an attempt to sway players decisions or to ease pressure retention wise.
The coach would put pen to paper in a heartbeat….. The next coaching appt is as important as retaining teddy and mitch

I can't help but laugh at the thinking that we just need to ride out 2017 and everything will be OK from 2018 onwards. Why would anyone believe that based on our history? Remember, we are 3/17

Never a truer word has been spoken if Jt is resigned it must be because he has achieved in 2017 because in 2015 and 2016 now he has been an abject failure.

No, Not an abject failure. Des is not an abject failure at the doggies for not making the finals this year.

I am no Taylor fan… Ok I retract that, man why the hell did he leave Wests in 1993? He took Wests to the semi's and frigging was an awesome player. I wish we kept him.

But as a coach, I don't like his style. Yet why would'nt Wests barely make the top 10 in 2016? Were we better then Storm, Cowboys, Sharks, Broncos or any of the teams in the 8? I say the Rabbotoh's, Titans and even Manly had a better team on paper.

What everyone has said and every tigers fan knows. We need to get our defence right. Firing Kidwell was the best decision in this respect. Hopefully we can still play the fast attack footy that makes our game's very watchable (I remember us losing to Brisbane 18/0, but I was at the edge of the seat because every run both sides almost scored from the other end of the park. If we are going to loose, lets be entertaining unlike st George.).

Taylor hasn't failed. He has though to up the game next year as coach. Fire him if he dosen't make the 8, but just make sure that Geoff Toovey or Shane Flanagan is signed up to replace him first.

In the end it came down to winning the games we should have won and won comfortably and not getting flogged 3-4 times a season

That Knights game …...........cost us Top 8

If you could somehow put together a side that never lost against bottom eight sides and had our record against the top eight it still wouldn't be a recipe for success. In fact we only dropped three games against the bottom eight in 2016 - win them all and we'd still only have come eighth (maybe seventh, if we'd overturned a 166 f/a gap to the Bulldogs). That would have left us needing to play four consecutive opponents away from home and having quite significant off days: the Broncos in Brisbane, Cowboys in Townsville, Sharks in Sydney and then the Storm in the grand final.

Ok, this is all totally hypothetical. But there is a point: is this club's ambition to scrape into the finals and extend the season by a week or maybe two, or is it to build a genuine contender? If it's the latter (and it damn well should be) they have to find a way to live with, and occasionally beat, good teams even when those teams aren't wildly off their game or denuded by Origin/injury.

Your not going to get an argument from me 2041

But a start would of been to at least make the 8 in 2016 for starters

You can't win a premiership if you don't

We're not going to beat the top teams with the cap situation that was inherited. I'm amazed that people expect top 8 results while taylor is running on half a tank of petrol!

You just need to look at our losses vs signings over the last 3 years to know how bad it was.

The true test will be next year when everything is all cleared up. I hate thinking this is a nothing year. But baring some miracle, we won't do better than top 8.

If we dont play finals this year and do well then we wont attract quality to the club and will be forced to spend that whole cap on juniors and existing talent thus starting the cycle again.

I reckon that's a myth. Offer players good money and they'll sign, simple as that. Tuivasa-Scheck didn't go to the Warriors because of their winning culture.

At the end of the season 2016 I tended to agree with you, our roster just had to many average NRL players and did not have the right mix to it. Than on reflection during a long off season I am starting to think that this team with a little bit of a run from the injury god could make it into the eight and could be the a surprise package. Most games last years they showed improvement from the following season and if they can improve at the same rate in 2017 they should do alright.

Although let me tell you the number one trap when you are looking at your teams chances for the next season is making comparisons with the season before or using the season before as a form barometer. How many years have we finished full of running only to start the next year like 12 year old maidens at the Gosford races

I've asked this question a couple of times and no one has really answered it.
A lot think that we are in for a windfall in 2018.
It's not as if we are going to be given a bigger monetary grant than the other clubs.
Well all get the same Grant.
And we will (Officialy) operate under the same Salary Cap as those top teams.
There's no fairy about to level out the playing field of Cap Rorts.
At least nothing yet has been announced about Caps, TPA's, etc. that would make us think that it will be fairer
There will be no added incentive for players to come here, rather than go to the top clubs.
Players will get most of the extra money that will be thrown around.
But I can't see any difference from now.
There will be no advantage for the also rans, as players can still get that money from the top clubs.
Yes there's a lot of players available for 2018, but unless a lot changes between now and then, most of the quality will go to the top clubs, as usual.
I'd like to see it even up the teams , even a bit.
I just can't see how it will make a scrap of difference, except players payments will escalate ( especially the top ones)
