Tigers set to shut doors to Leichhardt

I think a one….ONE match membership just cheapens the whole thing.

They do this crap all the time, offer memberships at semis time...chasing the dollar and forgetting the loyal fan

This stinks

Probably not to mention all the free passes the players and officials get to give to family or friends.

Yeah I agree. That is very expensive and ok sounds exclusive. Whilst they are trying to capitalise on the Sharks game as there are lot of ex Tigers playing and Carney also in the mix, just wait and see what happens if towards the end of the season and hypothetically we are out of semi's contention, the interest and crowds will disappear.

Will they then insist on the $65 package or will they open it up to the average punter to get in at $25 or what ever the price maybe.

All for being a member as we were when in Sydney and will be when we get back, but the one game pass I am not a fan of.

I'd pay $65 but certainly not to attend a game at Leichhardt. SFS maybe; Leichhardt no. By the way, I'm already a member so will be attending anyway

LATEST NEWS ON TICKETS FOR SHARKS CLASH
21/02/2012 4:41:54 PM

Wests Tigers wish to advise the latest news on tickets for the round one blockbuster against Cronulla Sharks at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, March 4.

The release of the $65 Wests Tigers Season Opener Membership has led to a spike in Wests Tigers Memberships, with reserved seating at Leichhardt Oval now sold exclusively to Members.

Becoming a Wests Tigers member is the best way to secure your ticket to all Wests Tigers home games.

Wests Tigers CEO Stephen Humphreys said the demand had been very strong since the Season Opener Membership was launched.

“Memberships are selling strongly on the back of high interest and expectation for our 2012 season,”Humphreys said.

“We anticipate releasing a limited number of General Admission tickets for the round one clash at Leichhardt Oval to the public on Thursday.

**“A priority purchase period will be provided to Wests Tigers and Sharks Members before tickets go on sale to the public.”\
\
The plan for round one ticket release is as follows:
-Thursday, 9am: Pre-purchase window for Wests Tigers and Cronulla Sharks Members.
- Thursday, 12 noon: Remaining tickets on sale to the general public.**

Supporters are encouraged to follow weststigers.com.au, Wests Tigers Twitter (@wests_tigers) and Wests Tigers Facebook ([www.facebook.com/weststigers.com.au](http://www.facebook.com/weststigers.com.au)) in the next 24 hours for more information.

Cronulla supporters should follow their official website to keep up to date on information.

Wests Tigers Members will receive an email later this afternoon with information on how to access the priority purchase period window.

Good that the priority period is being announced for members. Best way moving forward

While I think it's great to have a sell-out game at the best league venue in Sydney, I do not agree with making games at Leichardt or any venue for that matter members only games. It smells of elitism, exclusivity and snobbery - elements which any true Magpie or Tigers fan from the traditional bases would be offended by.

Besides that, who are you going to give to on the day without having an Eagles, Roosters or for that matter a poor, longt-suffering Sharkies fan near you? Having opposition fans at a game is an integral part of league. We are not effete Manchester, Liverpool, or for that matter rugby fans.

What's "snobbish" about giving your members priority? If it was "corporate clients only" that would be one thing, but surely our members are by definition our biggest fans? If you've got 30,000 of demand for 20,000 tickets how do you decide which 10,000 miss out?

Also, don't forget every Sharks fan there = one Tigers fan who wanted to go but couldn't get in. Balls to 'em I say.

How would you feel if another club decided they would not sell tickets to the opposing team? I would be very upset and I feel this is exactly the same way you would feel. It sets a very concerning precedent.

I also feel for those (including myself) that can't afford $65 per ticket if you wish to take the family. If you are in the fortunate position to do that good on you but I know a lot of people who aren't.

I think it's fantastic to have this much hype and debate, it's only game one. Well done Tigers and well done Stephen Humphries.

To clear this up, if for season 2012, you already have wests-tigers stripes membership,
you still have to pay $65 to get in. :crazy
( asking on behalf of elderly parents who have stripes membership)

Humpty has made a statement that non-Ticketed and Sharks members will get a grab at the tickets before the general public….
End of story!!

To my understanding this $65 membership gets u a member kit plus general entry to the round 1 clash. The number of $65 kits sold the less chance of getting any regular sales.

One sneaky way of WT boosting membership numbers (also to win the battle of the west membership drive)

thanks for that Ink, Old Maggie hopefully now will attend.

So the bottom line is:
- if you're a ticketed member you'll get in.
- if you're not a ticketed member you can buy a full membership or a one-game membership and you'll get in.
- if you're a non-ticketed member and don't want to buy either a ticketed or one-game membership you'll get in provided you make the effort to be online (or get someone else to do it) during the pre-sale window.
- if you're not any kind of member and don't want to buy any kind you'll still probably get in provided you get on to buying a ticket pretty quickly after the pre-sale window.

Wasnt always that clear though, was it?
Things have changed as theyve realized the upset the initial plan would cause

Humphreys said the $65 membership package was the only way fans could guarantee tickets to the match.

Sounds a bit silly now, doesnt he?>

Yeah maybe a bit, but he's not lying either. It would have been interesting to see what happened if there had suddenly been 40,000 people trying to buy one-game memberships! "Well you can't have the Sunday game at Leichhardt but we've got a lovely Monday night v Penrith at Campbelltown going…"

Anyway if you read the original article Humphreys never says there would be no public sale - in fact it looks like the Herald, and then us lot, have got a bit over-excited about some general comments about how popular Leichhardt Sunday games are:

"We have had our biggest day of membership sales today. 'We will see how they go over the next few days and if they are not all gone we will put some tickets on public sale later in the week but at this stage the response has been terrific."

"I do think we are approaching that day when Leichhardt games are members only, which would be great for Wests Tigers but not so good for opposing fans,'' he said.

"We have sold out Leichhardt a few times over the last two or three years so I am really hopeful that people get that message that to avoid disappointment and guarantee their ticket membership is the way to go."

''At some point I would expect that we would have members-only fixtures at all our Leichhardt and Campbelltown games. Whether this one does or not … we are still building towards that but I think that day will certainly come as our membership grows. This game will certainly go close, at least."
