Tigers sign Corey Brown for two years

why do people worry about a tier 2 signings, this young bloke is on a part time contract to play reserve grade.
At least this bloke has a potential upside, and may be useful in the future, if not he plays reserve grade or something

Best way i can think to answer your question…...its the lack of ability to see grey. When you look at black and white u often miss the point thats lying in grey

Manly are an exceptional team/club….they always make the semis - always.
Comparing to one of the best is one way to push an argument....no matter how unbalanced it is
But I do agree to an extent....our focus on junior development over recruitment of top liners is the slow hard way....**its all you can do when theres little money**

We may be struggling financially off the field but we are still allowed to spend as much as any other club on players, it just seems that more often than not we spend it on the wrong players.

Manly recruit no-names too…as do they all

Yes but Manly have a hell of a lot to work with already and their back row and five eight are handy

…and thats what we are working towards.

People expect miracle fixes...theres no quick way to success....it will take time, years

And I don't expect miracles overnight Ink , look at the comment on my signature

**But the players we have bought for 2014 won't improve the squad from 2013**
I heard someone say that the NRL comp improves 5% every season

We finished 15th out of 16 and we have brought one player who is guaranteed a spot in squad from 2013

Our signings for 2014 should of been made in 2012

The only reason we will improve in 2014 will be because the juniors will get better , it will have nothing to do with recruiting guys that will compliment our outstanding junior talent

That is a big call to make at this point in time. For all we know the 5 or 6 "major" signings we have made for 2014 might just be our best players next season (just like what happened at Manly with Horo and Lawrence). Time will tell.

The most important on-field trait that we need to acquire is a never-quit attitude at all times, too often we turn up our toes when we are getting beaten. If our new blokes can contribute to us developing this attitude then we have done well by signing them. The flashy, overpaid type of players in the NRL are never gonna be any good for us, we need blokes that will hopefully play their hardest in every game, not just when we are winning.

Its nothing new, our recruitment since day dot 90% of the time has been garbage, our footy generally from day dot has been average as well…..there is no culture at the 'club'...I really dont know if it is a club...theres a helluva lot missing, facilities, staff, players, attitude, culture....these threads have been around for years...I see success here as fleeting and mediocrity consistent.
Lets not forget a year ago our coach of a decade was sacked, less than a year ago our CEO deserted the sinking ship after getting the gym new curtains...all while the board farted around and benji threw balls to row D....we are STILL paying for mistakes made seasons ago.
It can all fall apart very quick, even quick when its already broken....takes a LOT longer to put it all back together again

Potter is an experienced coach at building teams up from nothing. whether he is the coach to take us to a premiership remains to be seen. And combined with Mayer I believe we will become a proper and professional club by 2015-16.

A lot of people seem to think that Mayer will be the club's saviour. Was he punted from Manly or did he quit? I suppose after having endured Humpty for plenty of years anybody is a step in the right direction.

…or that theyre the only ones left the better players see what we cannot spend the extra $$$$ we dont have....on facitlites, sports science, equipment etc and bypass us

We need Uncle Harry to splash a bit of his dosh on us so we can get things up to standard, does anyone know if he contributes to the club financially or just as a major sponsor? Andrew Forrest (a mining magnate over here in West Oz) stated recently that he and his wife are hoping to donate half of their billion dollar fortune to worthy causes around the world. Maybe Mayer should fire him off an email and state our case!

not sure if the club is so poor they qualify for charity aid.

Mate I agree with most of your posts, especially the ones about how we ought to be in in the market to purchase top tier players - everyone has the same salary cap so why aren't we ever going for top tier players like other clubs? Damn right!

But I don't get this post. (1) Facilities are important but probably aren't a determining factor for a player if he is offered the right $ figure to come here. (2) Forrest giving money to charity has little do to with Harry splashing the cash on the Tigers. Harry gives an absolutely huge amount of money away to charities. Are we a charity?

So, my take on your point would be that if I was a millionaire and a sponsor of the club I loved, then contributing in some way to bring my favourite player over might be a proposition I couldn't resist. An example is perhaps how we could have gone all out on trying to sign Slater when he was taking offers (IF there was ever a chance, and that is a big IF). Harry said he loved Slate, thus the club should've capitalised on his emotional attachment and approached them both. Perhaps we should be speaking to major donors/sponsors, like Harry, find out the players they love or would want here and maybe they might sweeten the deal (like the Roosters _may_ do with Uncle Nick's favourite players - that is pure speculation  ). This would also make their sponsorship more lucrative, i.e. their corporate logo would be flying around everywhere!

I disagree with this signing, why couldnt we use the money on someone like Geoff Daniella, Anthony Don, Sami Sauiluma or Sosaia Feki?

How about everybody associated with the club - players, officials and supporters, working together a bit harder to move the club in the right direction?

The whole post was made in jest TBH (wasn't seriously believing that we qualify for charity handouts  ).
The statement in regards to Trigaboff was just to ask if puts money into the club (like Russ does with Souths) to help improve facilities etc or whether his attachment to the club is purely for sponsorship purposes? Obviously he isn't a part-owner of the club like Crowe with Souths but if he is a billionaire then a few stray million thrown the clubs way would be greatly appreciated of course! Pretty sure there are wealthy people around the world that do this to help out the sports franchises that they support as a fan.

:bash hopefully Potter knows what he's doing. I dont know anything about this guy. What happened about Duggan did they signed him or not. What's with crapy Afl jumpers being advertised on this site.

We will still have $1mill for 2015\. All well and good wanting to sign a half and big forwards a week before preseason, but have a look at the players off contract, noone worth it. Brown is signed as a centre.

_Posted using RoarFEED 2013_

Whether he is a centre /winger isn't the issue

Another fringe signing , players are staying away because they don't want to come within 100 miles of the crap with the board , the money issues and a side that finished 15th and were only saved by a woeful Parra side from a wooden spoon

The team that came 15th in 2012 won the comp the following season. No we won't do that but we will improve.

We have the best young talent in the NRL, other clubs are sniffing around our squad big time. In 2-3 years we will be up there with the very best sides in the NRL.

Signing a young centre/winger on what would be a minor contract is worth a punt. It may or may not pay off but even if it doesn't we have plenty of young talent in the outside backs.
