Tigers sign Corey Brown for two years

We need Uncle Harry to splash a bit of his dosh on us so we can get things up to standard, does anyone know if he contributes to the club financially or just as a major sponsor? Andrew Forrest (a mining magnate over here in West Oz) stated recently that he and his wife are hoping to donate half of their billion dollar fortune to worthy causes around the world. Maybe Mayer should fire him off an email and state our case!

Mate I agree with most of your posts, especially the ones about how we ought to be in in the market to purchase top tier players - everyone has the same salary cap so why aren't we ever going for top tier players like other clubs? Damn right!

But I don't get this post. **(1) Facilities are important but probably aren't a determining factor for a player if he is offered the right $ figure to come here.** (2) Forrest giving money to charity has little do to with Harry splashing the cash on the Tigers. Harry gives an absolutely huge amount of money away to charities. Are we a charity?

So, my take on your point would be that if I was a millionaire and a sponsor of the club I loved, then contributing in some way to bring my favourite player over might be a proposition I couldn't resist. An example is perhaps how we could have gone all out on trying to sign Slater when he was taking offers (IF there was ever a chance, and that is a big IF). Harry said he loved Slate, thus the club should've capitalised on his emotional attachment and approached them both. Perhaps we should be speaking to major donors/sponsors, like Harry, find out the players they love or would want here and maybe they might sweeten the deal (like the Roosters _may_ do with Uncle Nick's favourite players - that is pure speculation  ). This would also make their sponsorship more lucrative, i.e. their corporate logo would be flying around everywhere!

We are talking about top shelf players here.

Why would they choose a club with outdated science, and poor gym facilities - not to mention 3 home grounds spanning Sydney, rookie coach, bickering board… when theres better on offer.

Your "the right $ figure" = overs for us.

eg: Blair.

We will still have $1mill for 2015\. All well and good wanting to sign a half and big forwards a week before preseason, but have a look at the players off contract, noone worth it. Brown is signed as a centre.

Whether he is a centre /winger isn't the issue

Another fringe signing , players are staying away because they don't want to come within 100 miles of the crap with the board , the money issues and a side that finished 15th and were only saved by a woeful Parra side from a wooden spoon

The team that came 15th in 2012 won the comp the following season. No we won't do that but we will improve.

We have the best young talent in the NRL, other clubs are sniffing around our squad big time. In 2-3 years we will be up there with the very best sides in the NRL.

Signing a young centre/winger on what would be a minor contract is worth a punt. It may or may not pay off but even if it doesn't we have plenty of young talent in the outside backs.

Spot on you have hit it right on the button. I can't believe (and definitely disagree with ) what I am reading from some of the other posters on this subject.

We can only hope this guy isn't like James Grant….waisted in the lower grades and never given a chance in the top grade. We now have an abundance of wingers and centres at the club....so it might be hard for this guy to make it: Korobiete, Richards, Utai, Nofoaluma, Taqele, Simona, Lawrence, and Lulia. Corey Brown can play winger or centres and can goal kick as well. Let's just hope the team doesn't have too many injuries and is competitive this season, iv'e heard that 2 players could be already out for up to six months..Nathan Brown and Nofoaluma..??

Credit to Brown for jumping ship and trying his hand at making it in League. Looks to have really good pace and footwork. Adjusting to the finer points of positional play and defence will be the the key. Interested to see how he goes for WT in NSW Cup. Hope he develops as well as he hopes to.

How anyone can critisise this signing is beyond me. Its a NSW cup signing!

How many NSW Cup games have you all seen? How many of you know where the Tigers finished on the NSW cup ladder last season?

This thread should be in the NSW cup forum. Then it would get the attention a signing like this deserves - very little. If the kid hadn't overcome an illness (and credit to him for doing so!) there wouldn't even have been a media release and we would all be none the wiser until next season starts in all grades.

I disagree with this signing, why couldnt we use the money on someone like Geoff Daniella, Anthony Don, Sami Sauiluma or Sosaia Feki?

You have got to be kidding mate.

Geoff Daniela was a good player for us.Anthony Don while not what we need is still a good first grader with plenty of pace.Sauiluma or feki.Meh.If we are going to sign Corey Brown I would prefer we sign Jim Cassidy and Glen Boss.

Must be something in him…
Signed for 2 years!!

On another note, Ressies is shaping up nicely for next year!!

Agree with the fact that the facilities and board aren't an ideal situation.

However, remember that there are a very limited amount of top-shelf players, so they invariably go for "overs". Yes, Blair was a risk that didn't pay off and so we tend to look back at that deal and know that we got ripped-off …... but ce la vie. We have to take learnings from bad business decisions. Let's not make one unfortunate hindsight decision affect all of our future actions in the player market.

Is not reserve grade the side we should turn to turn to for back up players when there are injuries (remember last season) in first grade? If you have not seasoned reserve grade players you are a high risk to be no chance in NRL as we found out last season. U20's are too young to push into first grade and this fact will be highlighted next year when the State cup, not the U20's, will be the curtain raiser to first grade.

Corey Brown isn't a seasoned NRL player and the chances he will get a call up to NRL in 2014 would be highly doubtful

Hopefully the next winger to get a call up to NRL will be Mr T if anyone needs to be called up

If we are any chance of making the Top 8 we will need injury free season , so I'm hoping we can keep the call ups from NSW Cup to an absolute minimum

Even Mr T might be well down the pecking order after the 1st grade outside back that get left out (koro?) and possibly Leuila.

As much as it would be great to have a monster like Naiyavoro? on the wing, just got this feeling that he doesn't have the mongrel to make it in the top grade. Dunno why, but watching the televised NSW Cup games he played in this season it just seems like everything is done half-paced with the big fella (Granted he did score 4 tries in one of those matches but hardly had to run a combined total of 30 yards to score them, it was a smash-up that day).

Would love to be proved wrong and we end up with another Taniela on our hands. This Brown kid is a decent enough signing, will never know what he is capable of if he is never given the chance, it is not like we paid top dollar for him anyway. Good luck to the kid.

He said he wants to play center, interesting considering it seems he played wing in Union. He is ambitious if anything (wanting to start in round 1) but given our lack of depth at center, and that Simona will likely miss the first few rounds, who know he might be a find.

didnt watch the cook islands game but the post match wrap up said leulia's opposing centre got the better of him in this game.

Defensively he played very well Prmz but he is slow

He reminds me very much of Adrian Vowles the ex Cowboys and Qld centre / lock (You might be a bit young to remember him )

Extremely reliable in defence , but offers little in attack

Good squad player then? (that's more-or-less the Vowles mould.)

He went OK v the Welsh

How that would translate to the NRL might be a different story
